Liam Gallagher: 'Arctic Monkeys Make Me Feel Awkward' Liam Gallagher says that the Arctic Monkeys make him feel “awkward.” Although the 38-year-old things they’re a decent band, he’s put off by how young the teenagers are. After a montage of famous moments in Canadiens history -- somehow, they all involve winning the Stanley Cup -- the Canadiens enter to a loop from Coldplay's "Fix You," the instrumental part where the guitars and then the drums come in (we'd post the right sound clip but for copyright issues; suffice to say, it's the portion of the song from 2:35 to 3:30 on the album track). It's not the Vancouver Canucks coming onto the ice to the intro from "Where the Streets Have No Name," but it's a pretty cool moment. The song has a pretty majestic and emotional feel, which is fitting for the scene. One man's opinion: At the risk of turning today's blog entries into nothing but arena-environment-bashing, it beats the stuffing out of "Rock You Like a Hurricane" for the x-millionth time... (Not to offer criticism without a solution, here are couple options to consider in the future: "Superhero" by Jane's Addiction, at the risk of stealing from the "Entourage" opening credits; "Hyper Enough" by Superchunk, which opens with a wall of sound and never lets up and has the added benefit of locality; or U2's "City of Blinding Lights," which would bring the same crescendo of emotion as "Fix You" if it started 50 seconds before the starting goalie hit the ice so the guitars would come in at the same time as the players. Just thinking out loud here.) Still, the RBC Center wins the musical battle on another front: In Montreal, fans sing along to a French-language commercial for arena sponsor Bell that caresses the ears the way a dentist's drill soothes an open nerve. Having finally received the full list of North American tour dates, anticipating tonight's perfomance of Jonny & Thom at London's Koko... bad news shortly followed. Pitchfork quotes from a press release, saying: "There are no plans for a Radiohead album release any time in 2006". I suppose we'll have to bootleg our own the coming months. source: atease :/

Radiohead graphic artist (and unofficial sixth member?) Stanley Donwood will debut his first solo exhibition this month in London. The month-long show will kick off May 19 at the Lazarides Gallery and will feature Donwood’s London Views collection. The show features 13 original prints that offer "an apocalyptic vision of modern day London, viewed in panorama from the Thames and showing iconic structures including Big Ben, Canary Wharf and the dome of St Paul's." The artist has worked with longtime pal Thom Yorke and the gang since he designed the artwork for 1994’s The Bends. Donwood’s art was honored when Amnesiac won a Grammy for Best Recording Package in 2001. Three quarters of the UK population would support a new law aimed at combating climate change, according to a survey by Friends of the Earth. Some 1,233 people were asked if they would back a law requiring annual reductions in UK CO2 emissions. While 75% said they would, 5% said they would not, with 19% of respondents saying they did not know. The government recently revealed the UK is unlikely to meet its target of reducing CO2 emissions by 20% by 2010. The Climate Change Programme review projects that new and existing policies will deliver a cut of 15-18% by the end of the decade - the government's goal is 20%. Environment Secretary Margaret Beckett said the government was not giving up on meeting the target, but said more had to be done to reach it. To highlight the issue, some of the UK's top musicians will be performing at 'The Big Ask Live' - a bank holiday concert in London. Emissions reduction The line up includes Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead and Gruff Rhys, lead singer of the Super Furry Animals. Tony Juniper, Friends of the Earth Director, said: "Like Thom Yorke and the other artists playing The Big Ask Live, the vast majority of people want to see the government take action to tackle climate change. "This means a new climate change law that would require the government to make annual reductions in the UK's carbon emissions."
