  1. Hmmm a lot of people (6 or 7 people) didn't read the rules and had 2 versions of Life in Technicolor & Lost in their lists. Others specified which version. As stated I treated Lost?, Lost!, Lost and LIT 1+2 all are considered the same song and I threw out any dupes from the same poster (the lower ranked one). So if someone had LIT2 at #7 and LIT1 #15 in their list then i simply recorded it as LIT at #7 and one vote. Best I can do.
  2. Sorry but I never sent that pm (i received it as well). I replied back to it stating that the date given was incorrect. If people look at my last posts (in my statistics) they'll see that I never actually ever gave an end date and in fact it was supposed to end in mid January ( I think my post was simply "I'll extend this another week") but I thought I'd extend it to the last Saturday of this month to fit as many votes as possible as Saturday is the only day I have where I can literally spend hours cramming the data. Again I'm sorry if there was miscommunication and I probably should have pm'd the mods who quoted the 1/31 deadline earlier in the month (i sent them a pm thursday?) so they could have corrected it sooner but again I really had no control of what they put on the homepage or in that recent pm. I tried to extend it at close to that as possible. I certainly appreciate the official backing this thread has been given and I think we'll still have a representative list for the board.
  3. tooooooooooooo late (plus you needed 25 minimum as the rules stated) ;) Polling is CLOSED.
  4. I hate to be a nag, but some people aren't following Chris's Nuts rules. If you are one of the offenders, you may want to adjust your list accordingly so it truly reflects your rankings... Sadly a little too late. As stated I'll simply throw out any alt versions and stick with the single title. biggest offender (luckily only a few) have been those who did not rank their songs. As stated that was a requirement and those could not take the time to include a number rank by their songs OR who put "these aren't in any order though" did not make it to my spreadsheet. A tough break but we have plenty of data to work with and I was specific with my rules. I will say too its sad that some people chose to make their very first post in this thread instead of being regular contributers but newbs are certainly allowed to voice their opinion and their votes will be counted. I certainly hope people didn't create new usernames to boost their votes but I highly doubt that (and I can't check for that anyway). A couple hours in and almost done grabbing data.
  5. nice, i'll have to link these in the results thread for handy reference.
  6. ok I'm starting to compile these into a spreadsheet. I'm starting at page 1 and working my way back. As stated a few pages back YESTERDAY was the official last day as today is RESULTS day. When I have all of these in my spreadsheet the polling will be closed.
  7. if that's the latin tour this year i ommited that as its 2010 and a new decade. It was bad enough i entitled a decade of Coldplay and have their early years (1997-99) but that was still needed and only a small part of the list. I will gladly plug in holes that remain up to Dec 2009 but no planning on updating it for this new decade as that would be an ongoing thread and with nearly 300 lists on RYM that's more than i can commit. But thx all
  8. Thanks to those who checked this out!
  9. I will actually need results by the end of the day 1/29. I'm sorry there was some confusion but Saturday 1/30 is when i will be compiling the results. There may be some hurt feelings if people wait until Sunday. Thanks everyone. CRAZY turnout!
  10. not too long. 2 slow saturdays at work (w/internet access) and myabe 1 day off. A lot of this info I had on my fansite already and i just added it there.
  11. http://rateyourmusic.com/list/TheScientist/a_decade_of_coldplay/ Well I put one big timeline for Coldplay's career. A discography of their releases, a gigography of their shows, youtube clips and links to their videos, and personal observations and a few clips to the shows i saw them at in Denver. Its one of nearly 300 lists I have on RYM (rate your music) but probably one of the most personal ones I've put out. While there's plenty of silent fans there I thought it would be best to (briefly) shout of my love for the band and what they've been able to do this decade. If you feel i missed any important moments or factoids that others should know let me know and I'll possibly add to it. If there's any coldplayers on RYM you can always send me a shout of support there and heart it. As always we might not have the "coolest" band out there (as we're constantly reminded) but i think there's more than enough fans to counterbalance the haters. ;)
  12. jeeez I'm gonna have a lotta data to crunch at the end of the month. Ah well i asked for it. :)
  13. i sure will, that way its a 2010 results list! I will keep this open for another week at least as we're still getting plenty of entries still. thanks everyone!
  14. wow. glad this is getting so many partipants! appreciate all the input and i think a few more weeks and I'll definitelt have enough to start gathering totals and results.

  16. It's another year gone and opinions may have changed. Here's the results of what was polled in mid 2008. Graphical http://rateyourmusic.com/list/TheScientist/top_50_coldplay_songs_by_coldplay_fans Forum Thread http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49518&page=3 This was of course before the Prospekt's March EP and people have also had enough time to change their opinions on their prior songs, perhaps even drastically. So here's the rules (same as before): 1. Collaborations are ok, as long as the entire band was in on it (aka no Homecoming, All things come to, etc...) 2. Covers are allowed 3. Different versions of songs do not count (No Lost? Lost+ or Don't Panic Blue room edition etc...) This does mean that you count Life in Technicolor (both version 1+2) as one song. I know that might bug some but that's so people don't split votes between the 2 versions and both place poorly. If you like one over the other rank THAT version accordingly in your list. So if you put version 1 or 2 I'm throwing out the # indicator.... 4. Remixes do not count. 5. The songs must be ranked in order. No exceptions. 6. Unreleased songs (but performed live) are ok. 7. You can do a minimum of 25 songs and a maximum of 50 songs in your list. So 25-50 songs on lists are ok. 8. If you want to edit your list later that's fine. Just do not reply post your edits into a new post. Use your original post. If you have a list in the old list thread that was ranked just re-post it in here (search with your username and a songtitle for quick results). If you had a loose list before that needs to be ranked please do so and put it in here. If you are starting from scratch feel free to use any of the above list links and then shuffle them around to make them your own. I'll leave this open for weeks and hope to get at least the 40+ lists the original thread got. As you'll see in my sig I've helped arrange and do top lists for everyone from Radiohead, to the Beatles and Zep, to whole genres of music, so Coldplay deserve the official list treatment. I'll likely stop the polling by the end of January so please get your lists together. If you did this back in 2008 then you might want to start with your old list from the original thread and make changes. http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48995 Hope people take part and I'll pop in occasionally if people have questions. Again, the rules are the rules, and they worked well last time. ********This polling is now closed (as of Sat 1/30). Please see the last couple of posts if there's confusion about the end date******** Please see the results thread for when results are ready: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3934536 __________________
  17. What really sucks is how how NME never put a single album on their Top 100 Albums Decade list and yet put them on covers, weekly articles, concert reviews, etc all DECADE LONG. So if NME has spent all decade propping them up what's with the revisionary list? Rather crap i must say.
  18. I know how you feel. I have hundred's of live recordings from the band that I simply don't listen to anymore sadly and they seem to take up room. At least your stuff you can easily put on Ebay and make someone happy. That is if people are actually buying anything collectible between albums and in this economy.... :(
  19. Well while I loved Hot Fuss its important for any band not to simply repeat themselves on a second album. Problem with Sam's Town is they wanted to channel Springsteen (lyrical deepness and breakneck sincerity with cheesy songs. It came off as ridiculous and amateurish and just a bad move for this band in particular. There are a good 4 songs on that album but as far as I'm concerned its incredibly spotty. Now that the band is taking itself less seriously maybe I'll like the third album more. But from what I've heard their quality control is the same and its still a spotty listen. Human I liked until the bizarre chorus and Spaceman is good. I'll have to give the album a full listen soon.

  21. agreed. now its up to the lawyers.
  22. Well my quick take (36 years old in case it suddenly becomes important). * Satriani is a good guitarist and one of the best of the guitar rock instrumental genre (Steve Vai wasn't bad in the day too) * There are similarities in parts to Joe's song. * That of course does not show intent. * Part of the court case will likely hinge on whether Joe can prove that Coldplay a British band actually heard this American artist's song which is only 5 years old and likely never played on a radio station. Coldplay do give credit on who they are influenced by on songs and I have no doubt that Joe was not on their Ipod play list nor ever purchased. * Did Chris write the initial meldoy or did Jonny? I could see if Jonny did he might have checked out Joe's work at some point(as a fellow guitarist). If it was Chris then that really casts doubt. * Whether Joe wins or loses Chris might finally get the kick he needs to stop namechecking his inspirations and have the band rest more on their own laurels. While I'm sure many bands write songs by being influenced by other bands, Coldplay have been more transparent to this process then many artists. You can't be the next U2 if you constantly talk about U2 and Radiohead and Bono dosen't spend all day talking about their inspirations (although they probably have many) or who they want to be when they grow up. :( * Don't shoot, I'm with the band.
  23. yeah it was an older crowd (we were the only ones that could afford it!!) so not as many teens and young adults as you'd maybe expect. I remember being one of the few 30+ aged people at DCFC so it is interesting that Coldplay fans seem to be mostly maturing (even as a lot of them are still newer fans). I'll admit to not rocking out too much, just a little yelling, some head nodding. It's hard to rock out when its all dedicated seating. When they played at the Filmore you could move around due to the general admission seating and the flat floor. If you rock out in the stands you can fall forward on your face and on a lot of people. Besides the jumbotron was closer then the band itself. It's hard to get super enthusiastic when you're paying $100 to watch live tv. Seriously though I saw an enthusiastic crowd, maybe not the younger type you'd see waiting for hours by the back exit after the show for an autographb (like in the good old days) but the kind who were happy of the show they were getting, yelling, and hands up any time the lightd came up. I'm sure the people who could afford the main floor did it less from enthusiasm and more from being able to afford it. When it was a matter of waiting 3 hours in line for the good seats rather then shelling out a $150 a ticket you got a more hardcore fan in front and center. Now you generally get the yuppies there instead these days. But I digress.....
  24. Yeah the drums were the highlight of show. Not only were they just mic'ed well for the band (and the opening acts) but Will just hammered them relentlessly and did a great job on backing vocals. The secret weapon.
  25. same old setlist Life In Technicolor Violet Hill Clocks In My Place Speed Of Sound Cemeteries Of London Chinese Sleep Chant 42 Fix You Strawberry Swing God Put A Smile Upon Your Face (techno version) :( Talk (techno remix) The Hardest Part Postcards From Far Away (piano instrumental) Viva La Vida Lost! The Scientist (acoustic) Death Will Never Conquer (acoustic - Will singing) Viva La Vida (remix interlude) First Encore Politik Lovers In Japan Death And All His Friends Second Encore Yellow The Escapist (outro) Good show. Chris was in high spirits, all over the place, and full of energy. When they came through the Pepsi center during the X+Y tour it felt like we were just another stop but last night they gave a bit more effort. Chris talked a bit during slow bits and he did indeed rip his pants (never noticed during the show), the video screen cameras focused in on the black duct tape wrapped around it during Yellow encore and his quick talk about it (upper leg i think). Funny how some songs worked better then others now. The Hardest Part of course really works better acoustically and songs like Speed Of Sound, Cemeteries Of London, Chinese Sleep Chant, and Lovers In Japan were highlights. Still not happy about all backing tapes and having the tinges of doubt on certain songs that its Jonny doing all the guitar sounds but it was a better show than I was fearing. It's still a much different experience then being in front rows during the AROBTTH so its hard to compare the two. But it was a good show and all the fans appeared quite satisfied.
