I just wanna say...being a punk myself in the 70's...that punk serveda purpose and was a reaction to all the prog rock and hippy-shit that had dominated the music scene for too long! Listen to some proper old stuff..not just the Pistols but The Clash, Undertones, U.K Subs, Siouxsie and the Banshee's, The Ramones, Xray-specs, Crass...to name but a few...oh and The Damned...FAB!

Nah..now she is a Doctor of Pholosophy but she used to always be in bands. She moved form folk to jazz and then became a singing teacher-then when I left home she went to Uni and got all intelligent on my arse-ended up doing a phd and now she's a freakin' acedemic!
