22-Dec-08: O2 Arena, Dublin - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos (NEW DATE)
Thankies, yes he was real nice with us, and my friend made me remind that he was the one to ask us if we wanted to take a pic, I guess we were already too happy to have spoken with him that we didn't even think about that :laugh3::laugh3: Well I think Tony's review about the show is perfect, so I will only talk about our walking from one side to the other of the tiers to get closer to c-stage. As I already said the security guy was nice enough to let us stay there when I told him we were just happy to stay where we were, that is, the end of the stairs they were running up to from the main stage. And these are some pics Other pics from Lovers in Japan, they're just too beautiful not to be posted and this is especially for the berrylovers..thanks to the videowalls  At the end of the concert we slowly proceeded to the exit, bought a blue t-shirt with butterflies and buttons. Then once outside we walked past the gates and took a look inside...and two vans were still there, of course we decided we had to wait there. Most of the people had already left when I stared again through the thin chink in the gates...and I see Jonny standing beside the van, I turn to my friend "There's Jonny!!", look back again and sat in the van were Will, Guy and I think Chris as well. Jonny gets in and the gates open, so we prepare our banners and show them while they drive past us to the center (to go to U2's Xmas party :P). And that's the end of day 2

Barcelona gig, because everything happened so fast and I didn't expect to see them that early in the year :nice:

22-Dec-08: O2 Arena, Dublin - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos (NEW DATE)
I feel like I'm invading the the threads of the last three gigs of the year :uhoh: So we spent the morning going around the center, but we already decided we wanted to be at the venue earlier than the day before, so we arrived there by 2.15pm more or less...the place was desert, no security at the gate, but the weather was lovely so it was not hard to wait outside this is the view to the Grand Canal Docks...maybe one day in the future the U2 Tower will be there on the right then a security guy came out, the same as the day before...and we went there and asked if the band had already arrived, he said yes, that they arrived at lunchtime..and I was like "as if I believed you, they never arrive so early", so we decided to wait on our bench at the other side of the street...wait...wait, till it was nearly 4.30 pm and I see four men approaching the gate, I look better and :stunned: that one with the green hat is Chris I call him, but I guess my voice was not loud enough, so my friend call him louder, he turns and stops before getting inside..we run to cross the street, I nearly got knocked down by I don't know how many cars :laugh3: :laugh3: I tought I would stay there dumb, not being able to say a word, but he's been so nice, he told us he walked to the venue from the city center because the weather was nice. He took a look at our banners, first the CoW one, so I took the chance and I stated I already knew that they were never going to play it, and he answered they tried it (but didn't tell when) but "it sounds shit" :laugh3::laugh3: I told him, well I don't want the whole song, I could go on with just a verse, and he replied they were probably trying it that day. Then he saw the other banner, the one with "Long Live Coldplay and all their roadies (especially #42)" and said he really loved it. I don't remember everything he said, it all went too fast, and he needed to get inside, I guess the last thing I asked was if he knew whether the others were already there, but he didn't. And this is the pic I took with him :nice: At this point my friend started crying, I was hyper and couldn't stop smiling, so we stayed there to see if the other three were arriving. It was getting late and some people were already arriving to get in the queues. We had to wait for our friends so we didn't move from the lucky gates, and two vans arrived, the first was a Mercedes one with black windows, we couldn't see anything inside but we showed our banners, on the second one, which was different, there was only one person, I looked better, he looked at me...and it was Phil, who read the banner and smiled and we waved each other, it was so strange  Ok need to get to sleep now, the rest is for tomorrow :nice:

21-Dec-08: O2 Arena, Dublin - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos
No happy ending for the night :disappointed: They were still partying at Lillie's when we left (around 1.15 am, that's the deadline I gave to my friend), I didn't feel like staying there with the paparazzi and I wanted to take a sleep and be ready for the day after :D

And then it's time for what has become their hymn..Viva la Vida, funfuckingtastic, the audience went completely nuts, on the floor section people were dancing everywhere, and the tiers where trembling with everyone jumping, and at the end of song Chris sat down to watch us singing (sorry for blurryness but you get what I'm talking about) Lost! as always is way better live..and I'm actually curious to see if they're playing the + version at Wembley :P Then they run up straight to the C-stage where as you may know, after playing Green Eyes and Jingle Bells, Will sang Fairytale of New York, which as I already said was amazing, I was only sad I didn't know the words, because I guess there was really no one in the venue who was not singing along. Again I have this on video but it refuses to work on my pc :bigcry: Funny thing: it was named Farewell to New York on the setlist :laugh3::laugh3::laugh3: During Viva la Vida remix people sang along the chorus till they came out again on the main stage to play a great three-songs set: Politik, which is my favourite song ever by them , Lovers in Japan, which is climbing up my Coldplay top ten list (once again all the butterflies were incredible) and Death and All His Friends and it was goodbye but not before playing The Scientist, which I'm glad they started playing again as it needs to be, full band not acoustic, and Life in Technicolor II :nice: And that's the end of the first review...when we went outside we spied inside the gates but no vans were to be seen, tough after a while one stopped outside and I saw Bash and Hoppy get inside. We headed to the city center because my friends wanted to find a place to eat something, and while some of them were inside me and another were outside because we saw some paparazzi outside Lillie's Bordello, and since every band goes there when they play in Dublin, maybe we could see Coldplay as well, but they were prolly already inside and just saw some roadies and random people entering. We also took a stroll around their hotel which one of the security guy at the O2 gave the name of to some random girls...and tried to lie to me when I asked if he had just told them the name  We saw one van arriving, again with some roadies and maybe Will, at least that's whom my friend believes to have seen..I didn't :P anyway, right on the back I saw this sign, and I needed to take a pic  and this is the lovely Grafton Street with Xmas decorations :nice:

21-Dec-08: O2 Arena, Dublin - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos
Yess I've slept a lot these past two days, the trip was great but a bit tiring, especially going back from Belfast to Dublin in the middle of the night, getting back to flat and find out an alarm going on that no one cared to stop, I woke up in the morning and it was still on :dozey: and the presents are not over yet :D

I must say Jon's images are quite intriguing though, I mean you stay there staring at the screen as if on an acid trip..or what I always tought and acid trip would look like :laugh3: :laugh3: Ok then, Speed of Sound...magic balls in action  Then lights on and Chirs starts talking, making a challenge between Jonny and Guy and who between men and women could scream louder for each of them before playing Yellow, which I have on video but I can't seem to be able to copy it from the camera to my pc  But it was absolutely great, I'm so glad the yellow ballons are back, more than ever Well you know the setlist, it was time for Chinese Sleep Chant, 42 and Fix You (sung by the audience from beginning to end) then Strawberry Swing, which I love especially for the "it's such a perfect day verse", it just suits so well when you go to a Coldplay gig :nice: it was great that everyone startes clapping before they were hinted to do so And time for the B-stage  I must say I've never been a big fan of the new God put a smile and Talk dance versions, but I learnt to get used to it..though I would never complain should they decide to play them the classic way. Since they were so close we took out our Italian flag (which I doubt they recognised since it was a bit dark and it's not so different from the irish one :laugh3:) and , of course, the CoW banner, which Guy saw but I didn't get the meaning of his look, or it was just a sign of approvation, I'm not sure..well, I thought, at least he saw it  Chris on piano for The Hardest Part, really loving this version, it made me appreciate it more..straight to Postcards from Far Away

But I came back home only two days ago :disappointed:...I guess everyone is still partying, eating and drinking for Xmas  back on the review The High Wire came on stage short after, and must say I really enjoyed them...opposite reaction for Jon Hopkins, but I already saw him in Barcelona so I knew what to expect and warned the others about his kind of music and imagery  The stage had a strange set up, it didn't occupy the whole length of the arena, so on the two sides you could see all the instruments cases and roadies going back and forth, and I spied Miller with a light on his head like the ones used by miners :laugh3: On to the show, Jay-Z's song was played, The Blue Danube and then lights off..they came out with sparklers, a surprise for me as I hadn't followed the previous UK shows reviews since I didn't want spoilers. Life in Technicolor is perfect as usual as intro, then when Violet Hill kicked in people started standing up (I was already, I can't help it), though most of the arena was still stead, only when Chris told there was no need to stay seated everyone raised up ad were totally into it. Loving lasers during Clocks, it's always great to listen and sing along to, then In my place, which I didn't remember was so early in the setlist..not much ramp of love action tough :)

21-Dec-08: O2 Arena, Dublin - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos
Ok so let's starts with the first review. I had the flight to Dublin at 10.10 in the morning but I just put my foot inside the departure hall when I realised it had been delayed..well, that's a good start I thought, but at least there was no fog so the flight was not risking to be cancelled (which is not that uncommon). We arrived in Dublin one hour later than scheduled, welcome by the typical irish weather: grey clouds, wind and a bit of rain, not the best to wait outside the venue :laugh3: :laugh3: Anyway, we took a bus to the city center, tryig to find our flat then met with another friend who was coming with another flight from Milan, left the luggage and we were ready to head to the O2 Arena. We arrived there a bit "late", around 4.30pm, and took a look around to understand where our entrances were (I had entrance 3, she had entrance 1) and where the band could arrive. It was still raining, but it was not too cold, we didn't want to walk back to the center so we waited outside on a bench on the other side of the street, saw a few vans and cars going inside but the security told us they were already in :( At 6.30 people started to get in the queue, we waited for our other two friends to arrive and decided we were to meet somewhere inside. Organisation at the O2 was perfect :) Once inside I found where the Oxfam stall was and look who's there...Pete :nice:, I introduced myself and told him he's really famous here at coldplaying, but he was talking with a girl from Oxfam so I didn't bother him any longer and went around the venue to take a look also at the merchandise. But we were super excited to find out where our seats were, so we walked in and realised row 5 was not really the fifth row, but the first on the rail, right in front of the b-stage :D Here's some pics of the O2 outside and inside And already waiting for next year :P

Chris, Jonny and Will at U2's Christmas Party
So that's where they were heading after the second show, they didn't do a runner and saw them left all together, so I don't know why Guy was not there, maybe he was still partying and left too late and all the paparazzi already left :P

:uhoh: I so agree with you, two stupid guys ruined the entrance arriving right in front of me saying they had the seats where other people were standing, they even called some girl from the security and I was going mad, wtf, get inside before the band starts to play..then I had this stupid guy behind me who told me to sit down during Violet Hill, but there was no way I was going to stay seated, other people on the floor were standing, he could as well go **** off, he even tried to tell a security guy, who I guess told him he couldn't do anything to me, and few seconds later Chris told the audience there was no need to stay seated, take that stupid man  It seems security at the Odissey was all the same then, I tried to get closer to the b-stage, staying were the security was stopping people to get further, and I asked one of them if I could just stay there to have a better spot and she kept telling me to go back to my seat, while other people kept coming from the back, what was wrong with her I don't know, I was not screaming or doing strange things, my seat was just two rows back from where they were standing..but I managed to get decent pics and full The Hardest Part+Postcards from away :) and surprises to come after Christmas for this show too :P

22-Dec-08: O2 Arena, Dublin - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos (NEW DATE)
I think I was close to you then Tony, cause I moved from my seat while they were still playing Lost! to get closer to the C-stage and security let me stay there just feets away :wacky: Oh and where did you hear about CoW rumour? I guess someone didn't get the things right.. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I was too far away to even be able to see him :bigcry: :bigcry: But the thought of being in the same place as him  Oh and can I add one thing: Patrizio, damn you, you ruined the surprise..anyway I'll get back with the details of this show too after christmas P.S. Just one thing, I never thought I would say this but Chris in person is far better than in pictures and Phil smile is great :nice:
