  1. I'd have to really agree with your first post Chris. Pretty much how I feel.
  2. The King of Limbs-Radiohead
  3. just take a minute to listen to Christopher Hitchens and how he logically explains things. It makes sense to me [ame= ] [/ame] [ame= ] [/ame]
  4. if I had to Rank their catalog it'd be as follows: In Rainbows OK Computer Kid A The Bends B-Sides HTTT Amnesiac OK Computer B-Sides Amnesiac B-Sides The Bends The Eraser In Rainbows [Disc 2] The King of Limbs HTTT b-sides The Eraser b-sides Pablo Honey Pablo Honey B-sides
  5. I kind of believe that the US might try to put some influence in there, but I think for the most part we'll just let it be.
  6. To me at least that isn't the point. It doesn't feel like an album to me. I enjoy a lot of the songs, but to be honest if I had to rank the albums I think this one would come near last. I don't mind it being electronic. We saw that Kid A on had it's moments which was fine. But then it felt like a band making a collective effort. Now it just feels like another Thom solo effort which is why I find it most disappointing. If it was labeled as Thom Yorke it'd be fine, but I'm finding since it's under Radiohead, of course the bar will be raised, but this time I don't think they made it. At least it's good to see the band is only human.
  7. Let me put it in this way... does the album fit together and feel as an album (in terms of the songs working one after another) as much as OK Computer, Kid A, or any other album? Of course there are songs that break the streak on albums (Electioneering, Faust Arp), but for me the album just doesn't feel consistent at all throughout, except maybe with it being somewhat electronic, but then by Codex that's all over.
  8. I think you're completely wrong. Of course we love our children (if we have them), and parents and anyone we form a connection with. It's not because god is making the connection to love that person. If that's you're reasoning then you can also say that God is the reason that people hate and murder eachother... doesn't sound so loving to me. But there is scientific evidence that shows the links between apes and also humans, not just fossil but dna. I mean I read that we are more related dna wise to some sort of ape than a monkey is to that ape. Even just looking at the zoo you can see similarities in the way we look and act. The idea that evolution has given us the thought that life is not worth living makes no sense whatsoever. How can the idea that we evolved over time be a factor? You mention suicide. First of all believing in evolution has nothing to do with the persons issues. It's for much different reasons. To be honest I could argue that religion would increase the amount of suicides. I mean you had the 9/11 hijackers that killed themselves believing they'd be rewarded in a heaven. If there is such a devine place as heaven and your life is so bad in some sense you could see why someone would kill themselves because they think they'll be in a better place (not saying it's right). I could argue that if you didn't believe in God you might enjoy life more because you'd fully understand how precious it is, and how at any given moment it could all end forever. Also of course they'd take the bible out of the schools and they should. First of all religion is a private thing, and different people believe different things. Secondly the stories are ridiculous. I mean the idea that the world was created in 6 days (when we know it was billions of years over time), mankind came from adam and eve, there was a talking snake, a man could walk on water, a man could divide the sea. I mean come on... how could you think all of these things could be factually true? Maybe I should believe that humpty dumpty was a real live walking egg that just had the misfortune of falling down and breaking. For me it just doesn't, from a logical standpoint, make a lot of sense. Also another factor to bring up. Say that you are right, then how come the vatican and church is constantly changing their opinions on various issues that they once believed in. So essentially if they are speaking as God, then isn't God wrong? How can a divine power be wrong? Lastly if God was a factor then why is there so much hate in the world? It seems if you are not a specific religion you'll be punished for it. If God was to come down to Earth, do you honestly think that he would care what religion you believed in, or what your sexuality was, or how often you went to church, or any of the numerous things they want you to do? I seriously doubt it. If that's the case then many millions of people are seriously screwed. I'd feel that God would rather the world live by the Golden Rule. I think that religion and science can coexist. You can believe in what you want (which I do), but at the same time you can't discredit the overwhelming facts that are there from many years of research put into proving things to be right or wrong.
  9. I think you pretty much nailed it. I guess for me I just loved listening to the live versions, that I was so excited to hear studio versions expecting them to be amazing, so like you said it ruins it for me. I also agree with you on the album itself. I'm enjoying it more with each listen, but like you it doesn't feel like radiohead but more of a thom solo effort. When I mean by cohesiveness is how the album feels as a whole. Like honestly I feel pretty much every Radiohead album (and the Eraser) is cohesive in that the songs seem to work extremely well together and fit into a nice package that make it an album. This one on the other hand I don't feel that at all. To me there's no real consistency throughout the album which I guess to me throws it off. Yes albums like Kid A and HTTT had different sounding songs but the atmosphere, mood, and order of the songs made it to me fit together. I guess I'm just finding the album to in some sense be a collection of random songs rather than an album. And also I agree exactly with your second part.
  10. ^I agree... the more I listen to them the more I like them. The only one I don't like is Morning Mr Magpie
  11. I agree with you william, Why would you be stoned for that? I mean I really like it, but I could see how people might not at first.
  12. I think if you believe in Jesus that's fine, afterall he did have good beliefs in loving everyone around you. However the examples you bring up about a newborn baby and deciding to end your life or choose what you want to me doesn't explain there's a god. Where is the evidence? You mention it takes just as much faith to believe in evolution. I think it's the complete opposite. Evolution you can in fact see how man has progressed over time, and I mean just look at fossils or actual evidence. I mean you can even go to the zoo and see how humans and monkeys have a resemblance. When you think about it it makes sense even at a simple level. We have evolved from our parents who evolved from theirs and so on, and there have been changes overtime. Personally I believe in an afterlife or something. We are afterall energy and if energy can not be destroyed then something must happen. Also from some evidence of paranormal activity, as well as past lives and near death experiences even after a person may be brain dead gives me much more of a belief in something rather than 2,000 year old stories. I do though agree that a lot people believe in religion just for a free pass to an afterlife. It's much more comforting to believe or want to believe in something rather than dismissing it all.
  13. To me this album has Thom written all over it. I don't really hear any guitar or ambient sounds from Ed. I hear Jonny in this a little, with the guitar in GUTG and Separator, and also arrangements in Bloom and Codex. But to me they seem to be missing.
  14. See part of me just doesn't get why we put them in there in the first place. I mean wouldn't they take into consideration it MIGHT bite us in the ass in the future? Of course it's from special interests within the countries, but getting rid of one ruthless dictator and putting another one just seems like a shuffling of the deck to me.
  15. I don't even think it's that. I mean I was around for the In Rainbows release and was disappointed believe it or not then initially but for different reasons. That time it was because I was so used to the live 2006 versions, and hearing the studio versions some songs sounded a lot different which I didn't like. For me what I feel is different is that I'd have to disagree with cohesiveness. I think the album is actually incohesive. I don't seem to have any mood, colors, or emotions associated with the album. For me I feel the other albums had a common theme or relative sound throughout. This one on the other hand, does have some similar themes of sound (jazzy, natural electronic sounds), but even then I feel it's not a single unit. I still think the album is very complex in arrangement and sound which I love about it. I think the band have possibly taken arrangement to a new level (especially after listening in depth to Codex, Lotus Flower and Bloom). I guess for me in general besides Lotus Flower there are no songs that to me that really stick out. That might be the issue. All other albums had at least one or two of those unbelievable big songs (PH-Creep, The Bends-Fake Plastic Trees/Street Spirit, OK Computer-PA/Karma Police/No Surprises/Lucky, Kid A-EIIRP/HTDC/Idioteque, Amnesiac-Pyramid Song/I Might Be Wrong/You and Whose Army, HTTT-There There/2+2=5/Where I End and You Begin, IR-Pretty much the whole album). This album to me, I hate to say it, but there aren't really any serious stand out tracks that I feel I could honestly put up against those other songs. Don't get me wrong I think a lot of it is brilliant with arrangement (like GUTG, Bloom, Lotus Flower, Codex), but I guess I feel it feels different. Also I feel that Jonny and Ed's presence aren't here nearly as much as I was expecting which is another problem. It sort of feels more like a Thom solo album. I don't want people to think I hate this album or whatever. I really like it, and with each listen I am enjoying it more and more. I just feel this album is different or out of place. Anyone share similar sentiments, or am I all alone? :P edit: sorry for the excessively long post
  16. I think religious extremism is a problem just in general. I mean you have the Vatican who is covering up all these child molestation charges... it's disgusting. Any kind of extremism (whether it even be things like substance abuse, food, exercise, etc.) is not natural regardless of what it is. I feel things should be in moderation. I do think that Israel is a big problem in terms of the middle east having hatred towards them. Even so I think if hypothetically everyone decided to leave Israel, I'm sure there would still be tremendous issues because culturally we are from two different worlds. Look... I don't have anything against Muslims or whatever kind of religion. I think that you should be free to believe in whatever you want to. I have no problem with that whatsoever. But like I mentioned I feel that extremism and trying to push your beliefs (which there are no substantial facts to back up) on other people, as well as being completely ignorant is wrong.
  17. I read his post about there being a stream of music and keeping updated with the newspaper as there being more music I agree. I don't hate the album, but I still think it's some of their weaker work. I think in terms of arrangement and layering it's brilliant. Once again, it doesn't feel like an album but more of an EP... to me the album isn't fully consistent throughout with the sound or flow. As people are ranking songs I'll rank mine 1. Lotus Flower 2. Bloom 3. Codex 4. Give Up the Ghost 5. Little By Little 6. Separator 7. Feral 8. Morning Mr. Magpie The only one I can't seem to get is Morning Mr. Magpie. Still way too used to the acoustic version. This one sounds a lot like Bangers & Mash
  18. italo on atease mb posted this: http://www.creativereview.co.uk/cr-blog/2011/february/stanley-donwood-outsider-gallery :D  looks like more music on the way folks! :D
  19. I'd say it's pretty diverse for the most part. I don't mind listening to pretty much anything. Of course I'd say the few genres I like the least are Country, and some Rap/Hip-Hip or Pop from today, but even then sometimes there are a few songs I really enjoy.
  20. I have an iPod touch ...close enough
  21. If there is such thing as God, then who created it since everything comes from something before it? What was there before the Big Bang?
  22. Woot! I feel the need to post in regards to religion and conflicts. We must look at it because as we have seen, there is much turmoil even inside these countries. I mean you have the various factions of islamic groups killing each other because of them being a Sunni, or Shiite or some other form. I mean this thought is ridiculous... killing other people just because of your beliefs in an imaginary man in the sky and some made up fiction that was created to make a set of guidelines for people that ultimately lead to controlling others. I think honestly that a lot of these religions are just terrible. They were a good thing to have at the time they were created to explain what at the time was not known, but honestly these stories to any rational thinking person can simply not be true. I'm not just talking about Islam, but ALL religions. If you want to believe in something, that's completely fine I have no problem. What I do have a problem with is when those beliefs are being pushed on other people to a stance where people are hurt. Also I have a problem when it becomes pure ignorance on the persons part to not believe in something that is pretty much factually true like evolution (for example), because they believe in a book of god. I'm not an atheist, I think there is some sort of a higher power or energy and something after you die, but I feel as Christopher Hitchens puts it, that "Religion poisons"
  23. I would have to agree with you on this. I think that culturally that part of the world has been set in their own ways for such a long time that it's tough to think it's going to be different. I think that these events are a step in the right direction in that fact that maybe some of these people who have had a lot of animosity towards the US will maybe come to a better understanding to see why the idea of freedom and democracy is good, and maybe will try and sort of take some of our ideas and move forward. I mean I personally feel extremely grateful to live in this country with everything we have and wouldn't change it for anywhere else. I think regardless the biggest problem in the world is religion. Of course it's a subject on it's own that should be addressed for another time but it should be looked at and considered to the cause of a lot of the conflicts.
