  1. yeah. also i figured that we'd pick a topic well in advance so if people are unfamiliar with a topic they can research it.
  2. ok... I mean I know that a lot of people won't show up consistently, just like with the Listening Parties. But I guess we can test it out, see how it works and if it fails it fails and this thread gets lost in the numerous threads already lost

Interesting question. I think once again there's two sides to the story. I imagine that it makes us so much more dependent on other countries which can be a good and bad thing. It's good for countries trying to gain a step up in the global arena and compete. At the same time it can be trouble, for example with the US owing China so much money. They now essentially have an upperhand on the US because if they want I guess they can hold that debt over our heads. Also I think it's bad because like you said with an economic crisis such as the one we've recently experienced, you can already see how it's been bad and all countries seem to be failing together. Also with the Global Market constantly running since countries are in different timezones, it makes it even more susceptible for if things are going bad to continue to be bad. I think though it is good because at least from the more developed countries I don't see a WWIII happening on the level of attacking with weapons, and also since everyone is tied together it's sort of like everyone goes down with the ship, so I think it'll make countries think twice. But I also can see countries using their economies to cripple other countries, which might actually be worse and easier to do rather than going to war.
  4. So with all of these big topics coming ahead I thought it might be interesting to start a debate thread. Now the purpose of this would be to have a flowing debate among the various members of the forum, but rather using the forum we would use something like tinychat, which makes it easier for us to communicate instantaneously with each other (rather than waiting on posts). It's not as if these chats will take away from the threads on the forum, but they should just make the debates like I said active and fast. So this is just an idea I had. If people think it's stupid or if there's no point since we already have threads devoted to topics that's fine. I just wanted to get an idea.

I think there are a bunch of trade offs in general. I agree that I would like to believe that it brings more freedom and prosperity, however with the situation of the world and there being so many poor countries in bad conditions it makes it hard to believe this to be the case. In an ideal world it'd be great that there is equal competition across the board, but there isn't and unfortunately the poorer nations who have nothing to stand on get taken advantage of. So that's what I think is mostly negative. At the same time I think globalization is good in the sense that by trying to connect all the nations together it might be a cause for more innovation and also exchanging ideas on many fronts from it being inventions or cultural ideas or whatever. I also think that the idea of it can perhaps help to show that we as a human race are still united and it can be seen by having similar businesses, even if those are like McDonalds.
  6. ^got around to listening to that. Extremely impressive to have recorded all of that in 24 hours.
  7. what if it's the UN that invades?
  8. thanks everyone for the kind words... much appreciated! :D
  9. I do too just because i'm usually already listening to music and the radio interrupts it... not saying it's bad music though
  10. If it's the UN then yes, but if we have to do it ourselves (US), then no... too much money has been spent on Iraq & Afghanistan already
  11. since Modeselektor is brought up of course I must say I love The White Flash
  12. Thanks everyone! yeah greg that'd be cool... I wouldn't mind that.
  13. liam is an idiot
  14. I agree with you. I think that people should be allowed to marry whomever they want whereever they want. The idea of redefining marriage is completely BS to me. I see marriage as a union between two people who love each other. In fact I believe that legalizing it would be better for the country socially because (though people would be against it) it would make people less ignorant and open minded towards how people choose to live their lives, and also help show that being who you are no matter what it is is okay. yeah I agree... just how I guess the same goes for rights for Women and African Americans
  15. I can see where you're coming from Kels... I mean I'm sure there must be nothing more rewarding, happy or incredible than seeing your child for the first time... something that you created. At the same point that being said I'm sure you wouldn't want to have someone else telling you what to do with your body. So I think overall it is the women's choice (though I don't think that late term abortions or using abortion instead of a condom is acceptable). I guess going back to the topic of the article I find that it is terrible to essentially force women what to do, and if they don't they can be punished by death. Of course abortion isn't a good thing, however it is a woman's choice especially since it's her body.
  16. I'm glad to see how this topic has turned into a good debate so far, and also how people have turned out and voted. I would have to agree with most of what Greg has talked about so far, and feel that religion was a stepping stone from times of uncertainty to explain unknown things. However since we know how things work much better (though of course there's so much out there in the universe still to be learned about), I think that in some sense people should break away from religion. I'm not saying force people to stop believing... that's fine. But I think to make it a way of life is another story. Also though people do say that many of the things are misinterpreted (as the really are), there are also bits within the books that speak of terrible things. I mean you had Abraham who sacrificed his son because God told him to do so. If you were a parent, and heard "the word of god" (which probably at the time for Abraham he had schizophrenia) can you honestly tell me that you would go along doing so? Also in Middle Eastern cultures women are given very few rights, and also men are separated from the women. Plus the bible and priests push on how bad sexual acts are. It's to me this kind of controlling of peoples rights as well as natural functions that is wrong. Also I've been reading as well that there are some religious leaders that have prevented their people from getting vaccines of diseases because they don't think that it's natural or is just some conspiracy by the US. Meanwhile by preventing from doing so diseases like small pox have resurged in some countries. I of course think that it's mostly the leaders that have caused a lot of the problems as well as radicals. I mean you had the 9/11 hijackers believing that doing their deed was to have them be greeted in heaven w/ virgins. And from that you then had people like Rev. Fallwell blaming the 9/11 attacks on gays, abortionists, and feminists. It's these kind of people that say they are men of God that uninformed people feed into. It is the power of saying that God told you something or that you are speaking for god that is so harmful because people can be extremely easily manipulated.

  20. I enjoyed the song. I liked the drum beats and the piano added at the end was nice too. I may have added a few more instruments in the background to change things up a little bit throughout, but overall nicely done  edit: also your avi is awesome! :D
  21. be sure to post it here so I can add it to the list http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=67122
  22. Of course animals evolved from other kinds of animals. You can just go to a museum look at the fossils and see the similarities between the species. Also it's obvious that evolution exists in the sense that even in our lifetime our body and appearance is constantly evolving being that we look nothing like what we did as a child. Even if there is a missing link between say humans and one form of apes, and we were to find that in between missing link, i'm sure then you'd probably say "well where's the missing link between that in between human/ape and humans" Saying there's no evolution between creatures would be like looking a a horse and carriage from the 1800's and a modern car, and saying that the modern car was not influenced or didn't change over time. Maybe this videos will help a little bit more [ame= ] [/ame]
  23. what is wrong with you people!! :o liking Electioneering and Mr. Magpie?!?!
  24. I have more of a problem how people interpret religion. Simply because they use it for their benefit to control people but also use it against what it's initial use was for and that's I guess a moral compass. I think you can believe what you want to believe in but for my personal stand point I don't see how you can back it up. I could understand much more if someone said they believe in God or some sort of higher power, but to me it's the stories attached to it, that are taken to be 100% true that I can't take seriously Science isn't perfect, and of course there are a lot of holes in many theories. But I think science is able to do a much better job of explaining the world around us.
