  1. Let me quote 2 reviews by some internet critic that i generally dislike but with whom i agree about CP. The second part is a review of X&Y but it applies to VLV in my opinion. The album Parachutes |...| was mainly a display of dynamic and emotional ranges, as if to prove that, after so many failures (Blur, Oasis) the genre has acquired maturity and solidity. Despite the fact that their hit single, Yellow, relies on yet another catchy, upbeat refrain, songs like the majestic, stately, anthemic Everything's Not Lost and the tracks already published on EP present a fresh and sober take on melodic rock. Sparks and Trouble are derivative of the Smiths, but the whole album is just one gigantic summary of British pop. Martin is a better vocalist than this derivative album allows him to be, as proven by his falsetto acrobatics in Shiver. X & Y is neither the long overdue artistic statement nor a continuation of the band's facile melodic exploitation. Neither of its predecessors was particularly clever or original, but at least one could feel the passion vibrating inside the singer's whining voice and the existential paralysis behind the (mediocre) instrumental backing. X & Y "is" that paralysis without that passion. Like so many mainstream pop acts before them, from the Beatles to Oasis, Coldplay inject massive doses of indifference into the format of the elegiac ballad. Ultimately, too many songs are simply second-rate.
  2. haha yeah and if i had any doubts you were a complete ignorant, it's been confirmed too. Keep thinking or rather believing (it's just blind faith) that the new sound is original.
  3. I answer "no" to the question though. It's not utterly disappointing. Chris sings way better than on X&Y, he doesn't sound like an agonizing cat anymore and the production is generally pleasant, nothing to do with X&Y's fat whipped cream.
  4. Cheers to Zurby and Hugh, i agree with you guys, I wont repeat what i already said numerous times on the official opinions thread. Glad to see not everyone is a brainwashed groupie here.
  5. haha poor posters, me was meanie, oh nasty meanie, a  for anyone i offended.
  6. Yeah after watching the MTV awards, the german show and Kimmel, it did change my opinion of VLV and VH hahaha  Most ppl here won't like this comment but VH is the worst song on VLV in my opinion, their worst single ever, and one of their worst songs. I know many huge CP fans and they all agree.
  7. That was my feeling too, the first 10 listens, but I'm far beyond that point now haha
  8. He stole all of Jonny's skills.
  9. Yeah, i was thinking about that this morning too. I'm a bit perplexed, the sound is obviously better than X&Y but maybe we just get fooled by the wrapping. VLV might be a bit flatter, less heart, less passion.
  10. I personally didn't expect or want them to keep the same sound, I was just defending ppl who miss this era.
  11. Same here, I have listened to every song dozens of times and they don't grow on me. What you see the first time is what you will get, forever. I still don't think it's bad, i like the songs, but I don't love them. Like i have said a million times, no song really takes off. It's a pleasant bike ride not a roller coaster experience.
  12. Ppl don't miss parachutes itself, dumbasses. They miss the CP sound of this period and the quality of the songwriting. I have no problem with the new sound and I wouldn't have had any problem with X&Y either if the songs in those albums weren't second-rate. As for the originality of the new sound, open your eyes, it's only new for CP as i have already said 10 times. I wish CP would turn into a rap crew. You'd all come here moaning, complaining, missing the old days and I would tell you "what up mofos, you be missing the old CP, you still got the old albums bra bra"
  13. One of my friends told me this song made him think of the lion king lmao, the education of the young prince in the Savannah.
  14. Let's be more scientific haha. Experiment 1c "an operation or procedure carried out under controlled conditions in order to discover an unknown effect or law, to test or establish a hypothesis, or to illustrate a known law" (Merriam-Webster) CP or Madonna clearly didn't discover or try to discover anything in the field of music. No "unknown effect or law". They didn't break any convention, didn't go beyond any established milestone. One could argue that VLV tests the following hypothesis though : if we depart from our usual sound, some fans will be really pissed. :laugh3:
  15. I prefer the album version of Lost, it's more eventful, I like the beat, but i agree with your analysis of LIJ.
  16. I get your point. I chose Madonna on purpose because she did change her style a couple of times, but she didn't create anything totally new, she didn't redefine the meaning of music or even push the boundaries of pop music. Did she ? haha
  17. Madonna fans probably think her albums are experimental music too.
  18. yeah it's just a new sound for CP and a few CP fans who have never listened to any other band or genre.
  19. Agreed, they clearly haven't, ppl who call VLV an experimental album make me laugh.
  20. I don't miss stadium anthems but yeah there's no impressive chorus, it feels that the songs never really take off, it's pleasant but it doesn't take you higher
  21. I'm with you on this. Most songs sound labored and they lack strong melodies.
  22. just kidding :laugh3: It might be possible to get a few songs that were rejected from VLV though
  23. Parachutes knocks out VLV with one hand. Of course you can join, welcome !
