  11. Ok, gonna review mine now, so I can get on with some important but boring stuff this afternoon... I had to try to determine the order myself kinda like a puzzle which was fun, but one track had a different title so I didn't know where to stick that in the order...Anyway, I did the best I could :D Track 1 - These.mp3 First impression - "this must be the Manics surely", 2nd/3rd/4th impressions - this is the Manics! I like it very much. I've not gotten into MSP beyond the singles so this was lovely to hear. Wee bit shoutey, but that is their style I know...but it's forgivable cos JDB has such a great voice. I remember always meaning to buy Everything Must Go at the time, but never getting round to it. And last year I was going to buy the Best of cd, but then forgot to...I'm useless I know...I ain't gonna make that mistake again - I'm definately getting some of their stuff now :D Thank u for putting this on! Track 2 - Are.mp3 This is a grower I think, very intriguing, I'm liking it more and more. Good drumbeat, quite mellow after the first track. Vagely familiar sounding vocal, but I can't place it this time. The female vocal towards the end is a nice touch. Track 3 - The .mp3 Nice guitary start, soothing vocal. It's nice but leans towards the slightly dull end of the spectrum. The cello in the 2nd half is its saving grace. Beautiful strings, almost haunting. Track 4 - Songs.mp3 Lovely beginning. Nice shaky vocal. I like. Feels like I should recognise this vocalist, feels oldish, like 80's/90's. Nice chorusy bit then turns rocky! I like a lot. Love the undercurrent of strings. Track 5 - I.mp3 Ah, now this one is lovely. Instrumental. Starts quiet, relaxing piano then it really kicks in, calms down (interesting xylophone usage haha) and builds again. Fantastic changes of direction all the way thru. I really like this. Sounds like it would be an epic live track. Track 6 - Chose.mp3 Good drums again. Decent start, but then..Urgh, this track has taken a turn for the worst when the vocal starts. Awful vocals, both the girl and the boy, but especially the boy. Sounds noisy and confused now. Immature. Sounds Black Kids-esque, that sort of style. The music is decent, foot-tapping, but overall, I don't like this track. Fast forward. Track 7 - For.mp3 First impressions - sounds La Roux-like. Subsequent listens and I'm guessing it is La Roux. Interesting....cos I didn't like the first single at all. I'm not keen on her voice. But Bulletproof is a good track. Undecided on this one. Vocal is better this time. haha creepy spoken bit in the middle, reminds me of the Thriller voiceover. Ok, I'm a wee bit won over by this track. It's decent, not as good as Bulletproof but I still won't be rushing out to buy the album. Sorry. Track 8 - The.mp3 More electronic-y stuff. Instrumental. It's nice. Groovy. Interested to hear who this is. Track 9 - Mixtape.mp3 Nice start. Good drumbeat again. Deep soothing vocal, almost like White Lies or Editors sounding on the vocal. I don't think it is either of those bands tho. Nice female oooh-oohs, good track, nothing amazing about it but has potential, I'd like to hear more of the same band. I went away from this singing Lions by Ian Brown - some similarities there. Track 10 - Please.mp3 Another slow build. Almost dirge-like vocal. Short. It's ok, but not much to draw a listener in. Track 11 - Enjoy.mp3 Starts well, rocky. I'm enjoying it. Then the guitar turns a little too heavy. Good drumming though, again, sounds bass-ey too, which I like. I like the main vocal guy, don't care for the second shoutey vocal. This has grown on me a bit, like it better on 3rd listen. What's he singing at the end? The repeated bit- I can't make it out. Track 12 - was labelled as Track 7.mp3 I wasn't sure where this was supposed to go - so I stuck it at the end - not sure if you meant it to finish the mix but it makes for a good closing track. This one had all its info still on it so I tried deleting the artist name without actually reading it haha. It says 1997 so definately my era. I like this, this is more my sort of thing. Great drumming again, heavy in parts, subtle in others. Rocky track, but clever with it. I Like it. Ends really well. Would like to hear more. ---- Overall, a good mixtape - the first half of it I preferred over the second half, but it was all good, interesting stuff. Drums are a definite theme of this tape. And drums can really make a track imo, I'm a sucker for a groovy drumbeat so it's all good in my book. I'd be interested to know if some choices we tailored especially for me... I think this was a boy's mix tho. I don't think a girl made this. (hope I'm not wrong on this..:\) Highlights for me - tracks 1, 4, 5 + 12 - they made me want to hear more of the same stuff. Lowpoint was track 6. Anyway, Thank you mystery mixer. Very good job
  12. Yeah, I'm multi-quoting myself...so what..? Tempted to write a review now based on first impressions but....I won't...want to listen again and write tomorrow...plus it's late now..*yawn* First impressions tho'...not a single track that I already know/have heard, so that's good news (I wonder if my mixer did their homework on me..) tho I do have a few ideas on band/artist..:sneaky:

  21. Wow..I'm flattered you like my choices and you want to know more about them  Wow, where do I start... - The Temper Trap; new band so debut album only came out this month here. It's called Conditions but last I knew it was streaming on their myspace page http://www.myspace.com/thetempertrap There's a couple of good singles from there; Lost Love and Sweet Disposition. - Kula Shaker; Their debut 'K' I would recommend; lots of different sounds on there. Listen to some of it here http://www.last.fm/music/Kula+Shaker/K - Miike Snow; There's a debut, self-titled album, I believe but I haven't got it yet. I heard tracks on myspace. http://www.myspace.com/miikesnow - The Wonder Stuff; Their third album has the track you've heard and is probably the most accesible and poppy "Never Loved Elvis" But the previous one, "Hup" is better, less poppy and folkier. This band is still going so there's loads of albums, all fairly different. - Goldheart Assembly; new band so no album yet. A mini-album is due in October. If you use iTunes, you can buy their single So Long St Christopher on there. Or listen here - http://www.myspace.com/goldheartassembly (I was going to link you to last.fm but it's not working right now, but they are there too :D) They only made two albums before splitting up; but there's a couple of different best of compilations; The Stone Roses, the selftitled debut is an absolute must have for anyone imo ;) Other than that maybe The Very Best of...(from 2002) :) Album's called This is The Life Album 3 is very good. Album 1 is good too (Again, self titled - the singles LSF or Club Foot you're bound to have heard before..) I'm not too fussed on the 2nd one. That's streaming on myspace too. Wow, I didn't realise I used myspace so much... You've very welcome - I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for making my first ME experience an enjoyable one. Can I add you on last.fm now..? I've been dying to all week..;)
  22. This was MINE!!! I'm so glad you liked it; I was getting worried it was a bit crap and too old-school... it is quite a Brit rock sounding mix (tho they are not all British bands) - hopefully it's a good mix with something for everyone :D Oh, and the Icelandic was Welsh :P Thanks for the lovely detailed review btw xxx 1. Pop rock this is. Good for an intro track. Sounds a bit familiar. Can't help moving to it. I thought it made for a good intro too, upbeat and foot-tapping. A pre-Britpop band from the very early 90's; kind of a one-hit-wonder. It's one of those types of songs that has been around a long time and has probably been used in loads of film soundtracks. --- 1. Can U Dig It? - The Mock Turtles (1991) 2. Drums. Very cool beginning; somewhat reminds me of Devotchka. I like this a lot! An instrumental track and quite different from the one before A last minute inclusion & I'm not sure why I picked this over the others on this album...if you really liked this check out their other songs if you can (on their myspace), cos the singer's voice is amazing...very soulful. Quite a new band, they are Australian. Kind of electronic-indie. Pretty good. --- 2. Drum Song - The Temper Trap (2009) 3. This I like as well. Brit rock. Cool guitar work. I'm moving to this too. Funny, you should say Britrock, cos they are actually Swedish but sound a lot Beatles/Oasis -ey. A lot of their songs sound like they were from the 60's. This song actually reminds me of The Hives more than anything tho. This is a new-ish band for me; I've only recently discovered them, but have got 3 of their albums now and I'm enjoying them a lot. --- 3. God Knows - Mando Diao (2004) 4. Violins for the beginning. It's nice but I'm not so keen on it. Aw, I'm sorry you weren't that keen. This is one of my favourite songs ever. It's very clever. All the lyrics start with the letters f e a r ("Forget everything and remember") This guy was the singer in the band that did track 10; he's a British national treasure (he's everything Liam Gallagher would like to be) ;) --- 4. F E A R - Ian Brown (2001) 5. Cool beginning. Is this a cover? I really really like this one. "Relaaax!" Has a bit of 70s rock influence in it, I'd say. No, not a cover, it's brand spanking new, tho' it does sound very retro I agree. This is the one band I wanted to showcase, hoping I could win them over some new fans. (Track 16 is theirs too) The are a London band, indie-folk I think they describe themselves. I'm not even sure if they have been signed yet and they have been likened to Fleet Foxes quite a lot, but I think they are rockier and more upbeat. Again, they have their songs on myspace - check 'em out :D --- 5. Oh Really - Goldheart Assembly (2009) 6. Electronicish start. Not too keen on this actually. Seems like a remix, maybe? A Danish band that I tried out a few months back, some of their stuff is OK, this is one is nice..not great but nice. I thought it made a nice relaxing break between the rockier tracks. --- 6. To The Lighthouse - Moi Caprice (2005) 7. Acoustic at the beginning. Interesting sound takes over. This one is nice; instrumental. A local, Welsh band - kind of electronic folk, they do use a lot of intersting instruments and sounds. All their tracks are sung in Welsh tho, so I used one of their instrumentals. --- 7. Sonar - Brigyn (2004) 8. Very cool guitar work. "nanannana" Is it the same artist as the 5th one? Awesome. Can't wait to see who this is! No different band entirely, tho the singers' voices are quite alike, so I see why you would think that. Very Brit-pop era band. They were a biggish name in 90's, had a very Indian/Asian feel to some of their music. I loved them! (still do). They are still going strong I believe. This song is a cover, apparently it's a Deep Purple song..but their version was a cover too.. --- 8. Hush - Kula Shaker (1997) 9. This one is acoustic. It's nice. Not big on it, though. Acoustic and very mellow, I like it, especially the lyrics, tho the rest of his album was too run-of-the-mill. --- 9. Emily - Stephen Fretwell (2004) 10. I really like this one. Is it old? It's poppish, still I like it a lot. Some really good guitar work in it. And you should like it - it's great! Old? Yeah, very. This is one of my favourite bands and I could talk for hours about them. I had to include one of the tracks off their debut album cos that album is 20 years old this month. This band/album has been a major influence on hundreds of bands since then imo. There's loads of their tracks I could have picked, but some are fairly recognisable. This is one of the leser-known but still brilliant ones. Aw, I'm very glad you liked this - you won't be disappointed if you check out their other stuff :D --- 10. Made of Stone - The Stone Roses (1989) 11. This one is very nice. Poppish as well. But I very much like it. Another Swedish band that I've only recently discovered so I don't know much about them. Despite their name, they are a band, not one person. Their current single has been on the radio a lot lately but this one was on their myspace page and I liked it better than the single. --- 11. Song For No-one - Miike Snow (2009) 12. Quiet, acoustic beginning. Women's voice. Adele, is it? Sounds like her though I don't know her music that well so I'm not sure. I quite like this and how it takes up. Her voice is amazing :) Not Adele, but similar. This girl is Scottish, very young; kind of folky, very acoustic sound. This was one of only two tracks I included especially for you (Mew was the other ;)) based on some of your last.fm artists, I kind of guessed/hoped you might like this. --- 12. Run - Amy McDonald (2007) 13. Very different approach now. A bit of electronica. This I really like. Didn't expect it, honestly. Deffintely a standout. This band I  at the moment especially the current album - it's been a highlight of 2009 for me. I wanted to put one of the singles on here, but wasn't sure how recognisable they were, so I stuck the instrumental on instead. I highly recommend the rest of this album. --- 13. Swarfiga - Kasabian (2009) 14. Nice at the start. Violins. Quiet nice and catchy. I like it; very cheery. Another old-school band that I could talk at length about. More 90's Brit rock, this reminds me of teenage summers :D I really included this song for the fiddle, more than anything. I think there should be more songs these days with violin like this. I love how it ends. --- 14. Here Comes Everyone - The Wonder Stuff (1991) 15. Ah, this one is Mew's! :) But I don't know it. New album, is it? Still haven't listened to it. But I'm glad to see them on here. Yes! Mew :) ahhhh, I just love Mew. I knew I had to include some on my mix, then I matched with you, saw Mew on your last.fm page and had to take Small Ambulance off! :P I noticed you didn't have any of their new stuff listed so added this one for you. It's off the new EP, a definite b-side but one of their better b-sides imo. Relaxing and chilled. The new album is great, I highly recommend it. :D --- 15. Swimmer's Chant - Mew (2009) 16. Ukulele. Sounds live. It's quite nice :) Live - yep. Ukulele - yep :D This song was called The Uke Song at one point, but I think it's correct title is Bodies Underground. Same band as track 5, but shows a folkier, quieter side to them. --- 16. Bodies Underground - Goldheart Assembly (2009) 17. People chattering in the background. Weird sounds. Interesting way to end the mix. Women's voice takes over. I like it so far. Takes up now. Is this Icelandic? Or not, I'm not sure. It's quite nice, nevertheless. I would say it's Sigur Ros too but it's not Jonsi's voice, so I don't know. A Welsh band, again Britpop, but this was one of only a few tracks of theirs sung in Welsh. It was one of those hidden, bonus tracks that you get at the end of a cd and I wanted my mix to feel like it had a bonus track at the end, so I stuck it on. Plus, I adore this song. I'm glad you liked it :D Cool that you thought it sounded like SR, but really the two bands are not alike at all. --- 17. Gyda Gwen - Catatonia (1996) -------------- Wow, I had fun making this mix and hearing your thoughts. Thanks for a great review  I hope it makes other people want to listen too :D -------------- Here's the d/load link - http://www.mediafire.com/?zyheizzj43m - Paula xxx
