While Summit has reported to Access Hollywood that this mid-saga recasting is due to scheduling conflicts, others wonder if Summit is attempting to step up their game for the second and third film installments of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga. Having already replaced Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke with Golden Compass director, Chris Weitz, and the casting of Dakota Fanning as Jane in New Moon, Summit seems to be sending a message to both fans and moviegoers: this film is going to be less low-key and more big budget with more star power.
