  1. No, I appreciate it. I am trying to understand. You didn't answer my last question. This is just to make sure I have your point: Coldplay can be legally sued for simply bumping into a similar section of music that is owned by another artist, right?
  2. I accept your apology (by the way, I wrote "right" instead of "write"). That was just "angry typing". Anyhow, so your point is that Coldplay could bump into the same section of music, simply by coincidence, and still be sued for it? If so, I think I understand your point.
  3. It would be nice if YOU did not right 2000 words, of which, most is a foreign language to me. I read your entire post, punk (probably the only one). No one is taking you more serious than me. I just can't remember everything you said.
  4. THANK YOU! That is what I think he is trying to argue. And I want to know if there is any merit to it. He raises valid points.
  5. OK, you've convinced me. There are a lot of similarities. I had already come to that conclusion before you came here. But if those similarities are a pure coincidence, and Coldplay came up with it completely on their own (w/o ever listening to Satriani), why should they compensate him? Are you saying he OWNS and a particular section of music.
  6. How do you KNOW that it is not a PERFECT coincidence? I mean, Chris Martin said he wrote it himself. Are you claiming he is a liar?
  7. Exactly. Do the right thing and go change your screen name. Then come back in and talk. Not that you have to, it's just in such poor taste when you are on a Coldplay board. Don't you get it?
  8. Forget who know music and who doesn't. How do YOU know what is in Chris Martin's head...I mean that sincerely.
  9. OR did you mean "nor"...i have a headache
  10. bad post...you meant what you said...it's just not cool
  11. Don't criticize typos. They happen to all of us. Do you not understand the difference between "not" and "nor". It's not too cool when people do that, right?
  12. So maybe I should qualify that...as a Coldplay fan, I don't understand all of the details.
  13. EXACTLY!
  14. I think a lot of Coldplay fans are irrational and hardheaded when it comes to this issue. I am a Coldplay fan too, and I don't understand all of the details. This guy knows more about music than me. I admit it.
  15. Um, you're screen name and image. You don't get that? You lost 99% of the audience that could have listened to you right away.
  16. Oh no, I think you're rude. But I want to hear what you have to say.
  17. Damn, this guy is going to get banned and i am never going to get him to answer my question.
  18. That is true, but I don't think he is a troll. 1. The user name and the image, in a Coldplay message board, are not funny. I don't know how you could think it would be. 2. You are much more musically inclined than me. I appreciate your thoughts. Coldplay fans should understand what the other side is going to argue, and I appreciate the moderator leaving this up. I learned a lot. 3. Excuse my musical ignorance, but I still don't understand how you can determine what is going on in Chris Martin's head.
  19. oh snap! This one is going to get ugly.
  20. I agree completely. That is why I love Vida la Vida: the sum is greater than the individuals parts. An intro like Life in Technicolor and an outro like Death and All His Friends makes me feel like I have been on a musical journey. For artists I like, I purposely listen to an album from beginning to end out of respect for the artist and the voyage they have attempted to map out. You can tell this is important to Coldplay when they talk about the arguments over the sequential order of track selections. The only reason I brought up the Corgan and MJK quotes is that these are both artist that I respect, and I read it on back to back days. We are not there now, at least for most artists, but just some food for thought about what may be coming down the pike.
  21. Agreed. A simple cost benefit analysis leads me to that conclusion: For Satriani, if: costs>benefits ------> you don't file the lawsuit costs<benefits ------> you file the lawsuit where, costs are fixed: public scrutiny, family drug through the mud, hatred directed at him, time invested. benefits are not fixed 1. money (of which 1/3 will go to legal fees and 1/2 to taxes): this for a man who is already wealthy. 2. protecting artistic integrity. If you plug the benefits of #1 into the CBA equation, to me it does not make sense to file. If you plug #2 in, I understand.
  22. I agree with most of what you are saying, but I have come to find out that it will mostly fall on deaf ears. I do, however, appreciate your thoughts. I disagree that this thing will blow over. Maybe if a settlement is reached, but not if this goes to court. We just differ in our opinions there. I don't think Joe is in this for money at all. I question his decision to file a lawsuit because it may do more harm than good. I also question his timing because it was right after Coldplay's grammy nominations were announced. But I, like you, will continue to listen.
  23. Just a few quotes I read in the last few days, which got met to thinking about Coldplay. Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins): Corgan reaffirmed once again that last year's Zeitgeist was the last proper album from the band. He said, "People don’t even listen to it all. They put it on their iPod, they drag over the two singles, and skip over the rest. The listening patterns have changed, so why are we killing ourselves to do albums, to create balance, and do the arty track to set up the single? It’s done." He added, "Our primary function now is to be a singles band, that drives Pumpkins Inc. through singles. We’ll still be creative, but in a different form." Maynard James Keenan (Tool/A Perfect Circle): [in reference to APC making a new album] "Most likely we'll just kind of concentrate on one or two songs at a time, rather than investing all the time and money and effort into making those plastic discs that no one cares about anymore." Question: Would you prefer Coldplay to continue to make albums like Viva la Vida, or would you like them to become more of a singles band? Although I would like new Coldplay music more often, I would be heartbroken if they stopped making full length albums. Maybe I am just old fashion.
  24. Lists like this mean next to nothing to me. It's always fun when a band I like gets recognized, however, more times than not, the music I like does not win anything. It still doesn't change my opinion. I thought Viva la Vida was the best song last year. I don't care whether it was number one or not on the list at all. I still religiously read Rolling Stone, but I don't count on them for anything of substance. They practically rubber stamp every album review with 3.5 Stars unless your name happens to be Dylan or Springsteen (no offense, god knows I love "The Boss")
  25. Thank you. I always forget about that. But Satriani's lawyers, at least the ones who took this case, obviously believe he can win. I don't know what to think. And as much as we have heard about this, I still think it is the calm before the storm. I think if this thing goes to trial, it will be a defining moment. I really hope that other artists speak out on this issue. I am very curious to hear their thoughts.
