Guitarist Joe Satriani sues Coldplay for plagiarism
I don't think it is going to hurt Coldplay, legally speaking, that EMI pulled it. It just makes the nebulous concept of "music ownership" more concrete. For the record, the YouTube pages that discuss the Satriani/Coldplay case are some of the most vile places I have ever been to. I mean, out of pure interest, I have visited some of those discussions to see if anybody has any good insight. But all I am finding is some of the most hateful speech I have ever seen. I try not to take it serious, but it makes me sick to my stomach.

iTunes can never make up their mind. Every other R.E.M. album alternates between "alternative" and "rock". And for U2, The Unforgettable Fire is alternative, but Joshua Tree is rock. Look, I think labels are silly, especially with bands that have broad influences. If you want to divide a room, the easiest way to do it is throw an artist out there and have a debate over which SPECIFIC genre they fall into.

The Offical "The Killers" Thread
Read My Mind. I think Brandon also said it was the best song the Killers ever wrote (this comment was made pre Day and Age, so I don't know if that has changed).

Guitarist Joe Satriani sues Coldplay for plagiarism
I agree, the article was a bit harsh, but it was interesting. 1. It is EMI (Coldplay's label) saying that we don't like how you are using material that we OWN, and you need to STOP. This identifies a definite ownership of music as property and a need for unauthorized users to cease and desist. In other words, music is not common property, and there is clear and distinct ownership (or so EMI is contending). 2. That's what this case is all about.

Radiohead
Do you think Radiohead will ever make another album like "The Bends?" I was watching the Jools Holland performance of the song "The Bends" for the millionth time, and it made me wonder if there will ever be a time where Radiohead just strap on their guitars and rock hard. The Astoria DVD also reminded me. By the way, I think I can answer my own question with a NO. I think they are passed that phase, and would look at it as going backwards, but damn I love that album.

KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas Webcast
*** BUMP *** Tonight's show begins in about 5 hours. It is an amazing line-up.

Radiohead
Yeah, I have that DVD, and it is good. But I agree, I think they were only far enough in their careers to play songs from Pablo Honey and The Bends.

Guitarist Joe Satriani sues Coldplay for plagiarism
Oh, I see...I am sorry. Interesting article nonetheless. :) And when I say suspicious, I am not inferring that I think Coldplay intentionally plagiarized. In fact, if I had to guess, I believe that they did not. I do think that this case is going to be very sticky.

Well, EMI does believe in copyright laws. We'll see if they believe the door swings both ways. Your last sentence seems to suggest that you are even more suspicious than me. Thanks for the video. I had already watched this one, but I played it again.

Tomorrow's line up is fantastic...but tonight, STP kicked ass. What a great band! I look forward to this every Christmas.

Coldplay Are My Other Parents
That's a cool story. Music has certainly shaped my life and the way I look at the world. Coldplay has played a big role in that process. :)

KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas Webcast
Just wanted to let everyone know that tonight and tomorrow the radio station KROQ is putting on their annual Almost Acoustic Christmas. For those of you who are interested, they stream a live webcast of the performance. Just go to: http://www.kroq.com They have a place where you can test out the media player to make sure that you are up to speed. You don't want to be scrambling when an artist you like is up.

POP is a fair OVERARCHING category for Coldplay. When I go into a record store, Coldplay is always going to be categorized as POP/ROCK. It is especially fair in the context of Coldplagiarism's comments, as he was comparing classical compositions to pop (or popular) music. If you start sub-dividing into genres, which I completely get, it becomes a case of MORE like "X" or LESS like "Y". It's just whether you are examining this at a MICRO (sub-genres) or MACRO level.

I'm steering clear of that universe. I have a hard enough time understanding the universe I already live in!

LOVE THIS ALBUM. With a capital "L". I am so excited. Right up there with some of the best albums of the 90's IMO.

The Offical "The Killers" Thread
I love the Killers. I don't care that sometimes their music is all over the place. I can understand why this is a band that may get hammered by critics, but I don't care. I almost don't want to over analyze it or I may stop liking it...it's just fun music. And for those of you who like Coldplay because they are a good bunch of guys, The Killers are their equals. Really cool and down to earth. And they are great live. I have already heard Spaceman, Human, Neon Tiger and Losing Touch live...good stuff.

Radiohead
I love them both as well. I prefer Kid A, but for me, my favorite song on Amnesiac is Knives Out.

OY! I at least know you're level headed, so I will not attempt to debate any of these points. You should know by now, since you have corrected me at least 3X, that this guttersniping drives me nuts.

My album blew away (exciting story inside)
Man, you Canadians have it rough sometimes. I live in California, and if it starts to rain I freak out :)

Coldplagiarism
ABSOLUTELY. Perhaps Satriani does want the spotlight. But I find it very, very, very unlikely in this case, and I certainly would not claim it as a fact. Your other stuff was in good humor, I must admit :)

That might be the most random story of all time...but I liked it. If I was you, I would have to get a new CD. I can't stand when things get banged up.
