Hi guys, Just a general question. Do you think short breaks in relationships work out? For example if a couple are having a few hiccups and fights continuously, can a short break e.g. not seeing each other for however amount of time help in the long run? Or is it a lead up to an inevitable break up? Regards

i don't own a deluxe but i own a thin line which is the same guitar jonny is famous for using. And I can tell you, it doesn't give the jonny tone of coldplay studio records, but it sure does give a very similar tone to his live one.

you'd think so, but i'd have to disagree. I'm not sure if its the Unstaged version or Live 2012 version but he plays with his white strat with red paint. It's pretty safe to assume its standard because he's used that same guitar on other standard tunning songs throughout the MX tour. As for what his playing: High C# with modulated reverb from his RV5. I use something called a particle reverb which gives a very similar effect and can even get 100% decay. The rest of the song remians in tact like the original except for his solo. In this case it's extremely hard to hear what his playing because the band are going for loud loud loud loud in this part. I used a phaser once with a fair bit of distortion with delay and got pretty close. Just have to abuse the hell out of the phaser. Have a good one!

yeh it just goes to show, when you think effects units and tone nobs are enough for an instrument something else comes along.

I just unlocked the world of stereo guitar playing and am still :O The difference is amazing....... Was wondering if anyone else plays in stereo too?

don't forget that to play a song like In My Place or like most Coldplay songs, its not good enough to just play it right but you got that sound right too.

Jay uses some pretty cutting edge stuff like eventide really good for delays and reverbs. I bought an m13 Line 6 few months ago to play U2, Coldplay and The Police Stuff. It. Is. GOLD. I highly recommend it. A bit pricey but good value for what you pay for. But that is my second guitar multi fx pedal, my first was a korg AX50. I'd recommend that first unless you know 100% guitar will be a long term thing get the m13. Trust me just youtube "m13 u2" or "m13 coldplay" and somethign good should come up

im laying down in bed so cant tell you exactly what notes but its pretty simple just like 6 notes i think. He uses an E-Bow and reverb for the main riff. Not sure what he plays in chorus though

So far I've got this to play it: Intro: Particle Reverb with 100% mix with just one note looped. C# Build Up with drums: C# distorted palm muted (delay wouldnt hurt :P) Main riff: > Pre Chorus : > Same as studio version Chorus : > And the awesome yet difficult to tab solo. As Moses mentioned it's on one string and I would agree considering some where in the solo you can hear him going up a scale which i play on the B string Anyone who can correct me if possible please do! I have particle reverb on my m13 Line 6. Trust me it sounds exactly like Johnny's tone. Very spacey

i own an m13 line 6 and have come very close :) im not near my guitar (in bed half asleep) but i can tell you roughly what i use. Intro solo thing: Colordrive with a little over 50%. Use a little bit of reverb so its faint but there and analog chorus with low speed high mix and high depth. Verse: color drive with delay (dotted 8th note) i think i turn reverb off but i can't remember chorus: same thing as verse. thats about it! tc

gi can tell you the exact effect he is using. It's called particle reverb. Youtube it. It's an amazing effect especially if you volume swell e.g. at the end of up in flames you can see jonny twisting the guitar knob to let the particle reverb ring. Alternatively he could just be using his RV5 boss reverb pedal with a loop, but I'm certain its the particle reverb which he also uses for the verse of major minus. hope that helped

haha yeh when i mean loud i mean live and in the overall velocity the instruments/vocals are performed. I'm going to go see Coldplay on saturday night and I'm just aching to see those lights light up as Will bashes the hell out of the drums
