Hi, all. I've sort of been going through a Coldplay phase recently... well, all right, the only thing I've listened to for the past week is from Viva La Vida or A Rush of Blood. They really are a very good band.
What I don't understand is why so many "highbrow" critics seem to hate Coldplay. All right, they have a couple of points (I don't think I could listen to the first part of 42 for a whole song, ex.) but they usually criticize them for what makes them such a good band. Sing-a-long lyrics? Yes, please. I don't remember when being catchy automatically made you a bad band. Not rock'n'roll enough? They aren't really a rock band. (Actually, I wouldn't call them any kind of band.) Don't act like rock stars? Oh, I'm sorry, I thought politeness was considered a good quality. On that note, their politeness must be fake, critics say. Pretty cynical to assume that no one has a nice personality. Too mainstream? Mainstream doesn't make a band bad. Chris Martin's voice too quiet/comforting? A little true in some cases, but why is it suddenly bad to listen something that's a pleasant experience to listen to?
You see where I'm going? Anyway, I really like Coldplay, contrary to what many critics say, I think their music is usually quite artistic. So I thought I would say hello to all of you fellow Coldplay fans (hopefully you aren't, like, murderous fanatics) (you don't seem like that from the lurking I've done :)).
Additionally, anyone know if Coldplay will ever come to Louisville, Kentucky? Or any region near here. Because I would completely, totally go. We're not a big city or a big state, but it would be amazing if they came. So, so amazing.
Oh yeah, and recently I developed a sort of celebrity crush on Chris Martin, which may sort of color my opinion a little bit. He seems like such a nice guy. :) I hope he and Gwyneth are happy together. :)
