It's just "2nd album syndrome" but a bit delayed. Dunno where the "housewives" bit comes from...

I just finished watching "Planetes" I was really disappointed with how it was going 6 or 7 episodes in but it got really great and was a very enjoyable series. Wtih some genuinely touching and "realistic" issues tackled. Which leads me to wonder why it is that a lot of Anime starts off trivial and "silly" before there is a turning point and it gets "serious". I would have stopped watching a few shows had I not been told that they were worth grinding through the earlier episodes to where it starts to get good. In fact even with EVA, if I had seen the first episode on TV I don't think I would have tuned in the next week for the 2nd.
