Absolutely right! I remember you told me "Oh your #2 is great!" It was Signs And Wonders by Animal Kingdom (awesome song btw!). I remember when we found the album too :D Haha, it did! And more than you think  Yeah, he's right, you should check out this great band, their album is good!

I think we have many things in common :D I'm really, REALLY into music, as you say, my life definitely revolves around it, I'm also really open minded (but you already guessed that, right  ) and I love discovering new stuff. Haha yeah I was a bit nervous cause I was afraid you'd know all the artists I wanted to put but I was also SO happy cause I knew I'll have an awesome review :) So this little stress didn't last that much! Thank you for the compliment, once again, I'm glad you liked it! About Little Comets, I'm impatient to discover their album, hope it's gonna be released soon! I'll let you know :) Jehro is a really really great artist, SO underrated here... I'd be glad to share this album with you! I love the album From Here To There by Girls In Hawaii, one of those albums that really blows your mind, in my opinion. It's a bit dark as I said but really good, I enjoy it. Didn't like that much the second one, although it's great. I guess it's because I was into the first one a little bit too much! You should really have a look to Teen Dream! I mean, listen to it entirely, tracks in the right order. It's really amazing in my opinion, it carries me, don't know how to explain... About Grover Washington, that's funny cause I had the same feeling when I listened to it the first time, I was like "WOW, 1981, not older??!!". I think you would fall in love with this album :) I love jazz, especially smooth jazz, but I don't know that genre as much as I want to... I'll have to dig more! And Miles Davis is fascinating. Kind Of Blue is an undescribable album. Always gives me thrills! And again, thanks for the compliment, it means a lot to me  Oh, so you know The Drums but didn't recognize them! That's funny cause I always thought they were easily recognizable! Oh you should definitely listen to their album, it's really great! I've listened to it on repeat when I had it and still do sometimes :D Yeah, I don't feel bad but I really hoped you'd like this one cause it's a French band and the voice is special to me. I don't regret AT ALL putting this one though, I always want to give things a try! Plus, I think you highlighted some things that are really relevant to me on this one, it's good to have another opinion, especially when it's from you ;) I absolutely agree with you, sometimes there are some artists you don't like that much and when you give them a second chance they appear to be great! I remember this thing about Arcade Fire you mentionned on the last mixtape exchange! It's good you like them finally, they're awesome in my opinion. Same thing happened to me for Vampire Weekend. Didn't like it that much. But I felt I was missing something so I gave it a try again... Totally addicted now and saw them live on Tuesday: awesome! Oh yeah, I have this feeling too! And I hope I'm not mistaken :) I really want to send you some stuff but I know your internet and your computer hate you, I hope we'll find a way! Just let me know what's the best :) Thanks again!!

Hey Evelien, nice to meet you then :D I totallly agree, making a mixtape is hard for the reasons you mentionned! You did a great job, trust me! Wow so great choice for Absynthe Minded  Haha yeah, I know I don't HAVE to like this track but I admit that sometimes I feel like I'm missing something, even more in this situation as we have many things in common. So I'll give it a try again and we'll see :) About Justin Vernon: I PROMISE! I would be silly not to check this out! And I absolutely trust you about life being so much better ;) Too bad for the gig... It can be really expensive, even more when you travel (I know that). I was there! Front row, middle! One of my best birthday ever, the best Coldplay gig ever I've attend! 7th September surely rule :D

Hello doritji, my mixtape maker! (Sorry, don't know your name, or maybe it's doritji and I'm a bit ridiculous there :laugh3: ) First of all: SORRY FOR THE DELAY!! I read your great reply but didn't have time to answer until tonight, and then my tape got reviewed so... Anyway, I wanted to say I really enjoyed your tape! And I love reviewing so it was my pleasure! I think if I had listened to it 2 weeks ago it would have made me cry because of my mood at this moment lol! I'm currently listening to your tape and I'm enjoying it more and more, even the tracks I liked less! I really have some artists to check out now! Thank you for putting some Absynth Minded, I already heard one of their songs and found it awesome, you reminded me to listen to them :) I'm sorry about track 11! But I'm not giving up, gonna give it a try again :) And my comment about TV show wasn't a bad one at all! I love TV shows and discover some artists thanks to that so... :) Oh and no, I didn't recognize Bon Iver on track 3 :stunned: !! But I only know For Emma Forever Ago so... I will definetely check out ALL their stuff and Justin Vernon's ones too! This mixtape had a big personality, I loved the originality of the tracks! Some of them disturbed me but that's what I like in music: I'd rather be disturbed by track than being indifferent to it... I'm glad you took some risks and put what YOU like, that's what the mixtape exchange is made for I guess! Did the same. No problem for the artwork, that happens! And it didn't spoil me so that's OK! You're right about me, I'm "jazzy" lol and we have lot of things in common in music (and yeah, 7th September f****** rule, especially when it's a Coldplay gig in a stadium that day :p ). I will surely ask you for some tips about artists, feel free to do the same with me :) I'm really looking forward to discover more of all these bands I don't know, I'll keep you in touch! Thanks again!

Hello Violet!! So, I'm your mixtape maker :D ! Yeah, I know, you don't know me at all and you just might be thinking "how comes she knows me??". Freaky... :p Well to be honest, I noticed you on the last mixtape exchange, I thought your review was amazing! And then you said you were really into music so... I'm glad you liked the title of the mixtape! I was really honored when I saw you were my partner but also stressed, I admit it! So yeah, you were kind of special to me ;) I guessed you'd know some of the artists but didn't stalk you that much cause I didn't want to be too influenced and also wanted this mixtape to reflect as much as possible my personnality and my tastes. Anyway, thank you very for your review which was, again, amazing!! Really enjoyed reading it! I'm so glad you liked the mixtape overall! One more thing and I'll stop my bullshit, I really want to thank some coldplayers that made me discover lots of awesome bands lately: Tauiwi, Aliceincoldplayland and Khalplay :) Ok so, let's go! Track #1 : Adultery – Little Comets- Adultery (single release) – 2010 – UK So, it's not Kele! Little Comets, from UK. No album yet! Upbeat was the first word that came to my mind when I first discovered them in the last mixtape I recieved (thanks Tauiwi!)! I thought it would be a great opener for this mixtape and I'm glad you agreed :) Track#2 : New Houses – Two Door Cinema Club- Four Words To Stand On (E.P) – 2009- Ireland Oh yeah! A Two Door Cinema Club fan :) Yes, it's them!! Maybe you don't know this song because it's from their first E.P which is great!! I commend "Standing On Ghosts" on this E.P which is one of my fav with "New Houses". I like this song cause it's a little bit more "quiet" and Alex's voice is really emphasized on this track in my opinion. Tauiwi got me onto them :) Track#3 : Eyes As Candles – Passion Pit – Manners – 2009 – USA So, a great electro-pop band I discovered thanks to the previous mixtape exchange (yeah, still the same coldplayer :D ). One of my fav on their debut album with "Sleepyhead" and "Let Your Love Grow Tall". The singer has a great voice in my opinion though I admit it might be a bit boring if you listen the album on repeat. Track#4 : Some Kind Of Nature (feat. Lou Reed) – Gorillaz – Plastic Beach – 2010 – UK Haha, I thought you'd probably know this one! I really wanted to put some Plastic Beach stuff here :) I hesitated with "White Flag" which is probably my fav... But well, I like Lou Reed's voice in this one and thought it would fit with the previous track. Glad you liked my choice :) Track#5 :My Boy Builds Coffins – Florence + The Machine – Lungs – 2009 – UK I could have bet you'd knew this one! Nothing else to say about her, totally agree with you :) Wanted to put at least one track from her, I chose this one cause it's not particularly famous I think and I thought it'd fit well with the following track. Thanks Khalplay for making me discover her ;) Track#6 : One Who Loves You The Most – Brett Dennen – So Much More – 2006 – USA Brett Dennen, one my fav artist in this genre! A californian young man with an awesome voice in my opinion. But I easily understand that you didn't like it as it's pretty particular! It's from his 2nd album (he actually made 3), my favourite album so far. If you manage to like his voice I totally commend all of his albums which are all great! Track#7 : Sweet – Jehro – Jehro – 2006 – France So glad you like it! Haha, totally agree with your "old mexican" feeling! This man is awesome, one of the rare french artists I absolutely love. He sings in english and in spanish on this album. He can make comitted songs, sad songs or some songs like this one, happy and funny. Hardly commend his self titled album!! Tell me if you are interested! This one is his first, actually preparing the second one (can't wait!). Track#8 : See The World – Gomez – How We Operate – 2006 – UK I was afraid you'd know this one! Glad you didn't! Discovered it on a TV show (maybe House M.D, not sure). The video clip is really well done, makes you wanna travel :) I really like the vocals too cause, as you said, it fits perfectly! (Sha la la la la laaaa :) ) Track#9 : Fontanelle – Girls In Hawaii – From Here To There – 2004 – Belgium Yeah, I don't understand the lyrics sometimes too, have to read them :laugh3: It's a belgian band, Girls In Hawaii, so maybe it explains this weird english as it's not their mother tongue. This album is just amazing... Didn't know which one to pick for the tape as I absolutely wanted to put one of theirs. I REALLY commend this album, although there are 2 songs I don't like that much. It's a bit dark though but not too much I think, that's what I loved. Track#10 : Flume – Bon Iver – For Emma, Forever Ago – 2007 – USA Haha, I was almost sure you'd know this one! But it was impossible for me not to put one song of this fantastic album on this tape... Discovered them thanks to Aliceincoldplayland (thank you again for that!) and it was just a revelation... Justin Vernon is really fascinating! Glad you like them too =) Track#11 : Gold In The Air Of Summer – Kings Of Convenience – Riot On An Empty Street – 2004 – Norway :stunned: ... You just suprised me!! So you know them! I discovered them by chance, with the song "Homesick" which I loved (I hesitated with this one) so I gave a try to the album which is pretty good! Love the voice, makes me float in the air, although it's not the best voice ever. Glad you liked it, really :) Track#12 : Used To Be – Beach House – Teen Dream – 2010 - USA I was afraid you'd know this one! So, it's Beach House, from the outstanding album Teen Dream. Absolutely love this album, there isn't one song to throw up (thank you Aliceincoldplayland!!)! I think this is an album you have to listen to entirely, it was SO hard for me to pick up one song!! Anyway, if you think it's some music you could listen to on a regular basis, I can't do nothing else but commend you to listen to this album (and send it to you if you want!)... Seriously, I mean the more you'll listen to it, the more you'll be addicted :) Track#13 : East River Drive – Grover Washington Jr. – Come Morning – 1981 - USA Oh my God... I'm SO SO SO happy you loved this one! Especially when you said it was one of your faves on the mixtape, it really made my day (or should I say my evening or my night, it's pretty late here!) !! It was risky to put that on a mixtape (already did it last time, can't help myself :D ) so it's great! I really love jazz and funk due to my musical "life" (I'll explain you one day if you want) ... There are 2 albums for me which are masterpieces in this genre: Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis in 1959 and this one, Come Morning by Grover Washington Jr. in 1981. I found this album while I was looking for some vinyls in a little shop and saw it: the cover was so beautiful... Didn't know that much the man but I bought it anyway... What a surprise when I listened to it! It's now my fav vinyl. Grover is one of the masters of what they call "smooth jazz" and this album was made in 1981, when funky music started to grow up and being really great. We can easily hear some funky influences in this album! Anyway, glad you liked it! And really, there are some tracks you might love in this album! Track#14 : Sha-La-La (Make Me Happy) – Al Green – Explores Your Mind – 1975 – USA Hahaha you made me laugh one more time with your review of this track!! Yeah, so Al Green, the man, the legend... Again, an oldie one, wanted to stay on the previous mood with this little oldie thing but wanted to raise up the rhythm too. Glad it brought to you some memories! Al Green is one the best soul singer in the entire world in my opinion. Saw him live last Friday in Paris and it was just like the best gig EVER! Track#15 : I’ll Never Drop My Sword – The Drums – The Drums – 2010 – USA It was a bit risky to put some "surfing rock" right after Al Green but well, I guess I'm a cheeky person :p Glad it didn't shock you! So The Drums! A great band I discovered lately (thanks Tauiwi and Aliceincoldplayland!) and I love this surfy thing they have on their songs, it smells holidays! It's their debut album and I think it's brilliant in this genre! Easily enjoyable! This one is probably my fav. The E.P is also great! One thing I love about them is their abiliity of having such happy instrumentals most of the time but not always happy lyrics, love this contrast. And yeah, he's a boy  Track#16 : I May Be Late – Jil Is Lucky – Jil Is Lucky – 2010 – France Another french band! Not really famous here (so as Jehro) but they're really talented! I was a bit disappointed you didn't like the voice! But I understand your feeling, really! It's their debut album, really varied genres here. I saw them live on a barge, it was really awesome! The musicians are really great and his singing is really impressive (in my opinion, lol!). They ended the set with this song and I liked this choice so I thought it was a good idea for my mixtape... My bad! So... I guess I'm done! Thanks again for this awesome review!! If you are interested on some albums, don't hesitate, ask me!! If you want to share some things with me, I'd be really glad to so, once again, don't hesitate! Here's a condensed tracklist: Track #1 : Adultery – Little Comets- Adultery (single release) – 2010 – UK Track#2 : New Houses – Two Door Cinema Club- Four Words To Stand On (E.P) – 2009- Ireland Track#3 : Eyes As Candles – Passion Pit – Manners – 2009 – USA Track#4 : Some Kind Of Nature (feat. Lou Reed) – Gorillaz – Plastic Beach – 2010 – UK Track#5 :My Boy Builds Coffins – Florence +The Machine – Lungs – 2009 – UK Track#6 : One Who Loves You The Most – Brett Dennen – So Much More – 2006 – USA Track#7 : Sweet – Jehro – Jehro – 2006 – France Track#8 : See The World – Gomez – How We Operate – 2006 – UK Track#9 : Fontanelle – Girls In Hawaii – From Here To There – 2004 – Belgium Track#10 : Flume – Bon Iver – For Emma, Forever Ago – 2007 – USA Track#11 : Gold In The Air Of Summer – Kings Of Convenience – Riot On An Empty Street – 2004 – Norway Track#12 : Used To Be – Beach House – Teen Dream – 2010 - USA Track#13 : East River Drive – Grover Washington Jr. – Come Morning – 1981 - USA Track#14 : Sha-La-La (Make Me Happy) – Al Green – Explores Your Mind – 1975 – USA Track#15 : I’ll Never Drop My Sword – The Drums – The Drums – 2010 – USA Track#16 : I May Be Late – Jil Is Lucky – Jil Is Lucky – 2010 –France Here's the link in case anyone's interested: http://hotfile.com/dl/26618289/e5cdca2/Mixtape.zip.html

The 6th Mixtape Exchange (closed for entries)
Wow, those reviews are great and the mixtapes sound really good!! So, here goes my review! First of all, I’d like to apologize for my english mistakes and some of my sentences which may sounds weird to you, it’s hard to express myself in english to describe music and feelings sometimes :D Most of the artworks weren’t removed but I managed not to see them so I wasn’t spoiled! As usual, I wrote my review during my first listening, putting everything that came to my head and then listened it again to see if I missed something. Review time!! (Sorry if it’s too long…) Track 1 : Drums, man’s voice… Great opening, really fast ( I mean, there’s no intro). Love the voice, melancholic… Then comes an acoustic guitar and an electric one with a little riff. And a bass line. The song turns up to a more happy mood, it started in a sad way with this voice… Really like it ! The voice is really really good ! Pop song, really pleasant, dreamy mood… Those 2 acoustic guitarsreally fits well together… A romantic song in a way. Really like it cause it’s not too mellow, or too cliché despite the lyrics. Track 2 : great drums again and an acoustic guitar. Electric one also, reminds me a Coldplay song in a way. A man’s singing. Reminds me Patrick Watson, great voice, melancholic. Lyrics are too (« I still care for you… ») Love the rhythm which switches. The transition is really well done ! We move from a dreamy song to another one in the same mood which is slower. It moves me less than the previous one though. But I really enjoy it. And the strumming pattern of the guitar is awesome, powerful but simple, so as the drums. It really fits well ! Track 3 : Great beginning, folk guitars with reverb… Love guitars, so great there are that much in this mixtape. Here comes the voice. Or should I say the voices ! Sounds like choirs, with several voices singing at the same time, women and men… Really moving… The strumming pattern is really good again, there’s no drums, no bass line, so the guitar have the power, it leads the song… Like the electric guitar I think, with this little effect coming sometimes. Yeah, the voices are really awesome ! Oh and here comes a banjo I think, it’s great, it gives this lil bit dark song some light… But keeps it moving, it’s like it brought some hope… Really disturbing track, in a good way ! Really like it ! Here comes the banjo again at the end… Track 4 : Piano beginning, electric guitar too with this little riff and effect. And the drums… Wow, disturbing ! That was slow but the drums took the song to a faster rhythm. And the piano follows, increases its rhythm. And the voice’s coming, woman, really brutaly, didn’t expect that ! That’s great, the drums keep on increasing, leading the track. I really love the switches of the rhythm, that’s brilliant ! I’m not a big fan of these kind of voices but I admit that it fits perfectly with this kind of songs, pop-rock. The transition was again really clever, it’s like this song wanted to prepare us to the takeoff of the mixtape cause it starts slowly, like the other ones, but then the rhythm increases. Wow, love that bridge, with the drums and piano in foreground and the guitar on background… And the voice coming again ! A powerful track I’d say ! It grabs you til the end ! I think it’s cause of the association of the voice and this rhythm that keeps on changing, really brilliant ! Track 5 : Oh, electro beginning ! With synth and drums. Here comes the electric guitar, an electro effect backwards too. Rhythm is fast ! transition’s good again, it confirms what I thought, the previous one was the takeoff. The voice’s coming, little dark, with a little effect on the sound. Oh chorus is coming, weird, didn’t expect that. Some distortion guitar is in too. Don’t know why but there are a few chords that doesn’t fit well together in my ears. It’s kinda psychelic or mystic, don’t know. Oh, acoustic guitar’s coming. A really disturbing track. Don’t like it that much, maybe this dark, psychedlic side… Track 6 : Acoustic guitar picking beginning, sounds a lil bit latino. The other instruments come together, so as this man’s voice. Like it, reminds me Liam Gallagher in a softer way! Some violins backwards, that’s great. Love the drums, slow rhythm. A powerful song again, melancholic. Like the guitar riff at the end of the chorus. The bridge’s coming, some horn I think, really fits well with the instru ! A really cool song, quiet, great to think about your life when you need to. Track 7 : Folk guitar beginning, nice chords and strumming pattern ! Sounds dreamy, an electric guitar riff is coming, then a bass and drums… Really great intro ! Voice! Really like it !A soothing voice, a man. It sounds as if he doesn’t want to disturb the instruments, that’s funny ! Love the way of singing, the passion but this lil bit shyness also. That’s really moving ! Rhythm increases, but not that much, drums are taking a bigger part now ! They kinda let their place to the voice when it comes, really sweet ! An other disturbing track, in a great way ! Really like it ! The power increases, the voice becomes even more passionate, the instru becomes richer. Really clever way to put all these instrumental parts together ! This is a pretty long song. It ends kinda brutally. Really liked this one ! Track 8 : Drums begin the track ! And then a man’s voice, sounds kinda retro ! But the voice is modern. Really nice mix ! A good pop rock song, all the ingredients are there, drums, guitars, bass, rock voice. Like the choirs background that are coming sometimes. The voice reminds me Noel Gallagher ! Haha like the end ! With this broken violin sounding (synth I think) ! Great pop rock song, more classical than the previous ones but really great ! Track 9 : acoustic guitar, starting with almost no silence with the previous one. I like the voice, pretty common though, and the bass backwards. A man’s singing. Some synth effects are backwards too, it adds to the song a mystic part. An instru part starts, lead by a synth, that gives a electro dimension to this track, really strange cause this song is almost only acoustic but it fits well ! Piano comes here. I admit I find the song a bit long, maybe cause the strumming pattern stays the same all along. An another melancholic song. Fading out at the end, as if we were falling asleep… Pleasant ! Track 10 : Starting with piano, synth effects. A man’s voice, with some« broken » thing, starts the track. Drums come ! really like the voice, I’m pretty sure I heard it before but where ??? … Or maybe cause it sounds a bit like Kings of Leon… There, the song takes off, thanks to the drums and the bass line which came. Really love the voice, especially the way he hits the high notes, always with this broken thing, it makes me melt ! Power increases, with the bridge which is well done ! The chorus is great too, melody stays in the head, I’m starting to sing along :D Really loved this one !! Track 11 : Starts fastly, with drums at a high rhythm. Voice and piano come. Broken voice again, like it ! Less than the previous one though. Sounds a bit dark, as the lyrics. Seems like the guy is desperate. Oh, chorus comes and the rhythm switches, it sounds less dark. And then we’re back at the verse. Like the piano riff. But that change of rhythm and mood in the chorus kinda disturbs me… Some violins are coming during the bridge, a great instrumental part. This bridge is good. But then comes the chorus… I don’t know why it disturbs me… That’s too bad cause I like the rest of the song although it’s a bit dark but the chorus disturbs me too much to enjoy it. Track12 : Drums, bass, piano. All in low notes, electric guitar riff. Transition is good cause it’s another dark track. The voice is great, man’s one. Chorus is great too, less dark, love the electric guitar strumming on background. This piano riff during the verses is dark, it gives all the dimension to this song in my opinion. Really enjoying this one. Electric guitar riff with some little bends during bridge following the piano notes sometimes is awesome ! Reminds me the previous one, with this dark side that disappears a bit during the chorus in a better well done way in my opinion. Really liked this one ! I was a bit frustrated beacause of the previous track but this one definetly erase this feeling :) Track 13 : Piano starting, we’re leaving the dark side ! Sweet piano riff, like it ! Voice is coming, sounds retro, like it too ! A bit melancholic but not dark. Bass comes. Then drums, electric guitars, that starts brutally ! Great ! The singer becomes more passionate, less melancholic, as if he woke up to fight for what was disturbing him at first ! The chorus is great too ! Wow, after a little quiet moment, rhythm switches again to become really fast, really rock ! Didn’t expect that ! Well done ! Head is shaking and foot is tapping ! Easily imagine that during a gig, really powerful ! Ends brutally ! Track 14 : Folk guitar is begining the track with reverb effect, some effects on the back ground. Voice is coming, sounds like Joshua Radin. Yeah now I’m sure it’s him ! Really like his voice and his work although I think it’s a bit too mellow for me if I listen an entire album. Violin is here, which makes the song even more melancholic. This song is sad, like a goodbye… Don’t listen to it if you just broke up LOL ! Good song in this genre, I like it ! Although, as I said, it’s a bit too mellow for me. Track 15 : Acoustic guitar at the beginning ! Reminds me « kiss me », maybe the strumming pattern at the beginning lol ! The voice is coming, a young man I assume. The song really starts, drums, bass line, electric guitars, piano. A pop « easy listening » song, sounds pretty good to me. Can easily be heard on a tv show ! The bridge is good, like the way it’s brought. Haha yeah, I have lots of images coming from various tv shows ! Ends with a last strum on guitar, as a lot of songs of this genre do. Good one, appreciated it ! Track 16 : Starts with an acoustic guitar and drums. Drums stop. An electric guitar comes. And then the drums come back. The voice is coming… OH YEAH, Bon Iver’s singer ! LOVE JUSTIN VERNON’S VOICE ! Just outstanding ! Really like this song, sounds like a great ending. Really dreamy one, not melancholic or sad, just dreamy, maybe a bit nostalgic. But really dreamy, as if you were laying on the grass, watching the sky… Don’t have anything to say anymore, love this one, tells us that the mixtape is ending… Oh and love the xylophone or something ending the track :) Great, great, great job with this track !! So, I have to say a big thank you for my mixtape maker ! Most of the songs are quiet, some music I love to listen too ! What I liked was the originality of the tracks. One more time, this has pushed away the musical bounds I have, made me explore and dig some new ways to this kind of quiet music I always loved. I easily imagine myself listening it again and again, by night, to calm down or simply to think… Another great thing is that I didn’t know any of the songs, although I recognized 2 artist. I’m really looking forward to discover more of these bands ! Thank you again, unknown mixtape maker ! Impatient to know who you are :p

The 5th Mixtape Exchange (Tapes In First Post)
Hi everybody! So, berrywoman, this is my tape!! So glad you reviewed it, thank you so much! And yeah, better late than never, obviously :) First of all, that's too bad you didn't listened to the tracks in order because I tried to makes them fit together... Anyway, I know this is entirely my fault because I didn't tag the track numbers... I screwed up, I'm really sorry!!! I tried to put all the kind of music I listen to and that influenced me during years. I'm glad you reviewed it honestly! And the mark you gave to it really pleased me!! So here we go, with one of my favourite jazzman, Grover Washington Jr. and the song "Come Morning", 1981. I really love this tune, I discovered it on a vinyl I bought 2 months later, I like to listen to it to relax. And yeah, that's great for a background music :) 2), which is track 10 in my tape, is from a french band called Cocoon. It's a duet, a man and a woman. They sing in english and this song is called "Take Off". Haha I love "creepy yet happy sounding" ! They use uke in their songs which I think make them sound "happy". 3) (track 11) is VCR from the excellent UK band The XX! I love them so much! My favourite album from 2009 so far! Saw them last week in Paris, they're awesome! Well, this song is one of my favourite in the album. I love Oliver's voice (especially his first sentence) and bass line on this song. In all of their songs we can say that everything just fits very well, and there's never something too much... Glad you enjoyed it! Hey hey! 4) (track 12) is the most risky choice I made for this mixtape: putting a song from a french rap/hip hop band! It's a very famous band who kind of brought hip hop music in France in a popular way in the 90's. It's the band from Marseille (south of France) called "I AM". The song is called "Nos Heures De Gloire" (our glory hours but you already knew that, right :p) and explains their story and memories. It's from their fifth studio album. I chose it because it's one of their soft tracks and I really love the piano. I completely understand you didn't get into it :) But I'm glad I put it anyway to give this song a chance to be appreciated, I wanted to cross some frontiers I guess :) 5) (track 13) is from Dan Black, who left The Servant to make a solo carrier. His album is an "electro-pop-rock" one and this song, "Let Go" is one of the saddest one in the album. I really like his stuff but I noticed with people around me that Dan Black's music can deeply touch or not at all... It seems you are on the second side :) 6) (track 14) ... YES! You're absolutely right! Editors :) ! It's the acoustic version from "Papillon", a very electro song from the last album. I admit that I don't really like the last album, I prefer the second one, but Tom Smith's voice in this song is just outstanding! And the lyrics are so gorgeous... A sad tune though, I agree. I really love this version and I'm glad you liked it! 7) (track 15) isn't James Morrison but Jamie Lidell, from his first album. What I really like about this man, although I don't like all of his stuff, is his capacity of being so eclectic! I used to call him "the 'black-voiced' white man" lol! This track is pretty sad, it's called "Game For Fools", and really blues inspired as you say. 8) (track 16) This another sad tune is from Amos Lee, called "Colors", from his self titled first album. I've always enjoyed this song, which i find "relaxing", and his voice is really good. Didn't enjoyed that much the album though. 9) (track 17) is another french song, yes! Serge Gainsbourg, one of the most famous french singer here I think! A movie about his life has just been out. This song is called "Je Suis Venu Te Dire Que Je M'en Vais" (litterally, "I came to say I'm leaving") and was supposed to "close" my mixtape lol! It's about a break (you can hear the girl crying near the end) Haha yeah, no weak attempt of hip hop there, it's a quiet song from 1973. I especially enjoy the guitar riff all along the song, it blows me out. He's like a reference in french music, I love your expression "French Bowie" :D Glad you liked it, although it was in a foreign language! 10) (Track 18) was supposed to be the last song, to close the mixtape. I'm glad it made a nice interlude :) So, it's a short song from the irish and not famous at all band called The Devlins. This song is called "Metro" (you can hear the doors closing at the beginning) and is an instrumental one, from their second album. I've been really touched by this one the first time I heard it because, as you said it very well, there's no need of lyrics as the guitar tells the story. I'm really glad you enjoyed it! 11) (track 2) is from Db Clifford, a half french half english singer. It's called "About a Girl" and is from his first studio album. A summery tune as you say and reallly relaxing, my favourite of his album. He made this first album in 2006 (but it came out in 2008 in France) A thing that is really amazing about Db is that he made ALL this album on his own, at home. He plays piano, guitar, bass and drums. He arranged the hole thing. He's currently preparing his second one. 12) (track 3) ... Indeed, Corinne Bailey Rae, "Call Me When You Get This", first album... I think there's nothing left to say, you resumed it all by the words "Pure Poetry" ;) Glad you enjoyed! 13) (track 4) is indeed Jamiroquai, the "jazzy one", from the last album. One of my fav track on this album! I listen to him since I'm 8 and I really love how eclectic he is! But well, I agree with you cause it happens to me sometimes, you have to be on the mood to listen to his music :) 14) (track 5) is "700 houses" from Susan Tedeschi. I first listened to it in the O.R, during a hip replacement... Great memories ^^ Anyway, I really love her voice and this mix between a modern sounding and an "old school" style (the song is from 2008). I also recommend her first album "Back To The River" :) 15) (track 6) is "Eres" from Café Tacvba, a mexican band. I always loved this song (although I don't like this album) which always touches me but everytime I make my friends listen to it they don't like it  Anyway, I can easily understand that this song doesn't touch people :) 16) (track 7) is the second risk I took in this mixtape! So glad you liked it despite the language barrier!! It's called "L'indécision" (no need to translate right here I think :p) and it's from a french singer called "Da Silva". I have to say that in France, lots of new singers sound like CRAP and Da Silva is one of the rare singers/songwriters who has his own style and is not trying to be anyone else. His tracks are most of the time sad but well, that's him :) The song is about a break up (again :p) and basically he explains he has no regrets to leave. I'm really, really, glad you managed to enjoyed it! 17) (track 8) is a really sexy tune, yeah! Hugh Coltman, "On My Hands". My fav of his album! His voice is just so smooth and the guitar is so much touching! The album is great and varied too. I recommend it! Really glad you enjoyed it and want to discover more from him! 18) (track 9), so the last one for you! From the young Brett Dennen, a great californian singer (and not English as written on the first post, mea culpa). This song, "Desert Sunrise", is from his first album (he made 3 so far) and is my favourite from all his songs. I love his guitar playing on this one, his voice, and the mix between naivety, sincerity and simplicity of the lyrics and the message of this song. His voice is also original. All of these thing make of this song a really touching one which I love! His albums are really great! I hardly recommend them! Yeah, I have a lot of musical influences, I always try to discover new stuff or some old ones I missed! Music means so much for me and sharing is one of the things I love the most! So, you're welcome! And I can't thank you enough for reviewing my tape, and much more this honestly! I really loved your feedback!! I'm glad you discovered new stuff, that was my goal! Feel free to ask me anything you want about the artists, even more if you want me to send you some things, I'd be glad to :) Here's the tracklisting (it's on the first post but well, I'm gonna put it here too...) 1) Come Morning - Grover Washington Jr. - Come Morning – 1981 (USA) 2) About A Girl - DB Clifford - Recyclable - 2008 (France-UK) 3) Call Me When You Get This - Corinne Bailey Rae - Put Your Records On – 2006 (UK) 4) Tallulah - Jamiroquai - Dynamite – 2005 (UK) 5) 700 Houses - Susan Tedeschi - Back To The River – 2008 (USA) 6) Eres - Cafe Tacvba - Cuatro Caminos – 2003 (Mexico) 7) L'indécision - Da Silva - Décembre En Eté – 2006 (France) 8) On My Hands - Hugh Coltman - Stories From The Safe House – 2008 (UK) 9) Desert Sunrise - Brett Dennen - Brett Dennen – 2005 (USA) 10) Take Off - Cocoon - My Friends All Died In A Plane Crash – 2007 (France) 11) VCR - The XX - Self Titled – 2009 (UK) 12) Nos Heures De Gloire - IAM - Saison 5 – 2007 (France) 13) Let Go - Dan Black - Un – 2009 (UK) 14) Papillon (acoustic) - Editors – 2009 (UK) 15) Game For Fools - Jamie Lidell - Multiply – 2005 (UK) 16) Colors - Amos Lee - Amos Lee – 2004 (USA) 17) Je Suis Venu Te Dire Que Je M'en Vais - Serge Gainsbourg - Vu De L'extérieur – 1973 (France) 18) Metro - The Devlins - Consent – 2002 (Ireland) But well, you listened to it this way: And the link, for anyone who wants to give it a try :) http://hotfile.com/dl/26618289/e5cdca2/Mixtape.zip.html Again, I'm really sorry for this track problem :( But I'm glad it fitted anyway :) Oh and sorry for my english mistakes, it's hard sometimes to express myself in a right way...
