  4. 1. COL = Cemeteries of London 2. Indeed they are 5. I've heard about Epica. But still... 7. 60's? whoa, she's ahead of her time. 10. Hahaha :D My question is not how can you like Buble, but how can you like Buble AND Epica... I'm in no position to ask though, I like Enya and Audioslave :P 14. Sure we do, it's so feisty! 15. Man, I like them. 17. I never like him, and I never thought that it's him, and I like it. That's a long gap between your post and this reply... gosh, I need a life.
  5. Cresty!!! I miss you! And you too Laura.
  6. http://www.mediafire.com/?zzm5g0dmnzf I warn you, this may not be your type of music ;)
  7. Another review: Carla's 1. "It's been such a long day, followed by long nights" Track 1 left a good impression. Not great though. Hopefully the rest is as good (or better) 2. Track 2 is already better. The vocal is a heartbreaker. The female voice is at its place. Heavenly. Guitar riffs, bassline, rather simplistic drum. Interlude now. hmm.. expecting a nice surprise. Or is it outro? The lalala's are nice. The vocalist wailing high notes. Clashing cymbals. Offkey choir. Beautiful. 3. Oh such a great vocal duet. Ascending music too climax. Redoing again. Her voice reminds me of Cerys Matthews and Cindy Lauper. Lovely. 4. Drum line reminds me of Clocks. Strings arrangements reminds me of Elbow. "All things come, all things go" Why did he go to New York? A nice song indeed. Trumpet!!! I always melt by a perfectly placed brass. I found myself singing along this song. Ended by echoing ethereal choir. I already feel good. 5. Not my favourite but it is good anyway. The kind that I will love a year from now. I like the la-la-la part though. 6. Guitar! Vocal! Divine vocal at that. The bigger band peeking behind the curtain and showing up little by little. Atmospheric. His voice somehow reminds me of Dave Matthews, although the music is typically-atypical DMB. The change into Salsa-ish sound is distracting and somehow ruins it. The brass isn't actually a necessity either. But the string still caress my eardrums. 7. Hahaha, nice. A good musicality at that. A very addictive drum line. Piano knocing on my door. Like! 8. Promising intro. Drum line is cool. I'm not too happy with the vocal. Strange song, which is good. These guys got some music in their blood. 9. I swear I heard this before somewhere. The guitar riffs sounds so much like Kings of Leon. Hey, it is Kings of Leon. 10. Softly menacing intro. interesting lyric. The music isn't that interesting. 11. Very indie. (500) days of summer indie. An indie about not so everyday story with nice graphics and interesting insertion every other minute. This is how I perceive this one. 12. The Killer-esque. But I remember The Killer don't have such an annoying vocal. Musically likable. Wait, this must be The Killer  is it? :inquisitive: 13. Matchbox 20. Mad Season. 'nuff said 14. Wow, we picked the same song for Mixtape closing. Yeah, Carla. We are brilliant!!!! :smug: (but I notice it's quite different. Where's Bellamy?)
  8. I feel like reviewing. violetsparks 1. OMG, love track one. I always love track one. This time it comes with haunting female voice. Then rhythm ascends. Haunting, haunting riffs. Oh, her voice is magical. There, the official introduction of the rhythm section, faster tempo came along it him. Somewhat like COL. Love it! I need to know who they are (although I can easily check the track listing)! 2. Beirut? Still presents the same mood with the previous song. Hope the piano will be the only instrument through the whole song…. nope, here comes another one. And then there's a band. Not disappointing though. In fact, it is fantastic (what??? only for outro???) 3. Softy whispery vocals with guitars. The lyric is perhaps interesting. The vocal harmony is somehow distracting at some places, though great at other spots. Ooo piano. Wait, where's the piano again. The instruments started to grow in numbers. I didn't notice that they slowly building to forte. Dare I say that the whisper isn't sexy enough. 4. whoa, a surprise. Suddenly jumping mood. Cannot say that I like the idea though because I already sank in the hazy mood. I'm not saying that this track is bad, it's okay. forgettable. 5. Choir? what??? this reminds me of Tarja's album which was my biggest regret of all time. *here comes the vocal* Or maybe it's Tarja? 6. Guitar is nice. Chord sequence is nice. Vocal is promising. Oooohhh, I love this song. Like songs I would hear when I was little, or the songs that I can use to recollect my past. 7. Sounds familiar. A bit 90s-ish. A song that would perfectly accompany an indie movie. I can imagine finding this song in Juno soundtrack. I can even imagine Ellen Page sing this song. Ah, I feel good already. 8. why do you have to ruin my mood all the time. Tarja again?? No? Yes? either way  9. Woohoo. I like this. Reminds me of Japan. I don't know why. Japanese music is certainly not like this. Trumpet!!! Sexy bassline. Yummy like a piece of strawberry cream cheese cake. 10. Buble! Hahahaha. Totally unexpected. Very nice surprise indeed. I'm starting to question your taste :inquisitive: :laugh3: 11. Pop? Owl City?? Sounds so bubblegummy. Like no real instrument. It is a good enough song, it will be memorable in your mixtape but forgettable in history of music. 12. Horror-like piano. Similar mood to first 3 tracks. Regina? Regina!! lovelovelovelovelove. Hallelujah!! 13. Guitar and atmospheric wailing, interesting…. Look!! I gave you 3 facepalms. You gave me 3 facepalmic songs!! Well, at least this time I want to listen to the lyric. 14. Dance!:dance::dance: Whoa! Dance with guitar riffs :dance::dance: Hey! Dance with vomiting vocalist :dance::dance: Oooh! Dance with Oooh Oooh's!!:dance::dance: Damn! Dance with solo guitar!!:dance::dance: 15. I'm quite concerned that this kind of goodish intro will lead to a beyond belie cheesy song. "you are the new day". Well so far so good. Until the end it's good *i'm greatly relieved 16. Oh so American song. That's already not my type. He cannot deny his Americanness. Oh he was betrayed… poor him. Whoa, down boy… and your obsession to the word "first" 17. :laugh3::lol::laugh4: A very, very fun closing. "Virus Alert!!" Over all 4:facepalm:s, 3 in a bad way, 1 in a good way
  9. I've been thinking about this for a long time, glad someone voiced it
  10. YES!!! Support Shearwater!!!!! And Elbow!!! She's amazing, isn't she? Her latest album was just surprising. I have all of her previous album and was very excited for The Fall. And when I got it...:heart::heart: Do you like it? I love it. It's rare that I like local music :P
  11. I got a review, I love you :kiss::kiss: now why can't I multiquote  1. Enya - Deireadh An Tuath (The Celts, 1992) It's in Irish Gaelic. 2. Suede - Everything Will Flow (Head Music, 1999) I like 90s music, this is one of them. I don't see country though. Maybe it's because I already know that they are British. 3. Norah Jones - Young Blood (The Fall, 2009) Nope, not KT Tunstall, it's Norah Jones. Can you believe how much she transforms?? She's so good in this album. This song is kind of folk meets rock and roll with I-don't-know-what-the-hell-is-she-talking-about lyrics, using vampire and werewolves metaphor and all. 4. Inva Mula-Tchako - Il Dolce Suono (Lucia di Lammermoor)/The Diva Dance (The Fifth Element: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, 1997) I can't believe you recognise this song :o:o:o I'm so in LOVE with this one. Great, great performance by Inva Mula. I was kind of disappointed when I learned that digital alteration had been performed in order to let such composition be possible. But it was to be expected since the composition is simply to crazy for human voice. 5. Anda - Tentang Seseorang (Ada Apa Dengan Cinta?: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, 2002) This isn't a happy go lucky song, it's a love song, a desperate-ish one, sang in Indonesian. Indonesian music is crappy, shitty, tacky... you name it! This is one of the better. It's a number from a movie called "Ada Apa Dengan Cinta?" (What's Up With Love?). I don't like the movie :D. 6. Martika - Love, Thy Will Be Done (Martika's Kitchen, 1991) Believe it or not this is the first song that I fell in like on the first sight (yes, sight!), and it was 5 years ago. I saw the video on MTV and simply fell for it. I don't know why, it's certainly not the most well composed or well written or well produced song in anything but I just like it. I like her soothing alto (although I get annoyed by the shooting high-pitched voices ). 7. Enya - Eclipse (On My Way Home Single, 1996) This song is actually a mirrored song of Deireadh An Tuath (a.k.a. Track 1). She didn't only do flipping the song but she re-compose the song and recorded it again so that it sounds like a reversed Track 1. Similar to backmasking, but not actually backmasking. And this song acts as the mirror of the whole mixtape :devilish: 8. Elbow - Weather To Fly (The Seldom Seen Kid, 2008) This one mirrors Track 6. This time it's Guy Garvey's soothing baritone accompanied by high pitched voices of I'm-not'sure-who-but-I-believe-it's-also-him. This time the high pitched voices don't annoy me. You should get their album, it's awesome. They opened for Coldplay, and they kicked VLVODAAHF butt at the Brit with this album. Even Coldplay praise them. They are THAT good. 9. Deep Forest featuring Anggun - Deep Blue Sea (Music Detected, 2002) No, Anggun is a woman. And no, it's Indonesian, thus mirrors Track 5. This is the best song ever written in Indonesian. They captured the essence of Indonesian traditional music in melody and incorporate it in all modern music. This is soooooooooooo Indonesian. The most sad, baffling, and embarassing fact about this song is that it was composed by two French guys (Deep Forest) :wtf: 10. Sarah Brightman - Eden (Eden, 1998) This actually is a cover of a song with the same title by Hooverphonic. I picked this song because it mirrors track 4. While Il Dolce Suono is a more traditional classical piece (although sprinkled with a BIG twist at the end) this song uses Classical (okay, not actually classical) in a whole modern (90s) music. I like this better than the original one. 11. Shearwater - Century Eyes (Rook, 2008) The claimed themselves as folk band. I don't think they are that much of a folk band. They're just an awesome band which never got the appreciation that they deserve. I first got to know this band from the last Mixtape exchange (oh, this thing is a blessing) from burningmonk. I immediately fell in love. Their upcoming album "The Golden Archipelago" is due to release at 02/18 worldwide and 02/25 in USA. Get them!!!! They're nothing like Kaiser Chief, they are very different, although I can see where you're coming from. It's funny because I can't stand Kaiser Chief while I really, really, really LOVE this band. 12. Muse - Exogenesis: Symphony: Part 3 (Redemption) (The Resistance, 2009) Don't play it in iTunes, I don't know why it never works (iTunes sucks, everything else rocks!!!). As you might have expected, this one mirrors Track 2 in a way that it sports a heavy use of strings. Muse rocks!!! Muse classics!!! Whatever!!!! 13. Enya - Dan Y Dŵr (The Celts, 1992) Yep, it's her again. It's actually uses the same melody as Track 1. The only difference is the lyric (and the song length). This one is in Welsh. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Oh, I'm so glad you didn't slaughter me with words. I don't know what I would do without you (now that is over the top) This playlist is not actually the playlist I wanted to be. I realised that it needs some slight reordering after I uploaded it and PM'd TheEscapist. Anyway here you are. 1. Enya - Deireadh An Tuath (The Celts, 1992) 2. Suede - Everything Will Flow (Head Music, 1999) 3. Norah Jones - Young Blood (The Fall, 2009) 4. Inva Mula-Tchako - Il Dolce Suono (Lucia di Lammermoor)/The Diva Dance (The Fifth Element: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, 1997) 5. Anda - Tentang Seseorang (Ada Apa Dengan Cinta?: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, 2002) 6. Martika - Love, Thy Will Be Done (Martika's Kitchen, 1991) 7. Enya - Eclipse (On My Way Home Single, 1996) 8. Elbow - Weather To Fly (The Seldom Seen Kid, 2008) 9. Deep Forest featuring Anggun - Deep Blue Sea (Music Detected, 2002) 10. Sarah Brightman - Eden (Eden, 1998) 11. Shearwater - Century Eyes (Rook, 2008) 12. Muse - Exogenesis: Symphony: Part 3 (Redemption) (The Resistance, 2009) 13. Enya - Dan Y Dŵr (The Celts, 1992) http://www.mediafire.com/?zzm5g0dmnzf
  12. Thank you  I will download all mixtapes (that is not from rapidshare) at the end of the session.
  13. Page 2???? Are you kidding me? Are you kidding him? where's the willuv???
  14. http://www.mediafire.com/?zzm5g0dmnzf I'm begging for a review now... :rolleyes4:  :sad2: :rolleyes5: :disappointed: :wtf:  :whatever: (you guys should get a puppy-eyes smiley, seriously)
  15. I'm so sad my mixtape hasn't been reviewed yet :( I'll just post the playlist and link soon.
  16. My person hasn't been online for almost 2 weeks :(
  17. Oh, you already posted. I wanted to do a slight revision on number 7. Because it is not bland. It's actually exciting. High detail here and there, mixed fashionably. I didn't quite catch this at first because I was playing it through loudspeakers. Once listened to it through earphone, the magic revealed. I personally love track number 6, Bombay Bicycle Club. Gonna search for them. Thanks, and sorry for the trouble :)
  18. After panic hours and being a burden for The Escapist, I churned a review out. So, let's cut to the chase: 1. What a quirky song. A great way to start a mixtape. I like the whole ensemble. All the instruments mashed up almost randomly. Gets me excited! 2. Ooh, slow. But the vocal a bit disappointing. It grew in me though. Actually this is a very nice song. Although it's somehow a bit strange to have such a ballad for second track. A very, very moody song. It has this certain atmosphere around it. 3. Exactly the song I would expect in such mixtape exchange. The intro caught me a little. But the highlight is that gauzy guitar riff at the chorus. I like it. 4. Is this song supposed to cheer you up? If it is then it doesn't work on me. This song a little bit boring. Maybe only because it's a follow up to track 3 which I really like. They don't sound special. It's like Bittersweet Symphony gone wrong (don't know why I compare it to that song, but that's how I feel) 5. Wild! A perfect remedy. It's so… wild!! How did the drummer survive the song??? WILD!!! 6. Good intro. I got a bit disappointed when the vocal arrived. But the chorus promises something good. Oh wait! It changed! Oo… very interesting..... Oooo........... Aaahhh..... 7. A bit bland. There's been a handful of such song in this mixtape already. Maybe it's actually interesting, but it didn't get into me. 8. Is this Beirut? I've never really listen to them but their music matches people's description of Beirut. Really, really nice. One of my favourite. 9. Unexceptional. 10. This song got a bad initial response from me. The musician chose a generic chord sequence for the intro. Well, that generic chord sequence goes all through the song. It's quite much a pop song, seeps into me very easily. I normally like female vocalists. Maybe that's why I can get this song easily. Maybe it takes time to soak through my head. 11. I love this. The kind of song that reminds me of my past. It has those nice little details too. A bit long for the song itself, but I don't mind. My mind wanders. 12. He sang as if he was going to vomit. 13. Second remedy of the day. Love it. Although I don't really agree with their way to finish the song, you know, with all those drums and guitars. Learn from Johnny Cash, boy! 14. Regina Spektor! 15. Long, and I like it better when he don't sing. 16. Final track. At first I thought that the song isn't suitable because it could be more… grand! But after a while I can see that this is a good choice indeed. a good ol' achy-breaky song. A nice wrap up. Good job MrNick!
