The 9th Mixtape Exchange
Sure I watch NGE. It's AWESOME!!! Though the ending is mentally ill Imma avoid them like plague NOOO!!!! Okay, I'm going to keep my fantasy of 3 Tom Hardys rapping in french She's officially my wife now. Seriously. This song sounds like the kind which if The Ting Tings covers it would sound like it's their original song. Then you should check BOBBY ;) The song contradicts the band name  Definitely the kind of music I've been listening lately. The sounded catchy, and they got you lured, and you listen to them, and then the got you bored. That's why I've been trying to be more critical lately. But alas I failed :disappointed: I remember the days when I used to listen to J-Pop and J-Rock  Where did that person go :| To date I only listen to OK Go while watching their video. Basically I just wanted to see what would they do next. Oftentimes it distracted me from actually listening to their music. I should start now. I have like 2 other Andrew Bird songs, and those are #greatandstrangeidontreallyknowwhattosaybutithasthatkindofquality (sorry about the hashtag :shame:) yeah so far it's te strangest mixtape I've received. you...:dozey:

The 9th Mixtape Exchange
Hi mixtape maker. I'm sorry for my lateness. Well I'm not really sorry since you were late. YOU should be sorry :dozey: (just kidding) (no I'm not) I was quite amused with what you did with the file naming it's creative and cute  however and :dozey::dozey::dozey: at least you gave me a heads up :) :dozey: now off to the real review I intentionally delayed the review because I want to listen to it several more times, to let me love or hate or feel totally indifferent about the songs. 01 (japan is great) The file name drew me a vision on this song's whatness. I imagine this would be the grand opening song to a full length feature film anime. There would be a feisty albeit somewhat clumsy not-so-little girl blessed with naivety, curiosity and fighting spirit, who discoevered a new place which peaked her interest. Probably an old and well kept castle where she would train to be the best servant ever. Or whatever. I didn't love the song. But nevertheless a cute way to open a mixtape. I would prefer a darkish composition if you know what I mean. 02 (you had better like this one, or I'll be mad) I think you can't help but to be mad. I'm not really a fan of this one. I couldn't really put my finger on this one. I think there's absolutely no prominent strings of melodies worthy to be featured or lead the whole instrumental piece. That is, alas and woe, the consequence of how modern music progresses. It sounds mewlike though :D 03 (it's okay if you don't like this one) What language is this? French? I'm not saying that this song is bad, it's only that I don't know the ingredients that makes a rap music special. I don't know what to say. I mean I COULD search the artist by extracting the information from the residue from the file (which is the album artwork). But I can tell you my vision. I imagine there are a group of guys, maybe 2 or 3. They are not "pure" musicians. Probably actors who wanted to break in or, more likely, to have some fun by having a new endeavour. The video for this one would feature the guys which are so cute it's stupid acting so stupid it's cute. If they're not cute, please don't tell me who the artist is. Please. Please. Pretty please. 04 (but not okay if you don't like this one) I'm not going to dislike it. I LOVE IT. I already knew it was Janelle Monae from the album artwork. And I know it's Tightrope from listening. Man, this girl knows how to deliver. I mean I don't like funk, but this girl just soooo irresistible I can't help but carry on listening. She got soul, and it shows. And she gote some sexy killer style. I'm gonna marry her. 05 (this one won't let me put mixtape for like all the data, so I'm not just a lazy bum, except for how it took me so long to make this.) Deerhunter - Flourescet Grey. The repetitious chrd progression reminds me of The Ting Tings. I know it's a long, long, long shot. But you have to admit that the one could remind you of the other one. I kinda like it. Especially when it reached the swishy-as-the-slurpy section. No, actually I love that part so much. That drumline, so prominently-not-prominently simplistic, is perfectly perfect. I know I repeatedly repeat my words. But I don't care to care. 06 (or this one. I'm basically a terrible person) Again I don't know what to say here. The whole sound reminds me of a band which 1 song that I have I love so much. The band called BOBBY, the song called Sore Spores. But it's not them. (are songs sovunoriginal now?) I fell in love on the first tingle of audio stimuli. The intro is like a slow orgasm. But then WTF man?? It's like you just came and then you immediately went fucking in full speed again, not reaching to anymore orgasm. I use fucking as an analogy because this song actually is fucking good. It's just that the sequence is so fucking wrong. 07 (DEE DEE DEE) This is yet another instrumental piece. Which I thought a repeat of the unimpressive Track 2. But then the whole aura is different. It's so... jolly. So not Mew-like. This one is like what Sufjan Stevens will be if you kill his angst, darkness and compulsion. All jolliness and instruments mash-up, Mixd in a blender with banana and grapes. Yes, this one can put in all the distortion and noises he/she/they/it can get but the song is still cute. 08 (dee dee dee) Wild guess: Metric? "New York in the center of the 1st world layed out before us, who are we to break down?". I don't know, I only heard metric once, from that Scott Pilgrim sound track, the vocalist has that Sheryl Crow-esque quality to her voice. Anyhoo. This song is highly piano driven pop song, despite there are some parts of which the piano were not played. I kinda feel indifferent with this one, but this is obviously the kind that will strike me from the back out of nowhere at an unxpected time and make me hum it. 09 (japan is REALLY great) Definitely the low point of the mixtape for me. Do you know that the third to last song of an album or a mixtape, excluding bonus track, is the most important part of an album or a mixtape. It's because the penultimate song is definitely WILL be a good song. The last song can be bad because usually musicians choose their favourite song to close an album and leave a great impression to the listener, however they tend to pick a polarizing song as their favourite; but it still wouldn't change the listener's opinion of the whole thing. But the third to last song is where people tend to slip. If the third to last song is OK then the whole ending will be forgetable, if it's good then the ending will be the awesomest of awesome, but if it's bad then the whole ending is a disaster. Of course I just made the whole thing up, even though it sounds arguably logical. I just disliked the song and I wanted to tickle your ego for a bit :P 10 (so I'm sorry this took me so long to make and how I basically just threw everything together but I'm really sorry okay. sadddd) Arcade Fire? No??????? The whole chord progression and time signature screams Rococo. Both of them definitely walks the same road. I love this song. So much :dazzled: I don't want to say anyting more but I LOVE IT. 11 (goodbye, fair mixtape partner. also, I'm sorry I couldn't delete like any of the album artwork. and that it was so late. please forgive me.) My first impression is "is this in English?" I'm still not sure. I can decipher English words, but most parts are just gibberish to me. But the song is great though. I love the acoustic feel. Even the whistling didn't make it corny. What made it corny is that female backing vocal voice. I think the only way to make it not corny with a female backing vocal is by having Emilia Torrini singing for him. Yes, that's the only way. Nonetheless, it's a lovely, lovely, lovely song. I like the mixtape. The flow is kinda wonky, the songs are great. My favourites are 4, 5, and 10. It ended like a disaster though, since you made a miss at the third from last song. See, I'm still sticking to my make believe theory :laugh3:. Relax, I'm just kidding (no I'm not)

Adele
I like Haley! To each its own :shame: I like Paul McDonald though, he's the kind of guy I'll buy record from. Btw, Haley sang Adele's Rolling in the Deep. Nobody should ever do that. Ever. Again, EVER. Period. Btw, I would love to hear Amy, Adele and Duffy to trade songs and sing medley. Amy sings Duffy's Warwick Avenue, Duffy sings Adele's Chasing Pavements, Adele sings Amy's Love is A Losing Game. Yum. :dazzled:

New Coldplay eh?
The lyric is as good as devil's turd. Okay, that's a lil bit harsh. But it's just really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really bad. Artwork is not offensive, IMO, but then again it is not appealing as well. Fashion statement is great. It's just so.... normal. Much less gimmick. I like it. Especially in the era of the gagas and keshas. It's just do refreshing to find something that is so ordinary. And I'm not being sarcastic.

The 9th Mixtape Exchange
That's my mixtape. YAY!!! The theme is female musicians and/or vocalists. I wanted to do this theme for quite a while now, but never managed to find the right songs. My latest purchase somehow made this possible. The sub theme (well not a sub theme) is eerie sounds, unsettling vibes, incongruous atmosphere, bla bla bla yadda yadda yadda. You get what I mean :P Scarlett Johansson - Town With No Cheer This album is so amazing and amazingly underrated. There's no bad song in this album imho Cibo Matto - Sugar Water I have a crush on this song since I was little. I like their accent, makes the song even more strange. You should see the video, directed by Michael Gondry who brought us some of Björk's video, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and the why-the-hell-did-he-do-it Green Hornet. Sade - Slave Song Yeah, quasijazz artist in this mixtape. Just coz... Björk - Ancestors Yeah, I wanted to put this song to a mixtape for sooooo long. Now I finally have the chance. This song features Tanya Tagaq, an Inuit throat singer. Adiemus - Chorale VI (Sol-Fa)/Cantus-'Song of Aeolus' I'm not sure if this one is in any language. I think it's just gibberish sounds. I'll have to do more research. I loooove this song since my teacher in University taught us about composition. This song is one of the song in her mixtape she didn't let us hear that time. But she gave us the mixtape in the end anyway. Robyn - Jag Vet En Dejlig Rosa It's very strange of Robyn to sing this kind of song in the Body Talk series. But it kind of make sense if you listen to the album(s). It's a traditional Swedish song or something. Robert Plant and Alison Krauss - Trampled Rose It's a country song!!! I'm not sure where Robert Plant is in this song, perhaps it's only Alison Krauss here. This album is rad!!! 08. Broken Social Scene - Anthems For A Seventeen Year Old Girl Yes, you're correct. I heard this song from Scott Pilgrom vs. The World Soundtrack. This is my favourite piece, aside frome some Sex Bob-Omb silly tracks lol. Norah Jones - Not My Friend Just remember. She can do alot of things. Side note: Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi, featuring Jack White and Norah Jones released an album called Rome. GO GET IT NOW!! Shearwater - South Col Basically this one is just noise :laugh4: Emily Browning - Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) Sucker Punch Soundtrack. I found the movie fantastic. Looking back, I think it wasn't that good. The soundtrack gave 20 extra points. Enya - Pax Deorum This is another song that I've been trying to fit into my mixtape. This time I made it. Sarah Brightman - La Wally Yep, another song that I've been pushing. I imagine this song being sung by a queen of darkness, in some place that resembles hell, from the balcony of her huge castle, to her people, giving them a goodnight and a hope that she will lead them to rule the world. Of course that is not what the song is about. Awww, thanks :) I appreciate it. Here's my mixtape: http://www.mediafire.com/?j2krjd66db7fwdx Tracklisting: 01. Scarlett Johansson - Town With No Cheer 02. Cibo Matto - Sugar Water 03. Sade - Slave Song 04. Björk - Ancestors 05. Adiemus - Chorale VI (Sol-Fa)/Cantus-'Song of Aeolus' 06. Robyn - Jag Vet En Dejlig Rosa 07. Robert Plant and Alison Krauss - Trampled Rose 08. Broken Social Scene - Anthems For A Seventeen Year Old Girl 09. Norah Jones - Not My Friend 10. Shearwater - South Col 11. Emily Browning - Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) 12. Enya - Pax Deorum 13. Sarah Brightman - La Wally

not really. but imagine an album or a compilation. if it's too short, you'll demand more. if it's too long, you'll be exhausted.

I'm in. I think this should be ME 8.5, since it's so close to the last one and, assuming from the due dates, this was targeted for less participants.

Is this everything? (or Help! I need something new.)
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3SEJSK_jqg]Bjork - The Comet Song[/ame] how about that. She's the queen of strange. I wanted to post her song called Ancestors, but I couldn't find the any video with the whole song in youtube. I have similar frustration. We are in the era where music is being controlled by chord progressions and all the same beat. I haven't learned about Bjork's composing methods yet, but from listening to her music, she's somewhat free from beat and chords. She's all about melody and lyric. Seems like she will find the chords later. Either that or she incorporates everything all at the same time. I honestly don't know. You can also try Nattura, Declare Independence, or Unravel; maybe you'll get what I mean.

Jennifer Hudson
Speaking of which, American Idol is a bad career making agent. just sayin'. Well, Jenifer Hudson was far from winning but she's really successful now, and where is Fantasia? This season is good in terms of voices but bad in terms of result shows.
