  1. princesanji, I'm thinking colophony is the same thing is what rosin in here? It serves as a 'grabber' that keeps the bow hair to the string, just like you put chalk on a pool/billiard stick, or gymnists/baseball players/rock climbers put rosin on the hands. Anyone playing a guitar with a bow is doing something out of the ordinary, so I'm guessing the proper grip isn't so complex. But you never know. I only know how to hold a violin bow...
  2. Hmmm... I can't really hear the notes but it might be a bridge to Gnossienne No. 1 by Erik Satie, or that piece sped up. Not quite sure. And it most certaintly isn't postcards... http://coldplay.com/oracledetail.php?id=433&page=
  3. Music nots has both versions. You have to buy them, but you can print out the first page free to try it out and see which version you like best. You'll also have to install a music notes viewer, completely safe and I love this company. I pay for it, print it out at home, and BAM you have yourself some great music. They also have free blank staff music which is nice. http://search.musicnotes.com/?q=lovers+in+japan&search_id=Top&hl=n
  4. Ah, yeah, you should definately look into getting an actual piano. I love the feel of one compared to a keyboard. I don't know about you, but we have a piano store thats going out of business :( so now's the time to get a good deal on one in this ecconomy. Oooo, I'll check out the two songs you mentioned. I love Vivaldi, but have only played his works on violin. And hey, at least you can sing! I have to incorperate the melody into the actual music since no one want to hear me sing. haha.
  5. Well, I'm working on Sonatina in C by Kuhlau, pretty fun. :) I'm also working on my own Coldplay medley. I want to record it, but first gotta gte my pianoi tunned, it's been too long, almost a half step off, yuck!
  6. Welcome, and have fun!
  7. Welcome. :) Good to meet ya.
  8. Gallardo, thanks! I'll try that out later.
  9. Thanks, haha. Yeah, Life goes On is super cathcy. My orchestra director sat down one dya and started playing it unconsiously, and he said, what IS this? I was like, it's my stop motion 'soundtrack!'hehe. Oh goodness Lhuna, I didn't realize I hat so many hats. I have a big tub filled with old costumes(and headwear) that's been in my family for awhile. I'm considering doing a sequel, 50 (More) Hats, but I'd need to borrow some for that one!
  10. Hey fellow pianist! I agree, I'd love to play by ear better. Any favorite classical composers?

Well, after a thread search, it doesn't look like anyone has posted a stop moiton (other then Coldplay's amazing chalk one!~Strawberry Swing) so I thought I'd post two favorites I have made in the past. Definately not made on as grand of a scale, but I think they're alright. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZNrPig3dag&feature=channel_page]YouTube - The Troublesome Stool-A Stop Motion Video[/ame] The facebook version has the original music, so if you can, I prefer this version, if not go to the video below.: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoY12UsYm-o]YouTube - 50 Hats[/ame] The original music to 50 hats was really great, but unfortunately it was muted for copyright infrigement. And I have yet to find any way to contact Nicholas Hooper, the composer of Harry Potter ATOOTP, who wrote the song. Highly unlikely that that's going to happen, so I choose another instense string piece.
  12. Thanks for the warm welcome, you guys! :)
  13. Oh NEVER EVER consider messing with the keys. You could mess up the reaction (the hammer area) and ruin your piano in general. I'm pretty sure you can buy pianos in 'reverse color.' I also think it looks cool, here's a keyboard example, but it says it's no longer available: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/543482-REG/Korg_MICROKORGBK_microKORG_37_Key_Synthesizer_Vocoder_Reverse_Color.html Here's one I've never seen before, it has both color combinations: http://keyboards-midi.musiciansfriend.com/product/Hammond-XK3c-Drawbar-Organ?sku=703103 If you're serious, I'd ask your piano tuner about it. Here's a beautiful one undergoing restoration: http://www.frederickcollection.org/Anon1790.htm Wiki isn't the greatest source but they say, "Many keyboard instruments dating from before the nineteenth century, such as harpsichords and pipe organs, have a keyboard with the colours of the keys reversed: darker coloured keys for the white notes and white keys for the black notes. A few electric and electronic instruments from the 1960s and subsequent decades have also done this" source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_keyboard

Well, Hello! I've stumbled across this place a few times, and finally decided to join. I'm a pianist/violinist/photographer/film-maker, and hope to major in photography and film. (I'm still in high school.) But yeah, I love Coldplay, (duh, why else would I be here?) and hope to have some fun here. :D Oh, and I go by Lexa on forums.
