If I bought a pocket watch would it make me a dick?
Haha Well as you can tell I'm quite the connoisseur! You should post a pic of yours.

I've just bid on the last one. They look different on my screen... Maybe I'm blind haha.

I'd have to go for a cheapo mass produced one since money is tight and it's an unnecessary purchase. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-MENS-VINTAGE-SLIVER-CASE-CHAIN-QUARTZ-POCKET-WATCH-/220755107754?pt=UK_Jewellery_Watches_Pocket_Watches_Accessories_ET&hash=item3366079faa#ht_9759wt_952 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Antique-Silver-White-Mens-Quartz-Pocket-Watch-Chain-29-/320672642747?pt=UK_Jewellery_Watches_Pocket_Watches_Accessories_ET&hash=item4aa99436bb#ht_9700wt_952 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-CLASSIC-MECHANICAL-SILVER-MENS-POCKET-WATCH-CHAIN57-/220756179552?pt=UK_Jewellery_Watches_Pocket_Watches_Accessories_ET&hash=item336617fa60#ht_7325wt_952 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1700s-Style-Mens-Mechanical-Pocket-Watch-Gifts-Chain-/390372993651?pt=UK_Jewellery_Watches_Pocket_Watches_Accessories_ET&hash=item5ae40b2a73#ht_6357wt_1006

And I'm getting too old to be getting away with that kind of stuff if I was doing it just to be cool haha.

Maybe I'll put it in some air tight thing so it won't die.

Because I'm not yet convinced I'm sold on the idea yet. And because sometimes there is a reason you care what other people think. I'm all for not following the crowd but it's impossible to completely ignore other people, no matter how much people pretend they do. I know if I saw somebody with a pocket watch I'd presume they were doing it for attention and were a dick. I'd rather people not think that of me if it means all I have to do is not make an unnecessary purchase. But then, I kinda want one.

I don't like wrist watches. Not a fan of having things on my body for too long. I'm always the first to take my festival bracelets off.

Because it'd be something a dick would do to be different. Except I kinda like the idea and I don't like wrist watches and I'm bored of getting my phone or iPod out all the time.

Radiohead
Artwork looks good. Hmm, how much do you guys think my unopened TKOL special addition stuff will be worth in the future? I've asked this before and I apologise but I forgot what was said. I was hoping for over £100 in say five years. I paid like £35 or something and it has the potential to be one of the rarer albums given it's low key release.

Beck
I kinda wish I could have got into him when I was about 18. I was brought up on him so it seemed kind of natural for a person to be able to mix up all the stuff he manages to. I can't help but think it would have blown my mind even more if I'd had a more sheltered musical upbringing.

Or would I likely get confused as somebody who is a dick? Or would it be ok? Discuss if you wish. No comedy poll answers so fuck off internet kids.

Future Legends of Music
There has almost certainly been a thread like this before. I may have even made it haha. I'm talking bands or artists who have released a consistent decent volume of work, or who have defined a generation with seminal albums or have been pioneers and have been at the forefront of a shift in mainstream or alternative mainstream musical genres. You know, people who will really be remembered and rediscovered by future generations. When I was younger I found it impossible to think we'd have people like Bowie or the Beatles or anybody who released so many albums (since I was into a lot of indie stuff at an earlier stuff and their shelf lives tend to be quite short) or even managed to achieve success after such a radical evolution of sound. Strictly restricted to the bands I like or liked I'm gonna say: Radiohead Beck Bjork Aphex Twin Daft Punk Gorillaz The Libertines The Strokes Kings Of Leon (unfortunately they won't be remembered for their good stuff) The White Stripes Arcade Fire Boards Of Canada Massive Attack Portishead Beastie Boys I think people with a decent enough interest in music from the past will have at least heard of the vast majority of those people in the future. Some of those bands might not be appreciated for quite some time but I feel they are some who will be noted as having made a change or big contribution to the previous decade and current music. What are your views. And Coldplay will obviously be remembered so chill out.

Beck
He'll be remembered within the right circles for a long time I hope. I really think he'll become a legend. Consistently releasing at least good albums since his very first when he was meant to be a one hit wonder. When he's done, in a few decades people will see just how much he created and just how varying and genre bending it all was.

What have you learned today?
Well according to my new west German colleague German and English girls are awful but the Germans are useful if you want a gang bang and start at about 13. Hmmm

What have you learned today?
Cool. I learned this too.

A Godless Universe
Fair enough, though that's not what the thread intended to question. I personally find such musings to be very important to my creative thinking when taking into other aspects within my life such as rational and logical thinking.

A Godless Universe
Thanks :) Well I'm keen for the thread to develop and branch out but I'm wary of it just turning into a thread picking holes in things. I hope it becomes a thread of developing peoples theories instead, though there are several posts within the thread so far which have interested me greatly which I could add very little to due to my own lack of intelligence in the area of discussion.

A Godless Universe
Religion has given us plenty, though it has taken away a great deal too. It's unquantifiable to work out how much the affect has been in contrast to a total absence of religion. Certain areas of art and architecture have thrived under religion.

A Godless Universe
I like this. I do often think that we see ourselves as aliens trying to master the planet and maybe some day the universe, when in fact we are ourselves the universe and it is deep within us. When people lose grasp of this and concentrate their very being on illusionary ideals then that is when they leave themselves susceptible to unhappiness and in turn have the potential to spread that unhappiness to a large amount of others. That is not a call for people to live purely as a part of the universe and completely ignore more materialistic concepts, it's simply me hoping that people will focus on more fulfilling ventures both towards themselves and the human race as a whole and at the same time embrace some of societies materialistic quirks if they wish. I'm enjoying reading different peoples replies on this thread. What people have understood my thread to be getting at, their views on the universe and their views on religion, society and God(s). Just to clarify the thread was not me saying 'There is definitely no God' or 'Why believe in God?', but instead to attempt to provide a hypothetical situation in which a Godless universe could exist whilst also directly responding to the claim that the universe is proof of God's existence used by some people. I'm leaning much more towards the religious perceptions of a God admittedly i.e creator and conscious divinity. The reason I made this thread was to further develop the theory on the matter as (as you can see) I did not explain myself too clearly in my original ramblings and I have yet to incorporate all angles into it. Your contributions will develop my understanding of the theory though, so thank you.

A Godless Universe
Ah yes, this is why I put in the bit about questioning the point of discussing likelihood in this, as we are leaving everything open to possibility. It wouldn't matter which was more likely, as long as something was remotely likely.
-
A Godless Universe
I agree that I cannot see these things being discovered.
-
A Godless Universe
No, I'm saying that if it is possible for there to be a God in this universe who created it then it is possible for there not to be a God in this universe. Whether you would classify something coming from nothing as 'God' is another matter, but I'm referring to a conscious God who is acting on something, rather than developing through sheer chance. And there is nothing wrong with being a good person, of course. I'd have to discuss in a different thread about religion and how people don't need it to be good yet it has so many detrimental affects on our planet and human societies etc, not here.

A Godless Universe
Incidentally just because a question is perceived as unanswerable it does not mean that it should not be explored. There's is so much else to gain in other areas by looking into it. Edit: I find a God with gender hard to fathom.

A Godless Universe
Sure is. Thanks for the contribution too. Though provoking/fucking stuff. More so than the new Coldplay album.
