Modern R&B, which adhering to typical pop melodies and structure, tends to deal with redundant subject matter in vague ways. Every song, from the periphery, seems like a love song that uses colorful language to describe the same ending goal. As such, it turns a lot of people off, making the beauty of the genre inaccessible or hidden from a lot of fans. In that wasy, it's much like Rap or Country music, where the overt subverts the inert.

That's pretty much what I think of him: A few songs I really like (I Believe I can Fly, Ignition, Down Low) but his style of R&B isn't my thing. I much prefer Maxwell or Wusiq ... crooners who come from the Marvin Gaye school.
