  1. Coldplay, I can honestly say, changed my life. I'm currently 18 years old and I live in the United States, just for some simple background. I was far too young when Parachutes or AROBTTH came out to understand what real music was. I recall my best friend in elementary school telling something about how his dad was claiming he found a new break through artist after listening to their album, which I found out years later was Coldplay. Anyway, my family is from Azerbaijan (country south of Russia) and my sister was caught up in rap music growing up, so I was mostly around either 70s rock/russian music from my dad or top 100 rap artists from my sister. I had never truly experienced what soulful and emotional music was truly about. When I was about in sixth grade, my life sort of went crashing down as I began to suffer through some episodes of depression, which seems like exaggerated bullshit because I was so young, but it was far from it. This was about the time that one of my cousins showed me the music video for VLV, when the album just came out. At first, I dismissed it, and continued on with my life, but the song kept playing on the radio so I was reminded of it often. I remember sitting on my computer one day at home watching the VLV music video for the fiftieth time, when I started to click on other Coldplay songs on the suggested links on youtube. First "Violet Hill," then "Talk," followed by "Shiver." I don't think I listened to much else but Coldplay for maybe an entire year. I had never listened to music that defined my being and gave me a sense of purpose. I could embody the feeling in Chris's words, and emulate my own pain through it. I remember printing out a copy of the lyrics of "What If" and walking around outside with it reading it over and over. I actually still have the copy buried somewhere if anyone's interested enough to see it. I turned my life around during this time, and became someone. Coldplay gave me a string to hold on to and to (strawberry) swing my passions towards, and that is something I will never forget. Thank you Coldplay. I am forever grateful.
  2. I agree with the fact that the lyrics don't seem as "meaningful" as they have been, which is simply a product of vague theme or word choice for me. However, melodies and riffs can completely alter the way in which lyrics are perceived. If I have never listened to yellow before, and someone gave me a sheet with the lyrics: "Look at the stars Look how they shine for you And everything you do Yeah they were all yellow" I mean nothing there stands out as a "masterpiece" to me until I hear how well it was sung and masterly put together it was by the band. I really really really think perception has a lot to do on the way we look at coldplay these days.
  3. It's been a few days since the leak, and I have listened to the songs more than a bunch of times. Here is what has become clear to me. Ever since the release of ETIAW, I kept telling myself that coldplay will go back to their old form. What I didn't realize though is that there is no such thing as oldplay or newplay. Its just coldplay. There are eras and periods, but its all still just coldplay. I promise you if songs like AHFOD and Amazing day were released prior to 2008, many would consider it masterpieces and "oldplay." It is all very relative. It's hard to appreciate things when you have such a strong bias already dominating your thought process. It is honestly just unfair to the band, because they put their heart into this album, and a lot of hardcore fans are just shitting on it. I can tell you one thing: I would rather have this album than nothing.
  4. My quick review: OVERALL: Overall, I am disappointed with the album as a whole. Not because the music is bad at all, but rather because it is overproduced. Hopefully it is the weak quality of the leak that makes it seem like this, but just too much random computer generated noise that some of the songs could 100% go without. Lots of echoes and vocal alterations that make it sound a lot more pop-ier than it needs to be. These songs will sound better than anything on MX or GS for me when performed live on stage though. THANKS STARGATE! AHFOD: Honestly, one of my favorites, because of its simplicity and catchiness. Many have said its forgettable, but I was humming the chorus for days after I first heard the live version. The “ohhhs” are a little excessive, but don’t take away too much. Great way too open the album. (8.5/10) Birds: The snippet didn’t really give us a good preview of the song. It gives off a radiohead vibe mixed with an X&Y vibe together with a strong baseline. Sounds much different than the UWTB version, either though it sounded A LOT BETTER like that. (7/10) HFTW: Not a bad transition from birds surprisingly! Well here’s the pop song we all knew was coming, and I like it a TON more than POC. Trumpets and glass tapping in the background, make it bearable for me. For sure will be a top 10 hit on billboard, because it was made to appeal to the radio/dance audience. (6.5/10) Everglow: Ok I’m just going to say it like I think it is. Gwyneth’s vocals are not very noticeable, but even so are SUPER unnecessary. Not a bad ballad, but not very memorable at the same time. Johnny's solo towards the end makes this song a lot better also, I love that. (6.5/10) AOAL: Grows on me every time I hear it but still don’t love it. The groovy funky feel to the song really just makes you want to get up and dance around though. There are “ooh”s at the end once again, but they aren’t utilized too poorly. Song is still too long for me. (7/10) Fun: Wow, Did not expect to like this one that much, but was not that bad! Easily one of the better songs of the album. The lyrics are a little bland and the song topic is not very abstract, but they fit the melody fairly well. Tove-lo does not have as much of a part as we first thought, and I am 100% fine with that. Avoided another POC once again on this album. (7.5/10) Kaleidoscope: Odd, but Chris said the poem changed his life, so I will go along with it. Obama only comes in at the end for a few seconds. Not that big of a deal. (6/10) Army of One: Lots of potential, ruined by too much production. Melody and lyrics flow very well. Random electronic noises in the back kind of piss me off though. Prospekt’s March meets Up in Flames. (6.5/10) X Marks the Spot: I don’t want to talk about it. Thats how much it pisses me off. Chris is a genius, but in this one just takes the lyrics from the top ten pop songs on billboard and puts it together with some unnecessary organ. “Hands up,” “ride you like a rocketship,” “you make my heart boom da-boom boom.” Seriously…?! The worst thing about a hidden track is that it makes it impossible to delete haha(-9249249823759345/10) Amazing day: This one received a lot of hate at first, but is very beautiful. “Sat on a roof, named every star..”. It’s just one of my favorites of this coldplay era for its elegance. When Will picks up the drum at the end, its so epic. The “oohs” kill it a little bit, but overall is a great song. (8/10) Color Spectrum: Nice little interlude, filled with chirping. Pretty relaxing but very forgettable. (5.5/10) Up&up: I didn’t get the hype when I first heard it, and I still don’t. Way too overproduced for how much more natural sounding it could be. Will sound amazing live for sure. The guitar solos are incredible though, and give the song so much more appeal. (7.5/10) RECAP: Not a bad album, and not as poppy as I thought at first, but still too overproduced for my liking. Beats MX and GS for me so far, and I’m on my third listen to the album right now. Glad to have my boys back though!

  7. Hey guys! I'm a long time Coldplay fan and also a long time lurker on this site. I don't really know why I don't post at all, because I'm on here like everyday. Anyway, I am so confused on the iHeartradio thing. There was literally no mention of it anywhere, and then this Yahoo live feed went up? Is this happening today?

  9. X&Y is my favorite album, I love it from start to finish. Can someone please explain to me why it is considered the worst album among my fellow coldplayers?
  10. FOR ANYONE WHO CAN'T WATCH....if you are using youtube's new html 5 or Cosmic Panda formats, the streaming will not work- so undo it
  11. AH YES I FINALLY HAVE MYLO XYLOTO!
  12. No, the release for MX in the united states is the 25th, we are the last ones to release the album, which annoys me.
  13. Wow, This event is in 5 days, I think the Atlanta Media is underestimating ow big this event will be. I see no reference in the news to this, but yet Coldplay will be in Atlanta for the first time in years. Also, the addition of young the giant, cage the elephant, the black keys, and Manchester orchestra -one would think at least half a million people will be out there.
