the 3 comes from the 3 subtracted from what the guys paid. 10 - 1 10 - 1 10 - 1 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 the 2 never comes into play, we're treating it like it was part of what was paid.

I'm sick. Felt like crap until I came here. But get this, my teacher said my paper was college matterial and what was I doing in high school! It was so great. She loved it! and in computer science everyone's mad at me b/c i finished a chapter and a half in one day while other people got 3 exercises done... so she made the limit 8 exercises a day... :cool: I'm such a nerd.

I think my theory was flawed... ok starts with 30 30(original) - 5 = 25 5 - 3(given back) = 2 25 + 2(kept) = 27 27 + 3 (given back) = 30 So ... there's your missing crazy E. but if each man got £1 back and they each paid £10 originally that means they each paid in total £9 for their room... and the waiter only got £2... where is the missing gold coin :wink3: That's not how it works, and that's FINAL. 10 - 1 = 9 10 - 1 = 9 10 - 1 = 9 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 9 + 9 + 9 + 3 = 30 SO YEAH
