I was on vacation this weekend, lounging on a beach... somewhere behind me, random middle-aged man listening on his iPod says to his wife LOUDLY "Oh now it's Viva la Vida, Coldplay, I love this song". I beamed like I was a proud best friend of the band :cool:

Caught the West Coast broadcast. It was a great compact performance! I thought Yellow and CB sounded flawless... loved that we could hear Jonny and Guy's backing vocals so clearly. And Will was KILLING it. Happy birthday Chris! (surprised he referenced it so many times!)

I hadn't seen the South Bank VLV special - which i watched wide-eyed last night. That gave me a whole new perspective on Chris and the band, and i understand their metamorphosis between VLV and MX a lot better now. Bonus points for Chris and Gwyneth being in the same room! On camera! Voluntarily! Also it was nice to see Chris with the golden curls but still clean shaven :D

My apartment has a penthouse level. Of course it's labeled "PH" in the elevator and I immediately think of Phil :)

Watching POC was uncomfortable, I thought Chris had to keep looking at Rihanna to keep her on track...I had my money on her forgetting a couple of obvious words. Overall, I was underwhelmed but I don't think it was that bad. Agree that if they had re-sequenced it as Paradise/POC/We found love, the transitions would be easier. I appreciated that they wore black on stage, perhaps as a mark of respect for WH. They were missing the happy energy from the shows through the week. As someone pointed out before... wasn't Dave Grohl still wearing his Xyloband when he accepted the award? He couldn't have hated on Coldplay THAT much! :)

I am hoping someone from the first row got a pic of that. He looked amazing today (and hopped around like crazy)... would have been amazing to see live :(

After a rewatch - I'm also glad the live version exists. This video doesn't do much to showcase the energy of the song and it's a much too literal translation of the lyrics. That being said, I don't have the same aversion now that I did when I first watched it. In terms of marketing I think it will do well in the segment that discovered Coldplay through Paradise. The band seemed like they were having fun and were so relaxed instead of intense - it's such a cheerful look on them. I thought that the video had too much of a "miming" effect though - Chris and Will looked as if they trying to say the words (Will at "Cartoon Heart") too forcefully? (okay, now I'm just nit-picking)

I felt like I was watching a Rihanna video.
