So it's been a while since i've posted, but i've come and read some of the stuff in this page and was alerted when i saw mentions of Radiohead's new album. now i listened to that in full yesterday and the first comparison i made was to various amounts of Jon Hopkins work as well as Coldplay's more mellow songs around the 2000-2005 era. I absolutely love A Moon Shaped Pool. it's unbelievably refreshing to a see a well acclaimed band produce there best stuff these days. But what made me come back here and post was the lyrical content off that album. Now i definitely think it's a similar concept to Ghost Stories lyrically, musically you can't compare them, Ghost Stories is just pure bullshit bar 1-2 tracks. Themes such as forgotten love, lost, regret, anxiety, depression all fall around what Chris was producing in the 2013-14 era. i Imagined if Coldplay recorded a Moon Shaped Pool and thought of Martins vocals instead or Yorke's. I honestly belive if Coldplay released something as powerful, ambient and dark, (Brian Eno definitely would've stuck around for this) they would've risked commercial appeal but they would've been massively critically acclaimed. It's such a shame to see Coldplay the way they are today. To see Radiohead produce potentially their best album, it makes you wonder if Coldplay have what it takes to produce their best still.

So I guess this is it. The night before Coldplay release their 7th album. I can't express my happiness that it's only 3 hours away as I'm in Australia and our clocks are so far forward compared to others. I'm lying on my bed right now listening to Parachutes, an album which I never really liked when I first started listening to Coldplay a long time ago. I would say I'm much more rock orientated therefore I absolutely love AROBTTH. However, I've come to the realisation that they will never come close to the quality of their early stuff, it's simply that good. Not being negative about their current work which is highly thoughtful and creative, I just don't think its their best work. In saying that, it doesn't necessarily mean I'm not buzzing for the release. I honestly can't wait to hear what they've been up to. it will be extremely intriguing to hear the work they've done since GS because it's such a dramatic turnaround. The band was the first artist/group I grew attached to and they mean a huge deal to me, so I can't wait for the release like most of the people on this forum. Personally I'm keen for the title track, as well as the Noel Gallagher track, they will probably be some of the gems on the album. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Coldplay have been a huge influence. They wrote songs which meant something to listeners, there's no emotion to any of their music, they've lost it but I think they can find it again, there's an entire album we still need to listen to. They are definitely indie pop now. Bands like Bastille, the 1975 and city and colour, are all indie pop artists. Rock bands these days are arcade fire, arctic monkeys, MUSE, and kings of Leon. That's sad really, I know bands always evolve but I remember when Martin spoke about being influenced by radiohead, jeff Buckley and travis. Now he prefers to talk about artists like Beyoncé and Rihanna and work with top EDM artists such as Avicii and Hardwell. It's a rapid transformation and I think "oldplayers" have a strong point. They aren't the worlds best rock band anymore. They are probably the best indie pop band now. Best rock band in the world at the moment is probably the arctic monkeys, muse or even tame impala. I have this really strange theory. When Chris wrote ASFOS, I can recall him saying somewhere where he "ditched" the band. Now over the past few years, there's no doubt Chris has been the spokesman for Coldplay and his presence in the music industry is massive. Being so popular among other artists, I have the feeling he's potentially been influenced to write More music that resemble pop anthems leaving Guy, will and Jonny in the dark. I would love to know what they think about this change in musical formula. Especially guy because he does have another band on the side he plays with and produces for a number of successful artists such as the pierces. There's no doubt the lead singles have been sub standard to the 2nd single. Violet hill was probably there best lead single but viva la Vida critically was a very good song. Yeah it was different but the lyrics, there was meaning in that. Color spectrum and kaleidoscope are potentially the big hits. Would be very disappointed to see "fun" get realeased as a single simply because it's got tove Lo in it and has EDM written all over it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams" (DEC 4TH - Tracklisting in first post) From 7 studio albums, the lead single has always the representation of the album. I think the album will be better than ghost stories, but I'd class it in the same category as MX but there's a lot to go under the bridge before we can define whether it was better or not. I think you can make a distant judgement of the one song, I really feel like this album will be disco influenced, and from the album cover there seems to be a bit of a psychedelic feeling but Coldplay would never do that. Just imagine Coldplay doing something that tame impala would normally do, how strange would that be. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

So I had a listen to "adventure of a Lifetime" just then, and my first impression came as soon as I heard the guitar notes. I thought "what is this?!? Instruments?!?" And then the drum came in and I felt like it was about to get heavy but it slowed right down into a disco type rhythm. I kind of felt this was a little bit Bee Gees, and I'm not sure if I'm a big fan of it. I heard someone on here say that Coldplay are artistically dead. I wouldn't agree with that but I understand what they are saying. Coldplay have it within their capabilities to produce a major hit, but there not creating songs that are "unique" anymore. Songs like clocks and viva, no one had heard stuff like that before. One was a piano driven rock song and the other was just classically driven rock. This album coming up reminds me of MX significantly. In fact adventure of a lifetime is reminiscent of hurts like heaven if you think about it. This proves Coldplay haven't spent time being innovative when they would rather write mediocre material, Coldplay need a lot of time to work out who they are and come back with a bang, they need a massive break to be honest. I just get the feeling Coldplay might have to go hard on this record. I've made it pretty clear that I'm a MUSE fan in areas of these forums, but I think if Coldplay maintain the pop antics that have been on MX and GS, it might prove damaging for the actual image of the band. I think it's fair to say Coldplay are no longer compared to the likes of radio head, travis, and oasis but now imagine dragons, maroon 5, and one Republic. I would love to see them do a drones, (recent release from muse) and try and shake off the poppy sound. I know bands need to change and evolve, but there have been a number of bands going a lot heavier and it's worked i.e muse and Mumford and sons. I think if Coldplay could find the depths that they once had lyrically and beefed up the sound a bit more, it could prove to be a very successful record. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Hang on mate, The 2nd Law was a decent album, the way muse mixed electronic music into the album was amazing, just listen to follow me or UNSUSTAINABLE
