June 6, 200521 yr Go veggies! I'm a vegetarian too, and I find that one will gradually lose the need to eat meat. Anyone noticed that too? yep, i found that. first few months were hard work but after that it was plain sailing. not a week goes by that i don't think at some point "i'm soo glad to be a veggie!"
June 6, 200521 yr ... and also a little fish from time to time - but only when it's disguised in breadcrumbs or batter :lol: english fish and chips gets you does it ;) :lol: Oh' date=' and I never take any supplements - don't need to, with all those lovely fresh vegetables.[/quote'] i find the same - no need for supplements for me !! you can get everything from fruit and veg that you miss out on by not having meat. Can't remember actually which are the more difficult ones to get, but plenty of fruit, veg and pulses and olive oil and you'll be right as rain ;
June 6, 200521 yr Ah, Thank you very much! :) You're right Musiclover; I meant veggie not exactly vegetarian. I know If you have a balanced diet there's no problem, the thing is I live in a place with little comodities and I don't get Soya Milk or Tofu; most people eat here just meat with potatoes or spagguetti or salads and that's it. I don't know how to tell my parents, that's the biggest problem. I don't eat bacon, sausages, poultry, hamburgers and chicken so I would actually be taking out only the dairy products, eggs and red meat and I don't really fancy them but I just don't know what to say! I feel it's pretty much like Texas and mine's a meat-eater family (5 times a week at least). Thanks anyway and probably I'm just drawing myself in a glass of water and they'll take it much better than I think they will! :lol: i would advise to go just plain old veggie to start with, i.e. keep the eggs, milk and cheese in your diet (organic if you can or the very least, free range if you can) and just cut out the meat. Anyway, good luck with telling your parents and really hope you make the jump coz it's one well worth making.
June 6, 200521 yr I don't eat red meat. I would love it if I had the willpower to give up meat altogether, so I have chosen to give up red meat for now. I have been this way since I went away to university, and could decide for myself what I ate. I envy anyone know can give up meat completely.
June 6, 200521 yr I'm a vegetarian too, but my mum forces me to eat fish. She thinks it is healthy or something like that..
June 6, 200521 yr Ya, once I started not eating red meat, my parents would make meals and lie to me that there wasn't red meat in it. Really nice of them.
June 7, 200521 yr Ya' date=' once I started not eating red meat, my parents would make meals and lie to me that there wasn't red meat in it. Really nice of them.[/quote'] Parents can be so understanding and supportive sometimes. Poor you. :(
June 7, 200521 yr ^ I know, I wanted to try something that I believed in. They are Polish, so they like their sausages and other meat stuff, so it's hard for them to understand. But they didn't really want to understand, they just didn't like the idea right away.
June 7, 200521 yr that's awesome! :) i'm looking around for nice girls to date, and most are just surprised that i'm a vegetarian. it's rough. i don't want to go to a sushi bar or to a steakhouse everyday! :rolleyes: specially if i'm going to pay for the meals! :P :D
June 7, 200521 yr Author :lol: I must say you are the first boy I 'know' that is vegetarian. My brothers and classmates (all boys) say being vegetarian goes against their 'virility' (:lol:) and that a good macho eats meat and I've found out that, at least here, all boys think alike. Must be a cultural thing, I guess :lol:

June 8, 200521 yr yeah, Sternly...well, doesn't take a lot to bring out the machoness--or the defense of it---from the latino/hispanic guys...i see a lot of it here in texas too! lol don't worry, i know i'm not virile! lmao by the way, i liked the quotes you have in your signature. if i remember correctly, the first one was said by Mahatma Gandhi.
June 8, 200521 yr Author I took it from Voltaire but I've found out that many people have said it after him (and maybe before aswell)
June 17, 200521 yr Author I realised how negative I can be sometimes! :lol: I told my parents and they said they sort of guessed I would tell them, at one point, that I would become a vegetarian and they said they had no problem with it but If I wanted special food it was up to my nanny to decide and they took me to the nutritionist and I have special food at school and it wasn't as complicated as I thought it would be! :lol: The only thing now is that my classmates tease me, but I don't really care! :D
