Featured Replies

I know i'm ahead of meself here, but thought i'd get in early...

Can someone post the setlist for Richard tonight please - thank you :)

Oh and if anyone has a recording of him?!?!?!?!? ;)

He played the following set tonight

(all acoustic guitar+keyboard except lonely souls and bittersweet symphony which were taped instrumentals)

On Your Own

Space And Time

Lucky Man

A Song For The Lovers

Lonely Souls

Nature Is The Law

Check The Meaning

One Day

The Drugs Don`t Work

Bittersweet Symphony

I thought Richard Ashcroft was fantastic last night - I was VERY impressed. He sings with an incredible amount of passion and sounds just like he does "recorded".

I'll definitely go and see him again. Especially liked his DJ Shadow collaboration.

and where's Science of Silence???

It's my fav!!!!

I never was into Ashcroft's music...mainly because of the image The Verve had. Kinda rude and stuff. However, I was positively surprised when I saw him perform last night. Great performer. anyway, I suppose I am off-topic since I didn't post a set list. Sorry...just thought I would mention it though.

i know a bunch of people recorded stuff in the front rows but i left my digi cam at home cuz i thought they would take them away. a decision i could kick my own butt for :( I wanted to record "Bitter Sweet Symphony" sooooo badly

I was there and I think somebody DID have their camera confiscated while trying to record Coldplay!!

Anyway, Richard Ashcroft was a great support - unlike that other mob of "fishheads" from Hamburg. They were awful - as was most of the warm-up music. Who chooses that stuff??

doesn't the label choose it? I didn't think they were awful but it certainly wasn't my kind of music. being the warm-up band must suck!

I thought the lead singer sounded out of tune - especially at the start!! But the worst part was the warm-up music. That was three hours+ of absolute depressing garbage we had to endure!

they definitely should have cut the first act. I spent the first hours in like a half-coma state of being. Richard Ashcroft would have been enough as a warm-up. Plus, he didn't suck

I agree totally! But only if the background music had been better. Why didn't they play some stuff that everybody could sing along to, or play all three Coldplay albums??

haha, well "Bitter Sweet Symphony" was something mostly everyone could sing along to. Maybe people assumed putting a German band on stage at a German venue would end up having people sing along?

certainly agree that they should ave played the albums instead, lol.

I think you may have misunderstood!! I meant the background music played BEFORE Kettcar and then between Kettcar and Richard Aschcroft. THAT was dreadful and was when Coldplay should have been played.

However, I doubt whether anyone knew any of the Kettcar songs, so the crowd wouldn't have been able to sing along to them!!

A 'cover' band would have been a better idea!!

some people knew them, definitely. just not enough.

i actually did mean the same thing as you with the coldplay music. I didn't mind the stuff they played though. Funk is fun.

*You mean - only people from Hamburg?? Had YOU heard of them before??

Funk?? I didn't hear much funk!! I LOVE funk!! Between Richard Aschcroft and Coldplay there was some better music, but not before then!! It was more like funeral music - awful progressive acoustic rock stuff mainly, that went on for about ten minutes per song. Don't you remember that? I'm surprised people weren't slashing their wrists!!

really? well I was half asleep most of the time because the wait put me to sleep...so I only remember the funk-ish stuff. It was better stuff than at some other concerts I had gone to. They were playing some really annoying stuff. and yes, I had heard of "Kettcar" before. Only by name though. I am not a big fan of German music...and last night I certainly didn't turn into one either

I have to agree!! And Kettcar had a very "German" sound, too. Something to do with the guitars, I think. The heavier songs reminded me of "Liquido"!!

At the last Travis gig they played a lot of well-known 80s stuff (Billy Idol etc.). That was great!!

that would have kicked ass! Billy Idol was actually playing similar funk-stuff as warm up music...and Propellerheads. Random memory.

Speaking of 80's songs...didn't Jon play a part of an 80's song (I believe..could have been 90's) at some point. I don't remember which song it was but they were up front. I wish it wasn't all a blur to me :(

Hi there! ;)

Apart from discussing the background music and the quality of Kettcar (you have to listen to the lyrics carefully!) could you please be so kind and post the Coldplay set list for Cologne? Unfortunately I couldn`t make it there yesterday.
