1) Open to US only

2) Coldplay would never sell themselves in films, commercials are different

2) There was a statement of the band somewhere about this. They don't sell their music to commercials, but it's audible in some shows and films. Maybe I can find this statement again....

Found it. It's in the recent Ezine, last page, the FAQ section.

i read that in the Q article that Gap and Coca Cola wanted to use Trouble and Beautiful world. i'm glad the guys didn't let them.

yep i read that, coldplay dont let them use songs for commercials. they cant control use on tv programmes and they let their music be in films if they approve it. im sure thats right.

All I know is that a tv program called Six Feet Under play A Rush of Blood to The Head in their advertisements and Yellow has been played in another tv program called Dawson's Creek.

Coldplay said they'd never sell themseves/music in commercials.

When Coldplay was in Toronto @ MuchMusic's Intimate and Interactive,

Jen, the VJ asked them "l heard you don't want your music in films" and

Jonny said "thats not true, we like our music in films, its cool"

Chris said "we were playing in Los Angelas the other day and we were joking on stage in being 'Dude Wheres My Car 2' and the producer was there, so what can l say? we're up for it. We were just in a film called Insomnia, well, we wern't in it, but if you listen very carefully, and ignore what Robin Williams and Alpachio are saying at ONE particular point, you can just about hear us (laughs) so we really made that film"

so...LOL :D that sums up how they feel about music in films.
