Ever been in therapy?

^I knew you were gonna say that...

Felix.....when I saw you wrote the first sentence....I didn't have to read further on....because I knew YOUR therapy!

For me it was just a horrible experience and I don't think it helped me at all. When I told my parents that I didn't want to go to the threapy anymore, I had to go for other two years.

I think you can make a child do a therapy, but you can't make someone trust the psychologist. If you don't, you don't want to talk about personal things and the whole threapy seems pointless.

that's horrible indeed. :/

^well, i had almost the same problem, i was really scared at first. I mean, who wouldn't if he was send to this weird lady when you're 10 years old :/

but it was OK after all, i still think i didn't need it but the psychologist was nice and friendly ... i told her everything i had to say.

Therapy? Of course!

Usually every friday and saturday evening, sometimes I urgently need some therapy in the middle of the week as well.

My therapist's called Dr. Jim Beam, by the way - highly recommended!

jack daniels is a better doctor!!!!!!

The psychologist was just weird in my opinion. He asked me about dreams (about the future) and he tried to make me think about things I really didn't care about at this age. When I talked about something that really bothered me at the time, he usually wasn't interested and stopped me talking.

he's not worth all that money, seriously!

I just had crappy sessions with him and I always get a headache when he's babbling around.

that's weird :/ . The psychologist was always asking me what i wanted to say, what i did during the week ... and then she asked me about my feelings, i mean, what i liked about my parents, brother and sister .. i really felt as if i could tell her everything.

It is really strange how many of you have already visited a therapy........I mean......here it has never been a debatte if somebody of us goes to a therapy....even in my area not.....I think here in our little villages it somehow is a scandal if somebody goes to a therapy!

He didn't care about my daily life. About relationships, my family and my friends, yes. But more about my future, my dreams, my thoughts,...

I often had to lie down and do some journey in my imagination. I had to 'go' to some place and then tell was I was doing there. Then he said, it's evening now, so what are you gonna do. What film do you wanna watch, etc.

He also worked with pictures, I had to tell my impressions and I also had to paint a lot.

well, it took me quite long to tell some close friends ... and the reaction wasn't the one i expected ... i thought they'd be shocked or they'd laugh but they weren't, they were very interested.

I think my friends would accept it of course.......but here in those villages live many old-fashioned people.....I hate that!

All in all music is my therapy!

I never talked about it. I was very ashamed. I don't mind to talk about it now that it's been years since I had stopped going there.

i didn't talk about it when i was still going, only last year i said something about it.

I hate how being in therapy has such a stigma surrounding it. It doesn't mean that you are "nuts" or that you are going to kill yourself, but unfortunately that is what a lot of close-minded or ignorant people tend to think.

I will be completely honest and say that the reason I have been seeing someone for the past 3 years is because I am recovering from an eating disorder, and I am trying to overcome the severe depression that goes along with it. I am no longer ashamed of it. If anything, it has made me stronger as a person and hopefully more capable of helping others who suffer with the same disorders.

It is always hard to work up the nerves to go see someone for the first time, but once you get over that initial awkwardness, it is really rewarding. :)

I have never been in therapy... Talking about my problems would be far too difficult... I can't speak about anything even a bit more personal even to my parents or closest friends... I like to keep everything inside although I know it's not a very good thing to do... I just don't want to bother anyone with my problems, because I think people wouldn't want to hear about them and I would just annoy people by talking about my problems for them...

^ditto..same problem, though I talk with my relatives, my dear sister about my problems, and with my bf ofcourse

yup. I don't see myself talking to a stranger about my personal problems.. :/

Couldn't agree with you more.

It makes me really upset to see the distrust people have for doctors such as psychologists or psychiatrists. Personally, it's sort of insulting to me. People look at me weird when I say my dad's a psychiatrist. Then they say "Oh, so he's a shrink?" What other medical profession has this derogatory nickname? Or has ANY nickname? I'm sure you can make some up, but no matter where you look people are demonizing mental illness and the health care professionals who deal in that area. It's not a joke.

I would never tell my friends that I take medicine to help me deal with my depression. I'm too uncomfortable with that... I trust them, but not THAT much. I'm scared they'll treat me different, look at me different, want to stop hanging out with me. I don't mind talking about it here because I'm relatively anonymous. It's good to talk about, but I don't have to worry about you people teasing me about it or anything, because if you do then I just don't come into a thread anymore, or whatever.

I hate seeing morons like Tom Cruise, who hold such power, walking around talking about how horrible medicine is. It makes me sick. I feel like I'm starting to get my life back after just 2 months of being in treatment. Unless you've suffered from anxiety/depression then I don't think you could understand. In my health class we're talking about things like this and my teacher says "Depression..." and immediately the discussion goes into suicide. No, it's not like that. Just because you're depressed doesn't mean you cut, or start to make a noose. I certainly never did that. I didn't do much of anything, just sat around in my room and cried.

There are so many bad doctors, though... I'm lucky that I've got my dad, who's a very well respected doctor here and knows a lot of people, so he found me some really excellent people. You can't just walk into a therapy session and expect a whole bunch of things to happen, though. You can't expect the person's going to be some freak who'll hypnotize you then rape you, because in all likelyhood (if you've done your research on the person), that's not going to happen. If you go in with mistrust, that's going to come off and taint the entire session and you won't get anything out of it. I went in with a clear mind and just talked.

And yeah, as you can see, I talk a lot....

now... for the 3th time psychotherapy... I've been two times in therapy for my back... :shifty:
