Language and animals

Featured Replies

Ok.........

let's come this episode of y life which happened....TATAAAAA:

IN MY GERMAN LESSON (like soo often)

We were talking about language.....

about different languages etc....

we came to the question if animals have a language...or what else..?

I raised my hand and said:

"haha.....first we have to make clear what humans are...if they are animals or if they are just humans? If they are animals the animal language is a special language just like our language!

If their are just animals we can't really say if it is language!"

Surely...animals can "say what they want"...but is it a special language?

Hm....I think animals(not humans, but rabbits, for example) have their own language. My sis says I'm insane cause animals don't have a mind so the only have instincts, but I'm sure they can think and chat.Yeah, that's true.Read Watership Down.

Sure animals have forms of communication to satisfy basic survival needs (i.e. hunting and mating signals, and danger alerts), but it is not nearly as evolved or complex as our own language. I highly doubt that animals have the capacity to say "Hey Simba, catch any antelope today? Woo, sure is hot out today." But I do think that animals can communicate a lot of than what we give them credit for. Research on primates shows that chimpanzees have very elaborate social systems that can be attributed to their higher intelligence and advanced thought. Btw, when I was a kid I used to have full conversation with my cat.....and my stuffed animals. Now that's a whole other topic of discussion! :P
