friends who you've debated with and friends who you haven't: who are you closer to?

Featured Replies

uber long thread title but who are you closer to? I think I'm a lot closer to the people who I've had debates discussions and arguments with.

Ā

Actually I think when I've had dirty arguments and huge debates with people I end up very close to them in the end for some reason. Maybe it's because we trust each other that we will try for each other. I don't know...

yeah, i agree ...

Ā

good conversations and debates are a good base for a friendship

i think it depends on your friends, but its true. i'd like to say the same thing, that i'm closer with friends who i've argued with. but there are some people who always take it too personally, and think i'm just looking for trouble!

I think we should all get in an argument right now right? :wacky: er, the world is made of jello... :o

i agree that you usual argue more with people you're closer with. also, you know that you'll make up and it wont screw up the friendship (most of the time)

Do you mean about the people on the board?

:uhoh: ...:sneaky:

psychologically speaking, the earth is a sphere, and is located between mars and venus, and has a moon that revolves around it, and the earth revolves around the sun, taking in light, which provides energy and nutrients for plants, which feed animals, whom some are taking in by humans such as us, and whom some are eaten by us, and by "us" i refer to the universal population in general, and within this population, most of us eat jello.

Ā

Ā

ahem, therefore, if we eat jello, then, how can the earth be made out of this chilled homogeneous mixture, when all the globe's population feeds off of it?

If I don't have debates with a friend sooner or later, it usually means one of 3 things: We don't talk much, which means we're not really friends, we just know each other. OR We can't talk about stuff for various reasons, which is just plain bad for any relationship OR The other person is a bubblehead not capable of logical thought, and I always get annoyed sooner or later by those people if I spend too much time around them.

Ā

I guess my point is that if they're really a friend there will be a debate or ten sooner or later. It's just part of a healthy relationship.

This is a good commment  But what if they don't really say much but are always there for you.. Wouldn't that make them a better friend than someone who you've had arguments with and came to a better understanding of each other but they are never really there for you?

Ā

I don't know about the rest of you.. but I dislike dramatic, cocky people.. who are always fucking arguing. I mean, don't you ever get tired of it? People always fucking arguing and on forums it's just pathetic. It is such a waste of energy. People who argue on forums make me think that they don't really have no one around them and have to come and fight with someone here or they are just too afraid to really say anything in their real life because maybe they don't want to get beat up where as here you can say all you want and there won't be a bruise on you.

Ā

Anyway, to me action counts more than words.. :)

Ā

Really good point. ;) Should have though of that one. It does happen, but it's rare... at least in my experience. But I'm really quiet, so most of my best friends are people who were a little more outgoing and approached me first.

I think that there is a HUGE difference between debating and arguing. There has been alot of arguing on here lately and it makes me a little ill. :(

Ā

In a good debate, both sides are willing to both talk AND listen. You learn alot more about what you think as a result, as well as learning more about where the other person is coming from. You may never agree, but you do understand more than you did.

I agree with you but on forums it's more about who insults better than the other :laugh3: :dozey:

I don't think I've ever started a friendship from a debate, but I've had some good ones with people who I'm already friends with

Well for me it depends what the argument is about....but it can be good i guess.
