Wayne's been had - blame it on Rio

It's not often Wayne Rooney is outfoxed by a defender. But our pictures show the moment he was well and truly fooled by his teammate Rio Ferdinand - with a little help from his fiancee Coleen McLoughlin.

The star striker was the victim of an elaborate prank set up by the Manchester United and England defender for a hilarious new Beadle's About-style television show.

Ferdinand and Coleen lured Rooney to a dogs' home, where he was virtually accused of killing a boy's pet - until Ferdinand revealed the joke with his catchphrase: 'You've been murked!'

The stunt was one of seven Ferdinand pulled on team-mates for his ITV1 show Rio Ferdinand's World Cup Wind-Ups, which will be screened on Saturday, the day of England's first World Cup game.

David Beckham, Gary Neville, David James, Ashley Cole, Peter Crouch and Shaun Wright-Phillips were all fooled - but Chelsea's John Terry rumbled the prank after spotting a text message on his girlfriend's phone.

Speaking exclusively to The Mail on Sunday's Live magazine, Ferdinand said: 'I knew Wayne loved dogs, so Coleen got him to go to a dogs' home they were supposed to be sponsoring. After that, it was all about adding layers to see how far we could push it.'

At the home, a plaque was unveiled - with Rooney's name misspelt. Then the couple discovered a boy whose dog was supposedly undergoing surgery.

'The vet went out of the room for a second and the dog's monitor flatlined,' explained Ferdinand. 'The vet came back in and said, "What's happened?" Wayne went, "I don't know." Then the vet made Wayne hold this drip, lifting it higher and higher. He couldn't see Coleen laughing in the background.'

But Ferdinand said Wayne was 'brilliant' when the joke was revealed: 'He turned away with his hand on his head. He couldn't believe everyone was involved, especially Coleen. He was saying, "Not you as well?" '

David Beckham was fooled by a chauffeur who failed to obey any of his directions and eventually decided to take the England captain home to meet his family.

Fearing he was being kidnapped, Beckham jumped out of the car and ran off. Ferdinand and the camera crew had to chase after him to reveal the joke.

Beckham said later: 'I was getting more and more annoyed. Then he wouldn't stop at all and that's when I decided to make a run for it. The car was still moving but I thought, "Sod it," jumped out, ran to the other side of the road and went for a taxi.'

Liverpool striker Peter Crouch was persuaded to sign a property deal in Dubai with some shady businessmen - who, of course, turned out to be actors.

And Chelsea's Shaun Wright-Phillips, brought in at the last minute to replace John Terry, got involved in a restaurant gag in which the manager fired a waiter for becoming too friendly with his celebrity customers. Ferdinand insisted no one was upset at being duped. 'Even though they're being made fools of, the players like being involved,' he said. 'The first question everyone asked was, "Have you done anyone else yet?"'

looking forward to seeing that. I hope it's on before the game and not after! :drunk:

^It would be far easier if someone with Sky+ recorded it, then it could be uploaded to here!
