Soiled Sheets

I'm sorry for spamming, but here is a shorter short story:

SOILED SHEETS

The rancid smell of urine spread throughout the room where four-year-old Luke lay. He had been sleeping, but he had had a nasty nightmare, something about Daddy hitting Mummy or something like that. He had said some horrible things about her, and had smacked her hard on the nose and made blood come out.

In his dream, Luke had been scared that Daddy would come and hit Luke after hitting Mummy, and so Luke had been scared in real life too, and this had made him wee.

Daddy didn’t like it when he weed. He said it was ‘Fucking disgusting’ and that he was ‘A dirty little bastard’. Luke didn’t know what some of those words meant, but he knew that they were not nice words because Daddy would then hit him, or Mummy would shout at Daddy for saying these words and he would hit her. Sometimes both.

Mummy always had black bruises on her face, and sometimes on her body when Luke could see them, and she would tell Luke that she had ‘Fallen down the stairs’ or that she ‘Didn’t see the cupboard door’, but Luke didn’t believe Mummy. He knew Mummy was telling a porker because she loved Daddy and didn’t want policemen shouting at him.

Luke didn’t love his Daddy. Luke loved his Mummy lots and lots, but he hated his Daddy because he hit Mummy. He was a nasty man. But Daddy didn’t hit Mummy when Luke’s big brother Jon came home. Jon was really big and Luke didn’t know how old he was, but he knew he was a lot older than Luke because he had seen pictures of Jon holding him when he had just been born. Luke thought he was the number three after fifteen.

Jon wasn’t as big as Daddy, but he was still massive to Luke. Luke loved Jon because Jon bought him sweets and played with him when he came home from university. Luke missed Jon because he was at university for a long time, and when Jon was here, Daddy wouldn’t hit Mummy. Luke thought that if Jon knew about what Daddy was doing he would probably punch him, or stick a knife in his belly. Something like that.

Luke could feel his wee sticky over his skin. The pyjamas he had had Scoop on from Bob the Builder and Scoop had gone a very dark yellow, as had the blue background, and the green sheet on his bed.

Luke got out of bed and got undressed. He hid his pyjamas with wee on them under his bed, and took off the sheet on his bed that had wee on it. He hid this under the bed too. He then got out of his drawer on the other side of the room a new pair of pyjamas, ones with the “Tweenies” on, with a big picture of Jake. Jake was his favourite because he had great hair, and a funny voice. His name also sounded a lot like Luke’s.

Luke then reached over to the air freshener on the wall and pressed it lots of times. Daddy wouldn’t be able to smell the wee now. He then got back into bed. Luke realised with horror that he still hadn’t put a new sheet on. The sheets were really high in the cupboard, but Luke knew that if he didn’t get one Daddy would hurt him, and would smack his bottom and slap his legs and hit him with things like slippers and belts and things. Luke didn’t think Daddy’s should be doing things like this to their little boys, and these all made him really scared of Daddy.

Luke got back out of bed and started to climb the cupboard. He got up the first shelf, which had his toys on it, to the second and third shelves and continued to climb. It was like a mountain, but he finally got to the top and reached up to grab a sheet.

The cupboard began to move, to rock backwards and forwards. Luke got scared because he was really high up. He grabbed the sheet and started to climb down. The cupboard fell.

Luke let go of the cupboard and landed on the floor, and this really hurt. He felt blood come out his head, and he couldn’t move his arm, which also really hurt. It might be broken. Then the cupboard landed on him. It landed on his face and made blood come out his nose, as well as landing on his chest. Luke couldn’t breath with this big thing on him, and he tried to move but found he couldn’t.

He could hear Daddy coming up the stairs saying he was going to give him a ‘Good Hiding’. Luke wished Jon were here as he realised he couldn’t breath at all anymore. Luke got scared, he got really frightened. How was he going to move this? Maybe Daddy would move it before he gave him a ‘Good Hiding’.

Luke cried. Luke died.
