Spies: My theory.

Featured Replies

I was listening to Spies a while ago and I scratched my head over it. What if Spies was a tribute to Orwell's 1984? The lines about being a fugitive may refer to being one who commits a thoughtcrime or something like that and the "spies" may be members of the Party.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

The song, if this is true, alternates from a first person to a second person view, the second person view being the chorus and bridge. The line "And you're feeling so bad 'cause you know" refers to Winston's hatred toward the Party and Big Brother. The final chorus describes Winston after the brainwashing. Winston feels good about the spies because another "criminal" is being brought to justice. The spies "can't touch him" because of the "rehabilitation" he was put through; he is no longer a threat to the Party.

Yeah, so I sorta thought this up on the fly. I haven't read the book in a while, so don't expect me to get into some deep conversation about it.

Actually, no. That's the first time I've ever heard of that site. Thanks for the link, though.
