Rockstar: Supernova (Using Coldplay Songs!)

Featured Replies

I really liked Ryan's version of Clocks. Of course it's not gonna sound like Chris, but it was still great. Ryan was the best, they're stupid for eliminating him.

I still miss Zayra...

But either way. I'm glad to see Ryan go. Clocks just has to be sung in faucetto! There's no way around it really! Any attempt to do otherwise RUINS the song! I've always appreciated Chris, but after seeing all of the Rockstar performances, I've never appreciated him more! He really leaves his own mark on his songs that, it's officially been proven, that "nothing else compares" to!

As for the show in total. Dilana and Magni are my favorites. 3rd is Storm, and 4th is Toby (not far behind)...in DEAD last it Lucas. The man can't sing! He's terrible. The only song I've liked from him all year was Rebel Yell, and Toby did 1000x better, so now that's even ruined!!! He'll probably make it to the end, but probably won't win!

Who knows, though...I HATED JD last year, and he won!

Rock Star: Supernova - Time to Pack up

Here we go, the Final Rock Star: Supernova Webisode. Recap of last week - Dilana powered through the pain of a torn leg muscle to deliver Super Soul. Magni got the crowd going with his original. Storm Large showed What is Lady Like, (with Tommy Lee intensely into her song). Lukas Rossi showed his intensity with You Make My Head Spin. Toby Rand's catchy tune was an instant hit with the crowd. Toby was given the encore and the new car! Moving on to the elimination, it was Lukas's first time in the bottom three. He was the first sent back to sit down. Now, the two girls were still standing. Tommy Lee didn't have the heart to do the Tommy-hawk job, so he handed the torch to Jason Newsted, who told Storm she was heading home to sleep in her own bed.

Back at the mansion, Toby is in disbelief that he won the car. The rockers toast Storm, and talk about how great of a person she is. Toby tells the other three, I don't know about you but I loved living with Storm. The rest chimed in "Me Too". Lukas says Live Large, Magni says she is Larger than life. Magni toasts the top four. He is so happy he got to play on stage with Supernova. Jason is one of his heroes, how could he not be happy?

Lukas thinks it's crazy that one of them will be the lead singer with SN. Dilana chimes in with the same sentiment. Magni heads to the piano to take a break. Dilana hops over and squeezes him to move over while he's playing. Toby secretly hands Dilana a small cake, and she smears it into Magni's face for having the encore. Magni just keeps playing with icing on his face.

Poolside, the four sit checking out the view, and guess who walks up, MIG AYESA. He hands Toby the keys to his new car! They go out to the car, the back is open on the Honda Element and Mig jumps in the back to demonstrate how it can be a portable stage. Toby says Mig is a funny little man, with painted on pants. Magni was amazed Mig could actually stand in the back. Toby couldn't believe the car was his, he did check the mileage, eight miles, to make sure no one had taken it for a spin.

Next the four and Mig are seated on the pool deck again. Mig is telling the group, one is going to front SN but there are three that will not. He says of the three remaining he would love to tell them they will go out and get million dollar recording deals, but in reality they are not. But they have every opportunity to make it work for them. Mig tells how he just signed a recording deal with Universal and has an album that's finished and will be out in January. Mig departs the mansion.

Lukas says when Mig started talking about the three that would not win. Lukas said right then "beep" his mind shut it out, he wouldn't have come into this if he didn't plan on winning. He wasn't there for third or second place.

We end this segment with Toby: "I got a *in' car".

Inside the mansion, the finale four find portraits of themselves on the wall with the SN bands memorabilia. Toby's picture was when he was on stage with the girls during Rebel Yell. Toby points to the picture and says, that girl is from Melbourne. Magni laughs and says, how do you know? Toby says, That's Ashley, Magni OMG he knows their names. Toby says he's just been having parties on stage.

The picture of Lukas was from Creep. Each picture captured their personalities. Magni was bent over in a scream. Dilana was in her hoodie sweatshirt in a scary pose. Toby says, he loves to be amongst the people, Magni is just intense, Lukas is a showman, and Dilana is just this scary mysterious chick. Lukas says it captured them as they truly are. Magni said they got a lot of stuff, phones, clothes, cars...those are just things, but the photo will be with him forever. Toby picked on Lukas about the way Lukas' face was contorted in the picture, he said it was humanly impossible to do that. Then they all tried.

For song selection there sits a foot tall stack of every song from the show. Lukas reads the letter that says here it is the final show, they will be performing their original song again. The second song will be their choice from the 150 or so songs in this season's library. They were happy, and took the stack to the pool deck to go through and hash out who wants which song. Magni asks, Who doesn't want to do Duran Duran? Matt I still love you. The four went through the songs remembering who sang them. Toby says he'll take Zayra's song 8675309, Dilana says he has to wear Zayra's outfit if he does that song, Toby says yeah, totally. Don't Panic, Toby and Magni mimic Lukas singing the song. Lukas says to Toby here's something for you, Karma Police, Toby says he wants that one. Magni says he has Comfortably Numb, Lukas says YEAH and Dilana wants Magni to play it so she can hear it. Lukas says he wants it and Dilana yells Dude. They start to hash it out, Lukas states he gives in and hasn't fought for a song and always has taken the other song. Dilana cries some more about how it's the only one she wants. Lukas states this is the last selection and it's the most important one of all. He grew up on Comfortably Numb. Magni asks about Fix You and Lukas says he already did Coldplay. Magni plays Fix You on the guitar. After singing along Lukas gives in one more time and says Dilana can have the song, he'll take Fix You. He says he didn't want to fight and she can have it, EVS. If you can't sing every song, and we literally had every song, why are you here? Lukas asks.

Back to the table, Dilana asks for Roxanne to check out the lyrics, Toby tells her do Comfortably Numb babe. Dilana picks Roxanne after taking Comfortably Numb from Lukas. Bitch, yes, it's still all about Dilana. Then she whines about having to do it right because it's a classic. Magni says that's ok, someone already screwed that one up on the show. Dilana asks Lukas if he wants Comfortably Numb back, he says no. Then she proceeds into an all about me spiel, when she saw the choice of Roxanne in the first few weeks she would have never chose that song. She is elated she made the choice of doing Roxanne, then states she hopes SN loves it and it wasn't a stupid move on her part. Dilana says she can't believe she's doing two Sting songs on the show, Magni comes in with well you haven't yet. Dilana, "I can't believe I'm doing Roxanne, dude, is there something wrong with me?" Magni: "Yes".

Off to the rehearsal studios. Lukas singing Fix You. He tells us how the song is sad and it reminds him of his relationship with his father. If his father hears, he wants his dad to know he's thinking bout him, and just try to fix what ever was broken.

Dilana tells the band how she wants the song arranged. She wants to do an unplugged version. Dilana tells us they are going to show Chris Pierson how to do this song now. Then she tells us how Chris screwed up rearranging a classic hit, and how it was a mistake. She won't mess up the song. Paul comes on and isn't too sure of the way Dilana wants to change the song. The band looks bored and in pain while she changes the song. Paul states the way she wants them to play it, he personally doesn't care for it. Music is subjective, but she believes in it, she likes it. Dilana tells us she is not screwing the song up and she has total confidence in it.

Toby plays his acoustic guitar and sings Karma Police through the next segment. Magni packing tells us he will miss hanging out with these guys, but, he is going home and he misses those people as well. Jump to Dilana packing, she says it's sad they may never see each other again. She loves these guys, they are like her brothers, the family she never had, so she now has a family. To Lukas packing: Lukas says all he wants to pack up are the memories and take them along with him. It's all overwhelming and it's over in a few days. Someone's life is going to change for the better. Then music still playing, Toby packs his Aussie flag. Toby says looking back this has been the best time of his life. But he's keeping his eyes on the prize, his focus is to front SN.

Dilana doesn't want to think about this being the end, it's so emotional, she wishes it could go on forever. Cut to the pool the four rockers stand at the end leaning on their Gibson guitars in their cases, just taking in the mansion they are leaving. Magni says he got to play with SN and it's out of his hands now, it's up to SN. It ends with Dilana stating she needs Supernova, and Supernova needs her. Let's go! The rockers leave the pool deck, guitars and bags in hand. Lukas comes on and states he's absolutely ready to win this. He wouldn't have come here if he didn't think he was the right person for the job. Toby says he feels like he's climbing toward joining SN. The song ends and so does part three.

Part four, clips of the rockers from last week.

The four back on the pool deck, Dilana spanking Toby with her crutch. Toby yells "OH do it again." A new scene and Toby is trying to give Dilana a drink of beer from his glass and ends up wearing it. Someone says we love you hop along as Dilana jumps along the pool and then jumps in. Followed by Magni and toby jumping in. Toby has Dilana over his shoulder, with her *in his ear he says "let's cook some bacon." as he tries to put her foot in one of the torches. But Dilana stops him by putting her hands down the back of his pants. Jump to the two of them in the pool, shaking hands, Toby says "I can see it". Dilana says "I can see yours". Then Toby says he's surprised because he didn't think she was a girl. Magni says Where the heck is Lukas, Cut to Lukas snoring on his bed.

The End

'Panic' plan for Rock Star finalist

Toronto singer plans solo surprise for reality show finale

There was never any doubt that Lukas Rossi would strut his way to the final four on Rock Star: Supernova.

From the very beginning last June, the Toronto singer has had the look, voice and especially the 'tude. Except for stumbling into the bottom three last week -- when showy Storm Large was eliminated -- he's always looked like the frontrunner.

Now he has a great shot at succeeding another Canuck -- INXS's J.D. Fortune -- as Rock Star champion.

In Wednesday night's finale, he'll have to beat Australian Toby Rand, Iceland-native Magni Asgeirsson, and South African-born, Houston-based Dilana Robichaux, all trying to become the lead singer of the new group Supernova. Drummer Tommy Lee (Motley Crue), guitarist Gilby Clarke (Guns N' Roses) and bassist Jason Newsted (Metallica) will make their choice.

Rossi told The Toronto Sun Monday night that he is confident going into the final. "I think we have to be at this point, man," he said on the phone from the stage of the show in Los Angeles. "We've come so far that to not feel confident at this point would be a pretty detrimental thing."

He described a bold plan to make one last statement on the final performance hour: To sing Coldplay's Don't Panic -- a cappella. "I just want to try something new," he says. "The boys in Supernova, they're looking for a singer, right? They know I can perform. I just gotta showcase my true voice, not be covered up by the band."

Win or lose, Rossi says he'll look back on this summer as the best one that "I've ever had or ever will have." After 13 weeks cooped up in the Rock Star mansion, he's anxious to get out, "although I'll miss the keg," he says.

http://jam.canoe.ca/Television/2006/09/12/1830248-sun.html

I HATE Lukas. He's horrible...and he ruined Don't Panic last time. This time is going to be even worse!

Dave

Yes, Lukas does suck. In my opinion he has a terrible voice, but hes singing a Coldplay song. I hope he does good!

I thought Lukas did an okay performance and I do want him to win out of the four left.

But I thought Dilana's performance of Roxanne was killer !

^^^ Were we hearing the same thing? He was terrible. Like...even pitchy. It was just horrible. Worse than Don't Panic by a mile!

Arrr!! I Hope he goes!

Dave

Really. I dunno, I may be a bit biased cos I'm rooting for the Canadian...

but I do agree the beginning was a bit pitchy, though the end got better IMHO

Lukas' performance of Fix You was pretty awful, the ending got a bit better.. I just don't know what the judges see in him. Although I don't like Dilana I think she had the best performance of the night. Toby deserves to win since, in my opinion, he fits the band perfectly, BUT, I am cheering for Magni! GO MAGNI!

well at ehw end of the show it was Delana, toby, lucas, magni in that order...we will find out tomm evening

Rock Star: Supernova - Week 11

brooke_burke.jpg

My name is Raul Burriel, a veteran of last season's Rock Star: INXS recaps. Joining us for this round table is Sheila Franklin.

Raul says: Even the best reality shows eventually start to wear thin and the end comes as a relief. Tonight is part one of the Rock Star: Supernova finale. Tomorrow, we learn who gets to be the lead singer of the new rock band Supernova.

The show starts with a performance from the winner of the online voting. The eliminated contestant who gets to come back and perform is Ryan Star, who repeats his original song "Back of My Car." After the performance, host Brooke Burke rewards him with a new Honda CRV (man, they're just handing those cars out to anybody!) Ryan also reminds us that his new album, Dark Horse (taking its name from the monicker Dave Navarro gave him) is now available at MSN Music.

After a recap of "the road to the finale" in which we saw how each of the final four made it to where they are, it's time for the performances. Each rocker will perform two songs, a cover and the same original song they performed last week.

Sheila says: During the online reality episode, Dilana makes a comment that is music to my ears, at least, "One of us will be singing with Supernova in just eight days." I love reality shows and the tension that builds as competitors are eliminated, but there were so many times I felt like there could have been at least one more double-elimination.

Mig Ayesa, from Rock Star: INXS delivers Toby's new car while he slips in yet another commercial for the Honda. I kept waiting for them to jump into it and go for a spin.

The rockers are trying out "Comfortably Numb" and there is some fine harmony going on. Hey, there's that word "ginormous" again. Storm is still with us, if only in spirit. The finalists should really get together with The House Band after Supernova is done with them. That would be truly awesome.

Dilana has decided to do an unplugged version of "Roxanne". Music is truly a subjective thing, but we have learned in this competition that if The House Band isn't comfortable with a different rendition of a classic, things may not go well for the singer who chooses to screw with it.

Finally, while Toby practices "Karma Police", we get some nice Kodak moments of the four finalists packing up and hanging out for the last time together at the pool.

Ryan gets the fave fan award tonight for his original song "Back of My Car". His performance is so much better now that he doesn't have the stress of competing. This is a killer song and I bet someone will release it. Sure enough, after he finishes the number, he announces that it is being released on his first CD "Dark Horse" and is already available online. (Are we good or what?) He is also given a new Honda. That's a pretty good perk considering how much he is already worth to the Supernova/Navarro "organization".

The recap of the season is at times amusing and probably embarrassing for the "Supernova-ettes." Some of those early performances, like those of Magni's, must have been really uncomfortable for them to watch. I finally learned what EVS means, though.

Toby - "Karma Police" and "Karma Police"

Raul says: Knowing that he gets to - once again - perform his super-popular "Throw it Away" as his original song, Toby goes softer for his first song, Radiohead's "Karma Police." This is his opportunity to show off his singing chops to Supernova, knowing that with his second song, he can show off his showmanship. "Karma Police" isn't going to win him any votes from the home viewer. It's just not that well known and doesn't have a peppy up-tempo beat.

But then Toby gets to sing "Throw it Away" (for the third time in two weeks!) He invites Magni on stage to play guitar and the two just have great chemistry together. Earlier in the season, Dilana and Ryan had an argument over whether there could be two winners on the show. Tonight, I'm hoping there can be two winners, and that those winners are Toby and Magni.

Sheila says: Back to the elimination at hand. Toby takes the stage first, with his version of "Karma Police". Amidst groupie drooling, methinks that Toby has had some showmanship lessons. He unbuttons his jacket, takes off his shades, and in general sets himself up for the real song, "The Uh-oh Song." Inviting Magni to join him (thus proving once again that Magni is the best all-around musician), he sharpies EVS on the back of his head. Magni returns the favor by pretending he is going to break his guitar, but we know you can't treat a Gibson like that. Instead, he hands it to Toby in a true sportsmanlike move. Supernova, of course, loves everything about his performance. Sign him up, already!

Lukas - "Fix You" and "Headspin"

Raul says: Taking a page from Toby's book, Lukas goes with a technical performance for his first song, trying to show off his singing chops, but given that a great deal of this Coldplay song is sung in falsetto, the first minute is just ackwardly painful. As he hits the chorus, Lukas changes up the song a big and picks up the tempo (fortunately, no more falsetto!)

Lukas should have gone with a fan favorite for his first performance since he knows already that Supernova likes his original song, "Headspin" (which he, too, has performed three times in two weeks), and it's a very technically diverse song. The problem with "Headspin" is that it doesn't have the same energy as Toby's "Throw it Away" so he's not finishing on a high note like Toby. To further damage his prospects, Lukas goes acoustic.

Sheila says: Lukas takes the stage next and, with the usual strut, gets into "Fix You" which he had explained previously he had chosen because of his dad, who was "hard to deal with." It's sort of a let-down after "The Uh-Oh Song." He then goes on to sing his third rendition of "Headspin." Is this the only song he has ever written? I go off to get something to munch on. When I come back, Navarro is commenting on its originality and Tommy says "Cool as hell." And look! There's Paula Abdul! What is she doing waaay in the back? No matter, mention her 3 times and it's like a charm.

Dilana - "Roxanne" and "Supersoul"

Raul says: Starting a capella (and dressed like the new mistress of darkness in a black velvet corset and micro mini), Dilana's version of the classic Police song never ventures beyond acoustic. The highlight is the chorus when the boys (Toby, Magni and Lukas) accompany Dilana. The whole time, though, you expect her to explode into a full blown rendition of the song... which never comes. It's a disappointing performance. I'm left wondering if it's half a song.

Then Dilana gives us her original song, "Supersoul", which didn't do her any favors last week. Her torn calf muscle seems to have healed well as she borrows from Toby and travels all over the studio. Certainly more energy than her performance of "Roxanne", but not nearly the levels of every she has given us in the past, and still only second best to Toby tonight.

Sheila says: Dilana shows off her pipes during "Roxanne". I like this interpretation, even if The House Band wasn't impressed. This is the first time I could understand the lyrics. For her original "Supersoul" she wisely gets her fellow rockers to back her up, then wanders among the audience. She never quite made it as far as Paula Abdul, though. Tommy, as always, is her #1 fan. I lip-read him saying, "That was hot."

Magni - "Hush" and "When the Time Comes"

Raul says: Magni's not holding anything back tonight. It seems he knows now that despite Dilana's front runner status, the competition is now between him and Toby. He starts off rockin' with Deep Purple's "Hush". He seems to break a string on his guitar half way through the performance and just keeps going, like a real pro. This is a guy I can picture standing in front of Supernova.

Trying to lock up his place in the finale, Magni reminds us that this is the last song of the evening, "so... go nuts!" He certainly gives us plenty of opportunity to do so. Remember that two weeks ago, this song only existed in Icelandic. Tonight, it's a rockin' fun time for everyone involved. Both Jason Newsted and Tommy Lee point out that Magni's original isn't as memorable as the other original songs tonight (that is to say, the chorus isn't as catchy), but it certainly kept the audience jumpin'.

Sheila says: Great rendition of "Hush" by Magni, but then I like everything that he does. When Magni sings his original "When the time Comes" once more, Tommy Lee looks on bored. He even pans the performance saying that "he can't even remember it". Can this be subliminal messaging to the home voting audience?

Final Thoughts

Raul says: A guy from Australia, a guy from Iceland, a guy from Canada, and a girl from South Africa. That's who we have left. From that group, one person will be chosen tomorrow to be the lead singer of Supernova. But before then, one person will be eliminated based on viewer voting. Initial voting indicates that Dilana is on top, followed by Toby, Lukas and Magni. I'm surprised that Magni is at the bottom, given that he was the last performer and that usually gives a person a boost in votes. I'm more surprised to see Dilana on top. I was hoping that her precipitous fall would continue. My favorites, based on tonight's performances are Toby (two solid songs) and Magni (one solid song and one OK song.) Lukas's "Headspin" just doesn't work for me (too emotional) and his rearranging of Coldplay's "Fix You" just reminds us all that he thinks he's better than some songs and just will refuse to do certain things. And Dilana... well, put her in a band with Tommy Lee, Jason Newsted and Gilby Clarke and they'll look like an odd mix, like Shirley Manson and Garbage, except that the last thing Supernova wants is to be known as the backing group for Dilana. Remember, an opera singer has great pipes, too, but that doesn't make her right for Supernova. The best fit, physically, is probably Magni. The best fit, musically, is probably Toby. Lukas could take Supernova is some directions they didn't expect and don't want. Dilana could introduce them to entirely new audiences they may not be seeking.

Sheila says: Once again we have hit the nail on the head. Magni is at the bottom of the list, Dilana being on the top. I suspect that may be partially due to the fact that she is the only surviving female. Reading the whole thing right to left, with the exclusion of Dilana, pretty much sums up what I believe will be the remaining male eliminations: Magni, Lukas. And there, at the top of the Supernova heap, is Toby.

Rockstar Supernova's Final Four

Magni0906.jpg

There were more signs that Rockstar: Supernova is becoming as cheesy as American Idol. First, fans voted and brought back kicked off rocker Ryan Star to sing his original -- and very romantic -- song "Back of Your Car." For his trouble, Ryan won a new, fully loaded Honda CRV. Hostess Brooke Burke then had to channel her inner Bob Barker to explain all the car's features since it was just sitting there in the midde of the crowd.

Secondly, Paula Abdul was seen in the studio audience sucking up someone else's 15 minutes of fame.

'Nuff said on that. So now let's get onto the music.

The last four rockers -- Toby, Lukas, Dilana and Magni -- all stepped up and sang as if their lives depended on it. LAist thought for sure that the Supernova boys (Tommy Lee, Jason Newsted and Gilby Clarke) would have an easy time picking a clear-cut winner, but now we're not so sure:

>> Toby's energetic original "Throw It Away" made up for a just OK version of Radiohead's "Karma Police."

>> Lukas turned down his guttural wail for Coldplay's "Fix You" and we liked it a lot. He sang his orginal tune "Headspin" as a solo acoustic performance -- and that one we didn't. For two reasons. First, Lukas showed the world that he's not a guitar virtuoso. Secondly, his performance also showed that "Headspin" needs to be fully amped to be fully appreciated.

>> Dilana arguably turned in the best performance of the night with a stripped down version of "Roxanne." We cringed when we first heard the song choice becase it gave us flashbacks of her piss-poor version of "Psycho Killer." She pulled it off -- and then some. Even her original "Super Soul" is beginning to grow on us.

>> Closing out the show was Magni, the Icelandic rocker. Tommy Lee offered the only critical comment of the night when he said that Magni's orginal "When the Time Comes" wasn't as memorable as the other rockers. But we think that Magni's smoking performance of "Hush" by Deep Purple more than made up for it. (Maybe Magni and the house band guitarist can give Lukas some lessons?)

So tomorrow night, Supernova the television show comes to a close, and Supernova the band chooses a lead singer. LAist wonders if he or she will get the keys to a brand new, tricked out Honda CRV, too?

Brass, attitude buoy Rossi going into Rock Star final

The Canadian has a great chance of succeeding fellow Canuck J. D. Fortune of INXS as champion.

There was never any doubt that Lukas Rossi would strut his way to the final four on Rock Star: Supernova. (Tonight's one hour finale begins at 8 p.m.)

From the very beginning last June, the Toronto singer has had the look, voice and especially the 'tude. Except for stumbling into the bottom three last week -- when showy Storm Large was eliminated -- he's always looked like the frontrunner. He has a great shot at succeeding another Canuck -- INXS's J. D. Fortune -- as the Rock Star champion.

Tonight, he'll have to beat Australian Toby Rand, Iceland-native Magni Asgeirsson, and South African-born, Houston-based Dilana Robichaux, all trying to become the lead singer of the new group Supernova. Drummer Tommy Lee (Motley Crue), guitarist Gilby Clarke (Guns N' Roses) and bassist Jason Newsted (Metallica) will make their choice.

Rossi is confident going into the final. "I think we have to be at this point, man," he said on the phone from the stage of the show in Los Angeles. "We've come so far that to not feel confident at this point would be a pretty detrimental thing."

At times, Rossi's confidence seemed like cockiness. During a visit by critics to the Rock Star mansion last July, Rossi seemed so locked into his own creation -- spiky skunk 'do, heavy eyeliner, permanent sneer -- that some critics wondered if he was for real.

Other contestants, too, rolled their eyes and made faces when his name was mentioned. Rossi's standoffish, rock star stance was getting on more than a few nerves.

He seemed to pull the ultimate prima donna act by sitting out an impromptu jam session put on for critics last July at the 80-year-old Hollywood estate that doubles as the Rock Star mansion. Every other contestant got up and rocked with the House Band and the three Supernova stars.

Was Rossi playing mind games that night? He claims he was just tired. "That was right after the show, correct? I just wanted to rest my voice, collect."

Throughout the competition, Rossi has kept his focus. It has taken him this far, he says, and he's not about to quit now.

He had a bold plan to make one last statement on the final performance hour: To sing Coldplay's Don't Panic -- a cappella.

He found the Supernova trio to be "great guys, considering all the fame. They could be arrogant but they're not, they're awesome, cool guys."

Rossi went to Chaminade high school in northwest Toronto and worked for a time as a fry cook at Hooters on Keele Street. "I didn't work there for the chicken wings if you know what I mean," he said.

His punk veneer may be more shield than stance. He's earned some of it from touring with groups such as Tea Party, Papa Roach, Edwin and I Mother Earth. At one time he was even repped by Canadian Idol judge Zack Werner.

"He supported me when I was a little s--- on the street," Rossi told me last July. "Kudos to Zack, man, tell him to cut his hair."

And while he loves his home and native land ("Love Canada, man. Never forget Canada"), don't look for cheering family members in tonight's audience. The 29-year-old is not close to his kin. "Hard upbringing, man," is all he offers. "When this is over, I'm going to try to make things better."

Maybe now he has the tools. Asked what he has learned from being on Rock Star, Rossi says, "I've learned that people are fragile, you know?" Living under a microscope on TV can be stressful, he adds. "We're all here together, not just on this show, on the planet."
