After waiting SOOOOO long to see them (bought the tickets last September as soon as they were announced), we finally got to see Coldplay last night.... and they were fantastic. My hubbies b-day as well :)

Such a tight band, and Jon can even carry on playing guitar when Chris drags him down to the floor. Lucky it was an easy progression he was playing while laying on his back with Chris (no, no dirty thoughts ok?... they`re just friends :) ).

Chris is the consummate entertainer/nutter. I think he must be easily bored so he`s trying to entertain himself as much as the crowd. Jumping around, chucking wild `shapes`, cracking jokes, running. It`s like he has a cup of speed before going onstage. It`s brilliant! The other guys are far more reserved (not much choice as they`re more slaves to their instruments) but it`s great to see how much energy Will put`s into his drums.... beating them into submission, and Jon gyrating. Guy, he`s a far quieter figure on stage, but that probably lends him this superhero mystique. They all look great and Coldplay have presence (which sadly imho Youth Group don`t yet, but that may be because it was the first time I`d really heard them (except for `Forever Young` on RAGE, but that`s not their song anyway. Would love to hear a Coldplay cover of a nice Alphaville song.... wonder if they could handle "The Jet Set" ?), but what`s more important is that Coldplay played hot, not cold at all. Fantastic musicians.... what a sound.

Chris is so funny :) He told this story of why they`re so grounded..... When they had played 3 gigs in a row in Madison Square Gardens, and were apparently one of the biggest bands in the world, he was down at the beach (they have a decent beach in NY??) and a guy with his kid came up and said how great they were etc etc, and also mentioned that the Wiggles had played there for 9 gigs in a row. So there`s always someone better than you. :)

I`d heard that the Burswood Dome was the murderer of sound (apparently anyone who plays there sound terrible), but I`m guessing it must be the area you`re in, as the sound was great where we were (GA ... right in front of the stage). We got there about 6pm (concert due at 7:45), and there were already loads of people camped out, staking out their area`s. So we sat down as close as we could and waited. Even then, you get rude people pushing and barging in front of you and blocking your view. Lucky I`m tall, or I would have had to Kung-Fu some asses. Must buy a cattle prod for the next concert I go to.....

Youth Group cam on at 7:45 or so, and they were ok. Not bad, not brilliant songs, except for the 3rd and 2nd last original songs, which I think sound ALOT better than what they annouced and played as their next single. Like I said... it may take a bit more familiarity with them to appreciate their music (just like Coldplay, funnily enough..... growers). They did a great job though and were very professional... a good choice as support. It was a bittersweet concert for them, they said, as it was the last one for them and it had been a great tour with Coldplay, who they thanked deeply.

Coldplay played most of the songs you know and love, but a notable exception for us was "Amsterdam". We got a cover of Johnny Cash`s "Ring of Fire", so would like to hear the "Can`t Get You Out Of My Head" cover sometime if possible. My husband would like to hear the A-Ha cover ("Take On Me") as he used to be a fan of theirs (he has no taste sometimes, oh well..).

It`s a pity we don`t know how to meet Coldplay here in Perth, as I would have loved to let my 2yr old Coldplay freak daughter (Damaris Aubrey Fire Storm) meet them. So if anyone has any info on where they`re staying etc :)

We took some pics and stuff, which I`ll try to put up soon.....

Hi Mandy.

Great review!!! I downloaded some of your mp3s. I have no soundcard in my 'puter so I'll burn them tomorrow...don't worry, I won't sell 'em...lol. I'll PM you with feedback if you like. I have a couple of songs on my website...the link's in my sig...I'd love to hear your thoughts if you have time. I love meeting other musicians on the site because I know we all share at least one common influence!!! Again, thanks for an awesome review!!

Mandy is saying Amsterdam wasnt played....

Yeah, unfortunately 2 of my favourite songs weren`t played...."Amsterdam" and "Careful Where You Stand".

I have a friend and former band member in the UK who has seen Coldplay live 6 or 7 times. He`s the pianist/lead vocalist in a Coldplay tribute band called "Coolplay", which has been going for about 5 years....

Feel free to check out my songs, and spread them far and wide if you like them. I didn`t have enough confidence to push myself on people too much, so I`ll just let the music speak for me. If anyone would like to sponsor me to get them recorded properly :) I`d even let Coldplay play them if they asked nicely :)

Can someone tell me if the setlist was the usual setlist ?
