Christian militia army financed and trained by Israel with a view to control the Israeli security zone in the South of Lebanon.

The beginning of the civil war in 1975-76 was a decisive turning point. Israel intervened directly with the Christian forces under the command of Major Sa'ad Haddad following the break-up of the Lebanese army in 1976.

In March 1978, the Israeli invasion of the South of Lebanon lasted three months. It was not until June and only following strong pressure that Israeli withdrawal was followed by the deployment of UNIFIL, except on a strip of land of 100 km long and 8 to 20 km wide from Maqoura on the Mediterranean coast along the border with Israel up to Mount Hermon and the Litani River. This enclave with a population of 100,000 (60% Shiite Muslims and 35% Christians) was placed under the leadership of Major Haddad and his 2,000 militia men, strongly backed by Israeli advisors. In May 1980 Haddad's militia became known as the "South Lebanon Army" (SLA). In January 1984, Antoine Lahad replaced Saad Haddad.

Israeli and SLA forces have co-operated ever since in combatting Hezbollah. The SLA (whose present strength is estimated between 5,000 and 10,000 soldiers) advocate for a pro-Western Lebanon and devoid of Syrian presence. Israel demands that the SLA be re-incorporated into the regular Lebanese Army as a precondition for making peace with Lebanon while the Lebanese government sees the SLA militiamen as traitors. In June 1999, after the election of Ehud Barak as Prime Minister of Israel, the SLA started withdrawing from the northernmost part of the so-called "Security Zone", the Jezzine area of which it took control in 1985.

The 1939 Danzig Massacres

The Polish Bolsheviks kill 58,000 German Nationals in the Danzig corridor

In the months leading up to the German invasion the Polish Army and independent Bolshevik units had been slaughtering German nationals in the Danzig corridor. Mass killings of thousands of civilian ethnic Germans (Volksdeutsche) by both civilian and Russian NDVK Jews, who were confident that Poland would quickly defeat Germany. Many apparently expected to take possession of German farms and businesses. An estimated 58,000 German civilians lost their lives in the massacres carried out prior to the 1939 invasion.

Poles had been merrily slaughtering anything or anybody German since at least as early as April 1939, with smaller incidents stretching back to the close of WW I -- you haven't been told that by the Mass Media, or the fact that these atrocities were one of the main causes for the German invasion of Poland.

Germany had protesting in writing to the League of Nations literally dozens of times with no results.

*is speechless*

LINK PLEASE!, cant find anything on this off google or wiki.

I'd love to know where he gets his info from. A muslim version of prisonplanet but far worse,

Wow this is seriously embarrasing. Wtf is wrong with you? You're giving us a bad name, as a muslim and an egyptian, I feel highly ashamed of knowing that I have people in my country and my religon who still think like that! Why are you dragging Egypt in it anyways? For fuck's sake, we're the one's who couldnt even beat Israel in a war so went and made peace with them AGES ago! If you completly agree with your country's decision, then you might as well agree that making peace with Israel is the best decision too. When is this ever going to stop? The only reason Israel is going around having on and off wars with Palestein, Lebanon and all that is because they cant find land! If all the countries just grew up and welcomed Israel in their own country as if they were one of us, we wouldnt have to face that problem in the first place!

Now the entire terrorism acts, I mean give me a break, its us muslims who go around doing it nowadays and its just fucked up, since the entire 9/11 situation and our name has become stamped to the terrorism acts, Osama Bin Laden and that shit, now come up right now and tell me that you agree with what he did, to kill all these innocent people! This is not what our religon told us to do, our religon taught us to be peaceful with all nations. Now if you're such an expert with Islam, then you should know that Prophet Mohamed freed the Jewish and not punished a single one of them after that war they had finished, "azhabo we antom tolaka" so if our own Prophet did that with the Jewish, then why cant we be peaceful too.

I really have nothing more to say, I just find this purely humiliating that someone of my own country and religon to think that way.

At first,it's amazing how you live in Egypt and it's suppose to know the truth,so I will till you few things

My friend trying to say something, maybe he exaggerating a little bit.

How you say that We didn't defeated Israel,do you remember 1973 ? so,if we didn't defeated Israel, could you explain to me how Egypt bring back sinai.Of caurse Israel didn't left it for God sake, they belt Barlief line and we destroyed it and I think you watch or listen to the Sadat speech 1977 and told them that into their faces.Egypt made a peace with Israel to start negotiations to bring back the Arab lands not to freeze the situation. So if any people didn't find a land, they go and occupied the others lands [ what a great solution ].Why the Arab land,if the western love the Jews why they didn't offer a land in their nations [ when I invite you to a lunch,we eat at my house not the other houses ] and how the nations grew up and welcome Israel and Israel occupied their land. But this problem solved many Arab countries admit Israel existence and we ready to live in peace with Israel but it in one condition, when Israel withdraw from all lands which occupied at 1967 including Jerusalem.

Do you think that the muslims clapping for Bin Ladin or any terrorist?of caurse not.Didn't forget that those terrorists attacked us before them, they acted many terror actions in Egypt and didn't forget WHO make them

I hope you understand me

OMG. Are you really that stupid? That was not a victory - you won a small battle and lost the war.

As i said earlier:

Israel was shocked and unprepared for the war. After the initial confusion and near panic in Israel followed by the infusion of United States weaponry, Israel was able to counterattack and succeeded in crossing to the west bank of the canal and surrounding the Egyptian Third Army. With the Third Army surrounded, Sadat appealed to the Soviet Union for help. Soviet prime minister Alexei Kosygin believed he had obtained the American acceptance of a cease-fire through Henry Kissinger, United States secretary of state. On October 22, the UN Security Council passed Resolution 338, calling for a cease-fire by all parties within twelve hours in the positions they occupied. Egypt accepted the cease-fire, but Israel, alleging Egyptian violations of the cease-fire, completed the encirclement of the Third Army to the east of the canal. By nightfall on October 23, the road to Suez, the Third Army's only supply line, was in Israeli hands, cutting off two divisions and 45,000 men.

You guys were on the verge of being thrashed!, no wonder you betrayed your allies!

Which was only given back becasue the Americans made them give it back!

read the pages thorughout this thread.

Why? generous from USA

Why they didn't asked Israel to bring back sinai when they occpied it,Is the war necessary to make the decision?

Its been mentioned earlier in the thread.

The obvious reason for choosing the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur for staging a surprise attack on Israel was that on this specific day (unlike any other holiday) the country comes to a complete standstill. On Yom Kippur, not only observant, but most secular Jews fast, abstain from any use of fire, electricity, engines, communications, etc., and all road traffic comes to a standstill. Many soldiers leave military facilities for home during the holiday and Israel is most vulnerable, especially with much of its army demobilized. The war also coincided with the Muslim holiday of Ramadan, meaning that many of the Muslims soldiers were also fasting.

Egypt's trapped Third Army

When the cease fire came into effect, Israel had lost territory on the east side of the Suez Canal to Egypt (shown in red) but gained territory west of the canal and in the Golan Heights (shown in green).

The Security Council of the United Nations passed (14-0) Resolution 338 calling for a cease-fire, largely negotiated between the U.S. and Soviet Union, on October 22. It called for an end to the fighting between Israel and Egypt (but technically not between Syria and Israel). It came into effect 12 hours later at 6:52 p.m. Israeli time. (Rabinovich, 452). Because it went into effect after darkness, it was impossible for satellite surveillance to determine where the front lines were when the fighting was supposed to stop (Rabinovich, 458).

When the cease-fire began, the Israeli forces were just a few hundred meters short of their goal—the last road linking Cairo and Suez. During the night, the Egyptians broke the cease-fire in a number of locations, destroying nine Israeli tanks. In response, David Elazar requested permission to resume the drive south, and Moshe Dayan approved (Rabinovich, 463). The Israeli troops finished the drive south, captured the road, and trapped the Egyptian Third Army east of the Suez Canal.

The next morning, October 23, a flurry of diplomatic activity occurred. Soviet reconnaissance flights had confirmed that Israeli forces were moving south, and the Soviets accused the Israelis of treachery. In a phone call with Golda Meir, Henry Kissinger asked, "how can anyone ever know where a line is or was in the desert?" Meir responded, "they'll know, all right." Kissinger found out about the trapped Egyptian army shortly thereafter. (Rabinovich, 465).

Kissinger realized the situation presented the United States with a tremendous opportunity—Egypt was totally dependent on the United States to prevent Israel from destroying its trapped army, which now had no access to food or water. The position could be parlayed later into allowing the United States to mediate the dispute, and push Egypt out of Soviet influences.

As a result, the United States exerted tremendous pressure on the Israelis to refrain from destroying the trapped army, even threatening to support a UN resolution to force the Israelis to pull back to their October 22 positions if they did not allow non-military supplies to reach the army. In a phone call with Israeli ambassador Simcha Dinitz, Kissinger told the ambassador that the destruction of the Egyptian Third Army "is an option that does not exist" (Rabinovich, 487).

In the pictures you can see who controlled what after the war before the peace settlement.

Inthe second you can see Israelis giving food and water to the trapped Egyptian army. Rather humilitating if you ask me - Needing your enemies your to save your life.

Really,Israel helped the third Army. Why? to fight them

So if Israel very kind country, why they occupied Sinai and built Barlief Line?

Why did Israel want the Sinai? Because it made for a great buffer zone - much better to fight in the desert than on Israeli soil.

And they couldnt just let them starve to death could they?
