busybeeburns
Sheffield scorchers Arctic Monkeys are the red hot favourites to sweep up at the Q Awards later this month. The band, who won this year's Mercury Music Prize, have been nominated in four of the six categories at the prestigious bash. Bookies Paddy Power put the Arctics odds on at 8/11 to win Best Album, 6/4 to take Best Track with I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor and 1/3 to win Best New Act. They're also up for Best Live Act alongside Oasis, Razorlight, Muse and Red Hot Chili Peppers. U2 have secured yet another nomination this year for Best Act In The World Today. Paddy Power make them 2/1, second only to last year’s winners Coldplay who are the favourites at 7/4. Paddy Power himself told us: "2006 has been The Arctic Monkey’s year. I think it’s fair to say they’re the biggest British band since Oasis and it looks like they’re going to cement their reputation at the awards. If they don’t clean up at the Q Awards I’ll be very surprised!" The Q Awards take place on October 30 will be hosted by Jonathan Ross for the third year in a row. The nominees, and their odds, are: Best Album: Arctic Monkeys - 8/11 Razorlight - 11/4 Snow Patrol - 6/1 Kasabian - 8/1 Muse - 14/1 Keane - 25/1 Best New Act: Arctic Monkeys - 1/3 The Kooks - 5/1 Corrine Bailey Rae - 6/1 Lily Allen - 10/1 Orson - 20/1 Best Track: I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor (Arctic Monkeys) - 6/4 Chasing Cars (Snow Patrol) - 11/4 Crazy (Gnarls Barkley) - 3/1 I Don't Feel Like Dancing (Scissor Sisters) - 10/3 Never Be Lonely (The Feeling) - 16/1 Best Act in the World Today: Coldplay - 7/4 U2 - 2/1 The Red Hot Chili Peppers - 2/1 Oasis - 9/1 Muse - 16/1 Best Live Act: Arctic Monkeys - 3/2 Razorlight - 11/4 Oasis - 4/1 Muse - 5/1 Red Hot Chili Peppers - 5/1 Best Video: When You Were Young (The Killers) I Don't Feel Like Dancing (Scissor Sisters) Empire (Kasabian) Smiley Faces (Gnarls Barkley) Why Won't You Give Me Your Love? Flying Sparks
Maybe I'm stupid, but what do these numbers mean? Some sort of percentage or probability? :S
Ondes Martenot
Maybe I'm stupid' date=' but what do these numbers mean? Some sort of percentage or probability? :S[/quote'] 7/4 = 7:4 = 1.75 2/1 = 2:1 = 2.0 9/1 = 9:1 = 9.0 it means: let's say, you have 10$ and you want to bet them on Coldplay's win. you put 10$ and if Coldplay win you get 10x1.75=17.5$ back, if you bet on U2 - you get 10x2.0=20$ back, if you put your 10$ on Oasis and they win, you get back: 10x9.0=90$ logically, Coldplay have more chances to win after their last year's success, that's why their multiplying factor is lower (7/4=1.75) than U2's (2/1=2.0) or Muse's (16/1=16.0)
