A beach wedding for cocaine Kate and junkie Pete?

Kate Moss is planning to marry her drug-addict boyfriend Pete Doherty in Thailand, reports suggested last night.

As the New Year dawned on the island of Phuket, there were persistent rumours that the 32-year-old model was about to wed.

An insider at the Amanpuri Hotel said: 'Senior management at the hotel have been told that the couple are having a romantic, bohemian- style beach wedding. Family and friends have been invited.'

Doherty is currently serving a twoyear supervision order for drugs offences.

Probation sources said that he would have had to inform his probation officer if he planned to take a long-distance trip overseas.

Such a trip might entail him missing a regular appointment with the officer.

Rock singer Doherty has not, however, had to surrender his passport as part of his conditions because he is an 'entertainer' and requires it to work abroad.

The couple saw in the New Year on the steps of the hotel, watching a £100,000 firework display.

Wearing a gold cocktail dress Miss Moss looked on as her suited boyfriend - wearing a bowler hat - posed for photographs.

Also present was the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, and her daughters Beatrice, 18, and 16-year- old Eugenie, who later joined Miss Moss in the hotel for more champagne.

Flanked by the two princesses, the Duchess retired to her room shortly before 1am, within minutes of Miss Moss and 27-year- old Doherty also departing to their private villa.

Hotel staff have been sworn to secrecy over a possible wedding but it is thought to be taking place on the beach this afternoon.

It is unclear whether it would have any formal basis in English law and could merely be a 'symbolic' declaration of love and commitment.

The couple, who were engaged last year, met at Kate's 31st birthday party at her home in Primrose Hill, North London, where Doherty presented her with the lyrics to his song, What Katie Did, written on an envelope and framed.

They started dating soon after. Their relationship has been dogged by scandal and drama. It remains a source of some concern for Kate's mother, Linda, and for Jefferson Hack, father of the model's daughter, Lila Grace, five.

Only weeks ago Doherty was present when actor Mark Blanco plunged to his death at a drug-fuelled party at an East London top-floor flat.

Despite Miss Moss threatening to end their relationship if Doherty did not cure his addiction, the singer was hauled before the courts to face drugs charges on three separate occasions this year.

The model, who was photographed snorting 'line after line' of cocaine in September 2005, may not be every mother's ideal role model, but has apparently become firm friends with the Duchess of York and her two daughters.

They met last month when they discussed the modelling aspirations of Princess Beatrice.

'Believe it or not, Kate and Sarah get on really well and they share a wicked sense of humour,' said a source close to the model.

But one thing in particular that has been bringing them closer together is Beatrice who absolutely idolises Kate and would therefore love to do some more modelling.

'Bea has already been on the cover of one high profile glossy magazine, proving that she has got what it takes, and now, under Kate's mentoring and guidance, she hopes to secure more equally high-profile jobs.'

While the Duchess and her children are staying in a £1,600 a night suite, Miss Moss and friends are using a privately staffed five-bedroom villa.

It costs £4,500 per night, and has five full-time members of staff - including a butler, chef and housekeeper.
