Anyone have any experience with T-Shirt designs?

Featured Replies

I came up with this idea for a T-Shirt a while ago last year in the middle of the night when I couldn't fall asleep. As far as I know, the idea is very original. I looked up the term I came up with online, and could not find anything about it.

I don't want to give my idea away, but does anyone have any experience with designing T-shirts? Part of me wants to do it, but another part of it almost goes against my values, as it has mild sexual content in it--along the lines of PG-13 at the most. I'd say it's more so something that'd be marketed to college aged students. This is somewhat beside the point though.

From what I have been told, companies usually just want to develop a partnership with a designer, as it is more economical--rather than just buying one design from one person. I am not a designer though, and just consider this to be one idea from one person with some creative ideas. It also doesn't help that my photoshop skills are average at best--and I'd probably need to do a bit of drawing, too. I'd like to at least seriously consider and pursue the possibility of making this happen though sometime this year. Not really looking to make a huge profit from it--but rather just apply myself and challenge myself.

If we had someone with experience I think they would have put their hand up a while ago to help out with the coldplaying.com shirt....

Good point. I see your point : ) I'm not a regular on here though. My mother actually HAD a sweatshirt made out of a logo I made though--for a Coldplay contest (was not actual Coldplay content though). Pretty thoughtful on her part.

I still am interested in trying to make this shirt for the novelty aspect of it--it's not really that explicit of content. I just don't like the idea of selling an idea to a company and having them going around and selling the shirts for $10-$20 a piece--that and exploiting cheap labor.

Check out http://www.cafepress.com . You can open an online shop and sell t-shirts through it. THey do the manufacturing, so you don't need to worry about exploiting cheap labour...cudos for thinking about that.:)

yeah i was gonna say cafepress too. i think they use american apparel which is a sweatshop free brand :)
