Well... That Was Random aka "Look Ma, I'm on TV!!"

Featured Replies

One of the weirdest most random things ever...

I love live music, but for various reasons don’t see that many shows. Which only makes this even more random.

I have had the worst luck trying to see hometown heroes In-Flight Safety. I love this band but they always have their concerts right before a big test or something like that so I hadn‘t been able to actually see them live yet (though their cd is great). They were playing an all ages show at The Pavilion this weekend, so even though I was probably going to be one of the oldest people there I went anyway, and when everyone had to bail on me I even dragged my (awesome for coming) brother along because I was NOT GOING TO MISS THIS SHOW.

Well the show was great, and yes the average age there did make me feel really old, and wow that place is really, really small (in a good way). So I had an awesome time, anyway.

But there was this one really weird moment. There was a commotion behind us in the middle of a song, some people went to investigate, and when I turned around to see what the fuss was about there was Ben Mulroney standing right there at the back of the crowd. :o

Ben Mulroney is the host of both Canadian Idol and Etalk (think Canadian Access Hollywood). Imagine if you were to go to a little club in a not so big city to see a very slightly well known band play, and you turned around to see Ryan Seacrest with a camera crew. You would have the idea. :dizzy:

I didn’t know what the deal was, but I figured it had something to do with In-Flight having just gotten a Juno nomination. So the crew stayed for a couple of songs, filmed a few clips (you could tell when they were filming because suddenly there would be a blinding TV light on the back of your head) and then left.

I recorded Etalk today to see if the clip had made it on the air, and sure enough, there was the back of my head, swaying back and forth to the music for about 5 or 10 seconds on national TV. *cue Twilight Zone music*

Turns out it was because the Canadian Idol auditions were in Halifax this weekend, and they were doing a segment on the local music scene. …but still… :freak:

So yeah, anyway, for the sake of a thread, anyone else have something that random happen before?

update: I forgot, it's even online now: http://etalk.ctvdigital.com/etalk/ go to the clip labeled "Idol Tips" the segment I'm in starts at the 1:30 mark, and you can see me right at 1:50. I'm the one in the lower left-hand corner with the really long hair and the brown jacket.

Good ol' Ben. Personally, I think he's a bit of a Tw...well, you get the idea:lol: . But that's still really cool...and definitely random.:)

The closest I get is that I'm in the Toronto cp footage, but that's not really random since I was in the front row, and we knew they'd be filming.

If tw... is what I'm thinking it is, I would totally agree with you. Pumpkin might be most accurate, though. That man wears a nauseating amount of self tanner.

It's on the show they aired on tv from March 23rd. I think it's early in Square 1.

Adding Random To Random...

ok. So Erin posted this theead yesterday, and this morning on CBC radio, they did an interviw with...you'll never guess...In FLight Safety (Damn! They ARE good, btw!:D ). Sheilla Rogers, the host of the show even mentioned that they don't sound like Coldplay,lol...totally random.

Erin and Briggs, if you want to hear the interview, it was on Sounds Like Canada on Radio 1 at 11:00am today. You can probably hear it again at CBC's website.

Oh nice, thanks for the heads up! ;)

Yeah, I had the same problem- I ended up dragging my brother along when my friend couldn't come. Wish I had known, I could have told you to tag along with us. Oh well. I'm sure they'll play here again before too long.

Oh nice, thanks for the heads up! ;)

No problem. I really enjoyed the 2 songs they played...The Coast Is Clear and Fear. I thought they sounded like the Doves, so I was really happy when John said they were influenced by them. I'm definitely a fan, and I'll see if I can get their album here.:D

I have the album- it's not hard to find in Canada, at least. Love it. :nice:

"Surround" and "Silent Treatment" are my favorite songs of theirs... and "Lost" is a great one to fall asleep to. I keep hearing people say Coldplay, but they sound more like a really poppy version of Sigur Ros to me.

The video for Coast is Clear was just nominated for a Juno, apparently. I love it- it was filmed at Crystal Crecent Beach just outside Halifax, so it was the first time I've seen a music video that looked like somewhere familiar... weird experience.

They mentioned the Juno nnomination during the interview. THat's great! They also mentioned Sigur Ros as an influence. I guess everyone but Sheila thought they sounded like Coldplay. They don't IMO, except a bit in the vocals in Coast reminded me of how Chris sings Politik, but that hardly means they sound like them, lol.

Well when he really hits his upper falsetto range in the studio, he does sound like Chris- but most guys who can sing that high sound a bit alike. Live it sounds different, and his mid range is a lot lower and very different.

Well, CBC doesn't seem to have an archive, but they're playing the show in Vancouver no... Regina. right now! That was good timing. Yay for time zones, I guess.

Aw, that was so great! :nice: Glad to hear them getting some exposure.

www.myspace.com/howweseetheworld[/url] ...they really do reply in person!!:D :D :D

That was really nice of them. :)

Nova Scotians are just so nice. ;)

All of them that I've met have always been the best, nicest people.:)

Neat! :D

Nova Scotians are just so nice. :wink2:

Well that's what the tourism people want everyone to believe, anyway... I still meet plenty of jerks on a regular basis.

Well, there are jerks everywhere, but the 'down-easters' I've met in Kingston have by and large been great...except this one guy, lol. He thought his band was the next Irish Rovers, and he slagged off everyone who didn't agree, but they fired him, and now they work constantly!:laugh3: :laugh3:

That reply from IFS came about 10 minutes after I made the friend request...nice touch, boys!:)

Yeah I remember they sent me a personal message after I added them.
