Sold parrot returns - as a crisp

Can you spot the difference?

A man sold his parrot after growing fed up with her foul mouth, only for her to return a few days later - in a bag of cheese and onion crisps.

Thomas Sleigh and his wife Michaela, of Stockport, Greater Manchester, decided to get rid of Molly when her swearing got too much for the family.

But within days of the naughty African Grey being sold her image turned up as Mr Sleigh tucked into a bag of crisps.

"It's almost like Molly has come back to haunt us," he said.

He added: "We got rid of her because she was constantly trying to wind my wife up by throwing her food out of the cage as well as turning the air blue with her constant swearing.

"We made a decision we couldn't take her mouth any more and we sold her."

A few days later, Mr Sleigh opened a bag of Walkers and found the four-inch crisp in the shape of a bird.

There is no photograph of Molly to compare the likeness, but Mr Sleigh thinks the crisp looks like the departed parrot.

"I have nicknamed it Chippy," he said.

"I must admit I was shocked when I saw the crisp and I was just laughing because it was like the parrot had come to re-visit us."

A spokesman for Walkers Foods said: "We've had all sorts of shapes and sizes of crisps over the years but a parrot is a world-first."

African Grey parrots, like other parrot species, are popular pets because of their intelligence and ability to mimic sounds and speech.

They originate predominately from central Africa and have an average size of about 33cm (13ins) and lifespan of up to 60 years.

Bacon Twistos (Frito Lay)

122.jpg

I don’t recall there ever being a bacon flavoured ringo? There’s something that surely must be recognised as one of the biggest mistakes in recent crispery. I can’t think of anything better. Cheese & onion ringos were a truly superb crisp. So when I noticed the lurid pink bag of bacon twistos with circular maize snacks on there I had to indulge myself. Especially as they appear to be dancing in some sort of crap crisp disco (‘crispo’) with some luminous cartoon bacon.

The pungent smell of pig fat that eminated from the bag was a reassuring. Thicker yet lighter than the ringo, these maize based snacks immediately impressed. I put one on my tongue and it pretty much just melted, leaving a taste of salt and my mouth coated with yellow maize.

The texture is like a crisper, more together monster munch. The flavour is undeniably that of the pig and it’s not too strong. In fact, I think they have it right this time. Often bacon crisps are far too salty and they whack on too much flavour to compensate. Like when girls paint themselves orange cos they think they look attractive. It’s all wrong whichever way you look at it.

If you long for bacon circular snacks, these are truly excellent. They have a slight Bobby’s/ Red Mill crapness to them but that only adds to their ample charms. It’s bizarre that you can struggle to get a decent bacon sandwich here but they do have a great bacon crisp. I have no idea how much is in the bag cos they never put the grams on the lighter maize snacks. Even the big bags weigh less than feathers, however big they are.

premium_crown.gif Vanilla Ice Cream - Vanilla Coke - VANILLA CRISPS???

by blazin_gem - written on 06.09.03 - Rating: stars3.gif (3 of 5 possible stars)

Advantages none

Disadvantages lots

Recently whilst shopping with my family in Asda I was shocked to discover that Walkers had created a new flavour of Monster Munch........ VANILLA ICE CREAM FLAVOUR!

My mum asked whether I wanted her to buy them so I could write an opinion for Ciao.... stupidly I said yes.

Incase you have never heard of them before Monster Munch is a baked corn snack (packet of crisps) aimed mostly at kids. Over the years Monster Munch has experimented with strange but unique flavours such as Baked Beans and Spaghetti Bolognese. I enjoyed these flavours and bought them regularly. Sadly, I don't think I will be purchasing the Vanilla Ice Cream ones again.

The thing that attracted me to the crisps was the strange flavour. I know it sounds weird but I HAD to try the crisps for myself to see if they were nice. I was told about all of the bad reviews on Ciao but still decided that it was my final judgement that counted.... maybe I could be the first person to give it a good rating.

The package on the crisps is similar to that of other Monster Munch flavours. The Monster Munch logo is on the front, being held by an Ice Cream monster called Fabrizio (if for some strange reason you want to find out more about him you can see his fact file on the back of the pack), the Walkers logo is also present in the corner. The colour scheme is mixtures of different shades of yellow - I suppose this is to represent Vanilla.

Before I opened the pack my brother James told me that they were disgusting. This put me off a bit as usually my brothers will happily consume anything and everything!

When I actually opened the pack I was overcome with the strong, sweet scent of Vanilla Ice Cream, I think the sickly smell would be able to put someone off before they have even eaten a single crisp.

After plucking up my courage I popped the first crisp into my mouth, the taste was sweet but I actually quite enjoyed it. After eating a cou ple more crisps the taste became more sickly and I couldnt enjoy the crisps anymore.

The crisps were bought as part of a multipack. In the multipack you got 6 packets of Beef flavour Monster Munch and 6 packets of Vanilla Ice Cream flavour Monster Munch. I am unsure of the specific price of the product but I know it was around £1.69. As with all products the price varies depending on the store. If you would like to buy a single packet of the crisps the price range would be somewhere between 27p and 36p (depending again on the store).

There is only a short list of ingredients in the Vanilla Ice Cream Monster Munch. These are: maize; vegetable oil; vanilla ice cream flavour (flavourings, palm oil, lactose); sugar and salt. It is also mentioned that the crisps are suitable for vegetarians.

The nutritional information on the oack states that for every 25g pack there is 131 Calories and 7.5g Fat.

Overall I don't think the crisps are any good at all. This is only my opinion so I would recommend that you should try them for yourselves. On the plus side little kids or people with very sweet tooths may find them irresistable. This is the only Monster Munch flavour that I have had any complaints with so I hope you haven't been put off eating any of the other flavours!

I think its great that Walkers have a brand of crisps that experiment with extreme flavours but I think it would be better if they stuck to less sickly and sweet flavours.

Thanks for reading my op!!!

Love Gemma xxx
