October 22, 200718 yr Harry Potter fan, 3, freed by firefighters from traffic cone 'wizard hat' Last updated at 12:48pm on 22nd October 2007 A three-year-old Harry Potter fan had to be cut free by firefighters after putting a traffic cone on his head as a wizard's hat - and it got STUCK. Charlie Thomas, who turned three on Saturday, was playing with his new kite on Sunday when he spotted the cone in a playing field in Cullompton, Devon and put it on. He dashed over to show his parents but it wouldn't budge when they tried to take it off - so they were forced to dial 999. Worried Charlie had to wait 45 minutes until a crew arrived and removed the cone with small levers, cutting tools and pliers. Scroll down for more... Harry potty: The three-year-old wanted to be a wizard Charlie was with his sisters Emily, eight; and Isabella, four; mum Louisa and dad Martin, 36; as well as his grandparents, when the incident occured. He picked up the cone at the side of the field and plonked it on his head and turned to show his parents but when he couldn't get it off he shouted: "It's stuck." Louisa, 34, explained: "He loves Harry Potter and when he put the cone on he was so pleased with himself, it was very sweet. Scroll down for more... Cone drama: Firefighters carefully cut the cone off Charlie's head "We tried to pull it off, tried laying him down and wiggling him free but that didn't work. We tried soapy water but that didn't do the trick so we had to call the fire brigade to cut it. "We shouldn't have laughed but we had a chuckle - he looked so comical even though he was a bit upset." Bank worker Louisa said Charlie was left with a sore red mark and bruising where the cone was stuck to his head. She explained: "He was very good while the firemen were there and he didn't panic. They got him out by pouring water down the top of the cone and cutting the rim. "He looks quite sorry for himself in the photo and he's not going to thank me when he sees that in the future." A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Upon arrival, fire crews confirmed there was one three-year-old boy with a traffic cone stuck on his head. "The fire crew released the child using small tools. An ambulance was not required at this incident but fire crews advised the mother to have the child checked over by a doctor."
