THE Fratellis have spoken for the first time about a technical hitch that threw production of their second album into disarray.

The rockers’ second opus Here We Stand was due to hit shops last week but has been delayed until June after their mixer bailed out.

Frontman Jon Fratelli explained: “The guy cried off the day before he was due to start. I was devastated. You just want to give up.

“He hadn’t finished the Coldplay album but, as much as I like them, I thought that was a rubbish reason.”

But the glitch did have a perk as Jon got stuck into writing more tunes and one is now on the record.

He said: “I wrote Straggler’s Moon a week before the new guy who mixed the record came in.”

I can also reveal Mistress Mabel will be the first single from the album.

The Glasgow three-piece are back on the road and headline 64-year-old Who legend Roger Daltrey’s Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) show at London’s Royal Albert Hall tonight. Jon added: “I’m desperate to play new songs. We wrung the life out of the last album.

“At some points it was frustrating. We wanted to give more and felt we were short-changing people but sometimes it didn’t seem to matter to them we only had one album.”

Doing a TCT stint is an impressive way for the lads, who made a name for themselves with the mega-selling debut album Costello Music, to return.

Mansion

Jon, 29, said: “I bought the David Gilmour DVD Live At The Albert Hall and thought I’d love to play there.

“Soon after we got the call. We let Baz our bassist talk to Roger Daltrey as he’s a big Who fan. Now he’s got Roger’s home phone number.

“Roger seems a good guy just by the fact he does this event every year.

“He is not just sitting in his mansion. It’s admirable.” That it is fella.
