3 bands on the tour lineup is

Featured Replies

Just another shitty excuse for Coldplaying only doing 90minutes 18song sets now.

OHHH we had 3 bands on the bill and a curfew.

lame

over $100 a seat, PLAY LONGER LIKE A NORMAL HEADLINER

The "official tour" has not started yet!!!!

Wait til Los Angeles july 14th

Cheers

that is why i said to myself the $50 seats are fine for this tour. for what will most likely be 90 minutes, $100 plus fees is just too much.

2 things:

1. We don't have A CLUE how long the sets will be on the new tour. All the critisism over the length of sets on the TL tour was a bit unfounded considering they only had three albums of material to draw from. At least wait until you actually have evidence of the length of the new sets from this tour before slagging them off.

2. an 18 song set is well within the range of what I'd condsider "normal" for a headlining set. Yes some people play longer, but a lot of "big name" headliners play for around the same amount of time/songs (or less)

I hardly think a three band bill is a ploy to make the set shorter, it is probably just an attempt by the band to give exposure to young unknown bands and add a little something extra to their shows

Here's some perspective for you:

When I saw Bob Dylan last year, his setlist was around 20 songs and under 2 hours. And he's got a considerably larger catalog to select from.

Well don't go then.

Don't buy tickets or if you have them already sell them on. No-one is making you go.

Posting the same thing all over the messageboard isn't going to change anything.

Surely its about quality and not quantity?

Just some random research on most recent tours. Setlists looked something like this, and none of them were free pre-tour shows as far as I could see.

17 Muse

17 Take That

21 Madonna

22 Green Day

23 Bon Jovi

24 Radiohead

25 Bruce Springsteen

26 Kylie

27 Neil Diamond

So with that list, if I was going to get hung up, I'd be more annoyed with Madonna as her tickets are more than double the Coldplay ones in the UK.

Her tickets are disgustingly priced. She thinks far too highly of herself.

But yeah, I'd rather have an energetic show where they give it their all than a show where they start to burn out half way through.

Oasis routinely plays 15-16 song sets, and they still manage to sell out stadiums...

What most people who complain about the length of Coldplay's sets seem to always ignore is that virtually all the band's the compare them to have far more extensive back catalogs to draw a show from. On the Josua tree tour for example, u2 (a band now known for long sets and setlist mix-ups) played a 17-18 song set that rarely changed (and when it did it rotated between 2 or 3 pre determined setlists).

I think some people are put off not so much by the length of the sets per se, but rather the price per ticket. if $98+fees is too much for you to feel the show's worth it, it's probably going to be a disappointing show no matter what. If you fall into that catagory, you'll probably be happier staying home (and I don't mean that in a sarcastic or negative way)

EDIT: Did Kylie really play a 26 song set? I'd absolutely love to see her live but she never tours the states...

Just to play devil's advocate...I saw Crowded House back to back nights at the Fillmore in San Francisco recently- they played for 2 hours 20 minutes the first night and 2 hours 10 minutes the second...between the two shows probably 5-6 songs were played both nights...tickets were $55 each including service charge.

I know the Coldplay show is going to be amazing but I also know that I'm going to walk away thinking "Why didn't they play...."
