is Auf Wiedersehen right?

It's right, but I never use this expression. It's just too formal. You could say Tschüss (Tschuess), which means bye, or Bis bald, which means see you (soon).

Guten Morgen.

Guten Abend => it's already evening here. ;) How are you, Bryce?

  • Author

Ich bin sehr gut.

My knowledge of german is very limited.

Ich bin sehr gut.
:laugh4: You made my day!

Well, I'm always impressed by people who are able to speak at least one sentence in German, because I KNOW if I wasn't a native speaker, I would never ever in my entire life learn German, it's way too difficult. And like you said, you're very good. ;) (You better say 'Mir geht es gut' instead of 'Ich bin gut' because, 'Ich bin gut' means I'm good in something.)

How was your day?

Whats the word for was?
In which language? Sorry, I'm a bit confused, because for me it's a German and an English word. Do you mean the past tense of to be? *excuses her stupidity*
  • Author

Past tense of is. Anyway, I found an old german verbal test that I had to do last year.

Im going to see if any of it makes sense.

Ich bin vierzehn Jahre alt. Mein Geburtstag ist in April. Ich wohnt in Australia. Meine Haus ist in bucshland. Ich habe groß Familie. Ich habe drei Geswister. Meinen Bruder heißt Lochie und meine Swestern heißt Zoe und Emilee. Meine Eltern heißen Michelle und Daniel.

Oh, sorry, then I misunderstood you - or just have been stupid.

Wow, a lot of information! It makes sense, don't worry, and it is way better then my English was when I was fourteen. I'm totally impressed! :)

So, you learned German at school?

  • Author

We were made to do a whole year of it last year in school. I picked up a far few things but now because Im not constantly learning it, its hard to remember.

Oh, I really can understand it. But I find it very interesting that you had to do a whole year of a foreign language. And just a single year. Was this a kind of a project or something?

Do/Did you learn other languages at school too? (Sorry, if I might be too curious ;))

  • Author

No we dont learn any other languages at my school because they dont have the teachers that can teach it. Other schools in australia do learn other languages though. We only did one year of german because our government tells us that we must learn 100 hours of another language to pass that year. I couldv'e done it this year but not enough people in my year were willing so they didn't make a class

Oh, that's sad. The same will happen to me with Latin. Next year will be the last one for me, though I would be able to do two more years of Latin, but all my other class mates hate Latin, so I'd be the only one, so there will be no class.

But you did obviously well at German!

We did once something about Australia in my English classes, so I don't really know a lot about it. We did listen to a CD in which we traveled all over Australia. But the women who was the 'guide' had such a funny pronounciation (not Australian accent, more a mixture of British and German, pretty weird) that we all dind't pay much attention to the contens.

How was your week by the way?

  • Author

I cant answer that one in german so I just do plain old english. My week was pretty good. We had an out of uniform day to raise money for bushfires in victoria and my classes were good also. I love maths. Im trying to get them to allow me to do a couple years ahead in maths so I get it done earlier. Others than that nothing much.

You love maths? :stunned: I've heard from those out of uniform days - my school finally thaught me anything. :D

You're so lucky, you'll see the guys within a month! *wishes she'd be in Australia in March*
