hello teacher

hei oppetaja :D

Just wee warning: these are mostly my own findings, so I might be wrong. Very wrong.

kiitos.... so how would i say: i am spanish, i speak spanish, english, french and portuguese?

minä olen ...

minä puhun ...

You'd say

Minä olen espanjalainen.

Puhun espanjaa, englantia, ranskaa ja portugalia.(Because the verbs are conjugated and each person has their own form of the same verb you can only say the verb without the pronoun.)

The languages themselves are called espanja, englanti, ranska and portugali. Why are they written differently when you write "I speak..."? It's because they're declined. That's marked by the -a suffix, which seems (!) to be a regular way of forming cases (not sure which one this actually is). The only exception that's obvious to me is suomi, which isn't suomia as we'd suppose, but suomea. :)

(there are regular and irregular verbs there, right? ) (those seems regular to me... remember me to french and i don't know why).
Yeah, there are regular and irregular verbs, olla is irregular (I guess it is shown in 3rd person forms), the others I posted were regular, I think.

why do you add the ä in some as and not in others?
I think that's called the euphony principle. There are some phonemes that require a certain phoneme next to them. Just like in French: you say mon amie even though it's a girl friend you're speaking about. Ma amie doesn't sound right, does it? In Finnish, these phonemes are a and ä, but I forgot how exactly it goes. Will have to check. :)

why there are 3 ways to say hello: hei, terve, moi?
No idea. Perhaps it's like in any other language; to mark the register, the relationship between the speakers, time of the day, status...

and once more how do i say:

today is

tomorrow will be

yesterday was

(to practice weekdays)

Again, no idea. Will check in the evening.

(sorry for asking a lot :embarassed: )
S'alright, that means you're interested in learning a language! :nice:

I'd love to play guitar but I don't have time (or a guitar) to learn it. Played violin for a year, and I still know how to play blockflute.

we learned it in music class.

its pretty fun

r u writing all that down, ari?

i should, is very complex to me that, well some things are easy to get but others not.... you know is not the same as to learn italian which both languages (spanish and italian) have the same origin (latin). :\ i still have some space on my summer notebook, or may i'll buy one tomorrow and note it down... for my "future" job learn a bit of other languages does no harm, just the opposite may open me more chances ;) (i should be studying translation or some philology :shame: hope i will do it soon  )
