Blur's headlining show at last year's Glastonbury Festival has been named the best performance at the music event in the past 40 years, as voted for by BBC 6 Music radio listeners.

 

Blur's headlining slot at Glastonbury last year has been voted the best performance at the festival in 40 years. BBC 6 Music radio presenter Lauren Laverne revealed the British indie group - which consists of Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree - took first place for their 2009 reunion show.

 

The poll - which was voted for by listeners of the British radio station - felt the group's performance was better than Coldplay's 2000 set and Pulp's 1995 show.

 

Radiohead came second and third for their 1997 and 2003 slots respectively. Despite coming second, Blur have claimed in the past that they could not hear themselves while on stage due to a monitor problem. Other artists to make it into the top 20 acts of the last 40 years included David Bowie, REM and Morrissey.

 

Glastonbury 2010 takes place this weekend and Blur's lead singer Damon will again be performing but as part of his virtual band Gorillaz.

Radiohead have been voted the greatest Glastonbury headliner of all time. The rockers - famous for songs such as High And Dry, Paranoid Android and Karma Police - beat competition from some of the biggest names in music, including Sir Paul McCartney's famous set in 2004, Jay-Z's controversial turn in 2008 and Blur's triumphant reunion last year.

 

The band's Saturday night headline performance in 1997 coincided with the release of their third album, OK Computer, which has sold around 4.5 million copies to date and is regularly voted one of the greatest albums of all time.

 

The survey, conducted by music video website http://www.muzu.tv, put Sir Paul in second place. Blur's 2009 headline act came in at third followed by Jay-Z in fourth and David Bowie in fifth for his 2000 show. Sixth place went to Pulp's 1995 show, the White Stripes in 2005 were seventh, with Bruce Springsteen's 2009 headliner eighth, Coldplay in 2002 ninth, and REM's 1999 show ranked 10th.

 

Graeme Slattery, of Muzu, said: "Glastonbury is famous for its legendary headliners and Radiohead's 1997 performance secured their place in festival history. "With a typically eclectic mix of acts confirmed for this year's festival, ranging from Snoop Dogg to Stevie Wonder, festival fans are in for a treat."

I'm shocked Muse isn't in the top 10 let alone the top 20. Their 2004 Glasto gig was phenomenal.

For me, Coldplay in 2005 was the best ever, especially with all that torrential rainfall and the tents floating off etc.;)

Nothing has come close since, although Stevie Wonder was admittedly fantastic this time around.

I liked both 2002 and 2005.. i am looking oraward the next time though
