They say politics makes strange bedfellows - but it's nothing compared to the world of literary PR .

Tony Blair is conducting a whistle-stop tour of the country's radio and TV stations to promote his book, A Journey, and he doesn't seem to care with whom he shares the limelight.

The former PM's tour reached a breathtaking low on Friday when he appeared on Irish television alongside reality TV duo 'Jedwood'.

He was a guest on the Late, Late Show with Ryan Tubridy, and later posed for photos with the duo - real names John and Edward Grimes - grinning enthusiastically between their impossible hair and made-up.

Mr Blair was ridiculed in the press for the appearance, and his visit to Dublin for a book-signing session was accompanied by clashes between anti-war protesters and police.

Tomorrow he conducts his first live UK TV interview since the publication of the memoirs, and it will be with another dynamic duo.

Mr Blair will position himself on the sofa with Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley - as the star guest on ITV's new morning show Daybreak.

The Blair interview - hardly likely the worst grilling of his career - is a feather in the cap of the new ITV show, which will also have Prince Charles on its sofa this coming Friday.

Daybreak replaces GMTV, which ended last Friday after 17 years, and secured the services of both Chiles and Bleakley after they were poached from the BBC's One Show.

Bleakley has said she is not relishing the 3am starts for new job but hopes that her co-host 'jolly demeanour' will see her cope.

She said: 'Ignorance is bliss at this stage and a lot of people have said I should do a couple of week's trial in the period leading up to it but I thought why spoil two more weeks of your life.

'I'm sleeping as much as I can but not sure if I relish 3am wake up calls. I am sure Adrian's jolly demeanour will make it all the more enjoyable.'

Chiles meanwhile has hit back at the BBC after claims he only left because of the money.

He said: 'They are trying to portray it as a classic big money move to ITV, which couldn't be further from the truth.'

The new show will not be a complete departure from its predecessor, GMTV, with some familiar faces including Kate Garraway, John Stapleton and Dr Hilary Jones. Presenter Lucy Verasamy joins from Sky.

Daybreak will be followed by Lorraine Kelly presenting her own show from 8.30am to 9.25am.
