Coldplay to perform at festival for Prince Haakon's birthday?

Featured Replies

I'm not sure of this is true but I found three articles that mention that Coldplay will perform at a Norwegian festival called Skaugum (19/20 July) and that it's to celebrate Prince Haakon 40th birthday. I had to use Google Translate since I don't speak Norwegian, here are the links:

Is there anybody from Norway who has more information about this?

Cool, if it is true.

But I have otherwise the impression that Prince Haakon and his wife like(d) House music. But maybe it is true. He will be 40 this year. But I would like to see it before I fully believe it.

^Yeah that's sort of weird. I don't mean that I'm against it or anything, (honestly we're all craving for new performances) it just doesn't feel like something Coldplay would actually do.

Now I am back after reading the first article that is from the Norwegian tabloid paper Se og Hør Week-end (a paper full of gossip).

A special stage will be built in the garden of Skaugum (the residence of the Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who are both turning 40 years old this summer - Haakon next week-end). A number of Norwegian artists will also perform.

From the article:

Mette-Marit has invited >300 private guests to the hippie festival at Skaugum on 19 and 20 July 2013, and the guests are recommended to be dressed for a festival.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit is a good friend of Gwyneth Paltrow's who is married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

The popular band has sold incredible 60 million albums world-wide. To book/hire such a popular band one summer night might cost several million Norwegian kroner.

It is possible that Chris Martin will do it for free.

PALACE REJECTING COLDPLAY RUMOURS

Palace rejects rumour that Coldplay are to play at the party

Says that Se og Hør's claim that Coldplay are to play at the private party of Haakon & Mette-Marit is not correct.

- It is not correct that Coldplay are to play at Skaugum (the residence of Haakon & Mette-Marit), so the palace's head of communication Marianne Hagen says to VG.

So far VG has not succeeded in getting any comment from Se og Hør.

The festival takes place next week-end and is to take place in the garden of Skaugum. 300 guests have been invited. And according to Se og Hør's websites several young royals from the other Scandinavian countries will attend the festival. The event will be strictly guarded by police and security guards.

Good friends

Mette-Marit and Haakon are friends of Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and his wife Gwyneth Paltrow. This has been confirmed by Gwyneth in a VG interview.

- Yeah, we are so lucky to be able to count Haakon and Mette among our good friends, Paltrow said during the film festival in Venice in 2011.

Haakon and Mette-Marit are said to have made the acquaintance of the superstars around 2002 when they lived in London. If the friendship implicates that the band will play free of charge or at a very reduced fee is not known.

Investigating the matter

There was no information of the event on Coldplay's own website (referring to coldplay.com). «No dates currently scheduled", it says on the band's own overview/list of future concerts.

Nor is there any information of this concert on the band's Twitter or Facebook pages.

The band's Norwegian record label Parlophone has no information of a concert at Skaugum, but says to VG that they will investigate the matter.

The police will neither confirm nor reject any rumour that Coldplay will play at Haakon's and Mette-Marit's summer party at Skaugum next week-end.

- We will not comment on the event more than we have already done, says a representative of the police, Astrid Birgitte Borge to VG.

VG is known for news in relation to entertainment.

Gwyneth met Chris in the summer/autumn aka. fall of 2002. So I am sceptical about the part of "when they lived in London". The Norwegian crown prince might have been studying in London in 2002. I doubt that Mette-Marit lived there then. Gwyneth did not move to London before marrying Chris in December 2003 (on 5.12.03) as far as I know, but maybe I am wrong.

I knew it seemed to good to be true. Thanks for the translation Nancy : )

Thank you for translating the articles Nancy!

You're welcome. I will also take a look at the third article and see if there's any news compared to the other 2 articles.

The 3rd article (bt.no/nyheter/indenriks) refers to the 2 above articles (first one with the rumour from Se & Hør - second one in which the Palace rejects the rumour) - so no news there.

If you want to see the pictures, then use the links. Or maybe Tash will post them?

That is alright. We all know that usually you are here, there and everywhere. Even you need a lazy day from time to time, so hereby granted.

Rumors! Se og Hør (which is a magazine basically writing about entertainment) said earlier today that they had gotten many tips about Coldplay playing at Prince Haakon's birthday. They chose to write about it because they ment that had enough sources.

Well, well..
