Charlie17
I originally posted something about the B side "animals" which i personally always liked. But for whatever reason, thought i'd put the acoustic guitar with square one because i had a feeling it'd sound good. And as elecronic as the song sounds, I would bet the wrote it on guitar, mostly because each chord fits perfectly in the signature style of leaving the bottom strings open and tuned to fit the key of the song. Square One in particular makes me wonder why X&Y gets trashed as an album so often, especially in comparison with it's critically acclaimed descendant, VLVODAAHF (that's a ridiculous acronym, maybe I'm supposed to leave out some of those letters). X&Y was probably a little over cooked and almost too perfect and perhaps inhuman that way, but it's got some great stuff on it. Behind politik, square one is an HELL of a track to start an album (they have a knack for that don't they). If you tune your guitar to E-A-D-G-C-D# and let the high e and b string ring though out, it's not too tough to pick up. I just wish I thought of this one first. hah. yeah right. I was lucky enough to have recently bought a Martin and realized the ceo's name is Chris Martin. Go figure. Here is my re-EQ'd version of the album track with my guitar in it (hopefully not subtracting) plus a link for a tutorial. I can barely read tab much less write it. Last thing, I wouldn't leave a nice guitar in these weird tunings for too long, unless you don't mind a bowed neck. https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/square2 https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/square-one-tutorial
Charlie17
I ended up getting pretty into it and gave square one the album track a fairly different feel with some equalization, guitar and a few other little things. Let me know if you like it or if I butchered it. :) Less is more usually, but i went with more here. https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/square2
coldplaykb
That sounds great! Any chance you could post the chords? :)
Charlie17
Absolutely. Is it possible to attach a photo in the forum, do you know? My tab transcription skills are non existent so I can post the chord diagrams or even pics of my hands in the various positions. I'm going to post a soundcloud link that walks you through it. Let me know if it works for you. The F7 chord (an F barre chord with the bottom to open) is used a bit so if i left out a few instances where something is missing, id give it a try. like when he sings, it doesn't matter who you are, when he sings the word are, thats a switch to F7. Don't forget to tune your guitar E-A-D-G-C-Eb. Otherwise, who knows what it'd sound like haha. Take care https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/square-one-tutorial
